2025-02-24regulator: Add (devm_)of_regulator_get()Sebastian Reichel
The Rockchip power-domain controller also plans to make use of per-domain regulators similar to the MediaTek power-domain controller. Since existing DTs are missing the regulator information, the kernel should fallback to the automatically created dummy regulator if necessary. Thus the version without the _optional suffix is needed. The Rockchip driver plans to use the managed version, but to be consistent with existing code the unmanaged version is added at the same time. 2025-01-06regulator: of: Implement the unwind path of of_regulator_match()Joe Hattori
of_regulator_match() does not release the OF node reference in the error path, resulting in an OF node leak. Therefore, call of_node_put() on the obtained nodes before returning the EINVAL error. Since it is possible that some drivers call this function and do not exit on failure, such as s2mps11_pmic_driver, clear the init_data and of_node in the error path. This was reported by an experimental verification tool that I am developing. As I do not have access to actual devices nor the QEMU board configuration to test drivers that call this function, no runtime test was able to be performed. 2024-12-19regulator: rename regulator-uv-survival-time-ms according to DT bindingAhmad Fatoum
The regulator bindings don't document regulator-uv-survival-time-ms, but the more descriptive regulator-uv-less-critical-window-ms instead. Looking back at v3[1] and v4[2] of the series adding the support, the property was indeed renamed between these patch series, but unfortunately the rename only made it into the DT bindings with the driver code still using the old name. Let's therefore rename the property in the driver code to follow suit. 2024-09-30regulator: Add devres version of of_regulator_get_optional()Chen-Yu Tsai
There are existing uses for a devres version of of_regulator_get_optional() in power domain drivers. On MediaTek platforms, power domains may have regulator supplies tied to them. The driver currently tries to use devm_regulator_get() to not have to manage the lifecycle, but ends up doing it in a very hacky way by replacing the device node of the power domain controller device to the device node of the power domain that is currently being registered, getting the supply, and reverting the device node. Provide a better API so that the hack can be replaced. 2024-09-30regulator: Add of_regulator_get_optional() for pure DT regulator lookupChen-Yu Tsai
The to-be-introduced I2C component prober needs to enable regulator supplies (and toggle GPIO pins) for the various components it intends to probe. To support this, a new "pure DT lookup" method for getting regulator supplies is needed, since the device normally requesting the supply won't get created until after the component is probed to be available. Add a new of_regulator_get_optional() function for this. This mirrors the existing regulator_get_optional() function, but is OF-specific. The underlying code that supports the existing regulator_get*() functions has been reworked in previous patches to support this specific case. Also convert an existing usage of "dev && dev->of_node" to "dev_of_node(dev)". There's still a bit of OF-specific code in the regulator device lookup function. Move those bits of code over to of_regulator.c, and create a new function of_regulator_dev_lookup() to encapsulate the code moved out of regulator_dev_lookup(). Also mark of_find_regulator_by_node() as static, since there are no other users in other compile units. There are no functional changes. A line alignment was also fixed. 2024-08-22regulator: Fully clean up on error in of_regulator_bulk_get_all()Chen-Yu Tsai
Currently in of_regulator_bulk_get_all(), if any regulator request fails, the error path releases all regulators already requested, but leaves the |struct regulator_bulk_data| memory to the caller to free, and also leaves the regulator consumer pointers dangling. The latter behavior is not documented, and may not be what the caller is expecting. Instead, explicitly clean up everything on error, and make it clear that the result pointer is only update if the whole request succeeds. If regulator_get() in of_regulator_bulk_get_all() returns an error, that error gets overridden and -EINVAL is always passed out. This masks probe deferral requests and likely won't work properly in all cases. Fix this by letting of_regulator_bulk_get_all() return the original error code. In order to do the DT lookup for init data, the child that registered the regulator would pass its parent as the parameter. And this causes init data resource allocated to its parent, not itself. The issue happen when parent device is going to release and regulator core is still doing some operation of init data constraint for the regulator of child device. To fix it, this patch expand 'regulator_register' API to use the different devices for init data allocation and DT lookup. 2020-11-23regulator: core: add of_match_full_name boolean flagCristian Marussi
During regulators registration, if .of_match and .regulators_node are defined as non-null strings in struct regulator_desc the core searches the DT subtree rooted at .regulators_node trying to match, at first, .of_match against the 'regulator-compatible' property and, then, falling back to use the name of the node itself to determine a good match. Property 'regulator-compatible', though, is now deprecated and falling back to match against the node name, works fine only as long as the involved nodes are named in an unique way across the searched subtree; if that's not the case, like when using <common-name>@<unit> style naming for properties indexed via 'reg' property (as advised by the standard), the above matching mechanism based on the simple common name will lead to multiple matches and the only viable alternative would be to properly define the now deprecated 'regulator-compatible' as the node full name, i.e. <common-name>@<unit>. In order to address this case without using such deprecated binding, define a new boolean flag .of_match_full_name in struct regulator_desc to force the core to match against the node full-name instead of the plain name. Currently the regulator-suspend-min/max-microvolt must be within the root regulator node but the dt-bindings specifies it as subnode properties for the regulator-state-[mem/disk/standby] node. The only DT using this bindings currently is the at91-sama5d2_xplained.dts and this DT uses it correctly. I don't know if it isn't tested but it can't work without this fix. The local variable search in regulator_of_get_init_node takes the value returned by either of_get_child_by_name or of_node_get, both of which get a node. If this node is not put before returning, it could cause a memory leak. Hence put search before a mid-loop return statement. Issue found with Coccinelle. A more sophisticated coupling may be required in practice, one example is the NVIDIA Tegra SoCs which besides the max-spreading have other restrictions that must be adhered. 2018-11-08regulator: core: Add new max_uV_step constraintDmitry Osipenko
On NVIDIA Tegra30 there is a requirement for regulator "A" to have voltage higher than voltage of regulator "B" by N microvolts, the N value changes depending on the voltage of regulator "B". This is similar to min-spread between voltages of regulators, the difference is that the spread value isn't fixed. This means that extra carefulness is required for regulator "A" to drop its voltage without violating the requirement, hence its voltage should be changed in steps so that its couple "B" could follow (there is also max-spread requirement). Add new "max_uV_step" constraint that breaks voltage change into several steps, each step is limited by the max_uV_step value. Some regulators don't have all states defined and in such cases regulator core should not assume anything. However in current implementation of of_get_regulation_constraints() DO_NOTHING_IN_SUSPEND enable value was set only for regulators which had suspend node defined, otherwise the default 0 value was used, what means DISABLE_IN_SUSPEND. This lead to broken system suspend/resume on boards, which had simple regulator constraints definition (without suspend state nodes). To avoid further mismatches between the default and uninitialized values of the suspend enabled/disabled states, change the values of the them, so default '0' means DO_NOTHING_IN_SUSPEND. On Odroid XU3/4 and other Exynos5422 based boards there is a case, that different devices on the board are supplied by different regulators with non-fixed voltages. If one of these devices temporarily requires higher voltage, there might occur a situation that the spread between devices' voltages is so high, that there is a risk of changing 'high' and 'low' states on the interconnection between devices powered by those regulators. Add new structure "coupling_desc" to regulator_dev, which contains pointers to all coupled regulators including the owner of the structure, number of coupled regulators and counter of currently resolved regulators. Add of_functions to parse all data needed in regulator coupling. Provide method to check DTS data consistency. 2018-04-20regulator: Don't return or expect -errno from of_map_mode()Douglas Anderson
In of_get_regulation_constraints() we were taking the result of of_map_mode() (an unsigned int) and assigning it to an int. We were then checking whether this value was -EINVAL. Some implementers of of_map_mode() were returning -EINVAL (even though the return type of their function needed to be unsigned int) because they needed to signal an error back to of_get_regulation_constraints(). In general in the regulator framework the mode is always referred to as an unsigned int. While we could fix this to be a signed int (the highest value we store in there right now is 0x8), it's actually pretty clean to just define the regulator mode 0x0 (the lack of any bits set) as an invalid mode. Let's do that. In this patch, consumers are allowed to set suspend voltage, and this actually just set the "uV" in constraint::regulator_state, when the regulator_suspend_late() was called by PM core through callback when the system is entering into suspend, the regulator device would act suspend activity then. And it assumes that if any consumer set suspend voltage, the regulator device should be enabled in the suspend state. And if the suspend voltage of a regulator device for all consumers was set zero, the regulator device would be off in the suspend state. This patch also provides a new function hook to regulator devices for resuming from suspend states.
