2025-07-15wifi: ath12k: Use HTT_TCL_METADATA_VER_V1 in FTM modeAaradhana Sahu
Currently host sends HTT_TCL_METADATA_VER_V2 to the firmware regardless of the operating mode (Mission or FTM). Firmware expects additional software information (like peer ID, vdev ID, and link ID) in Tx packets when HTT_TCL_METADATA_VER_V2 is set. However, in FTM (Factory Test Mode) mode, no vdev is created on the host side (this is expected). As a result, the firmware fails to find the expected vdev during packet processing and ends up dropping packets. To fix this, send HTT_TCL_METADATA_VER_V1 in FTM mode because FTM mode doesn't support HTT_TCL_METADATA_VER_V2. 2025-07-07wifi: ath12k: properly set bit for pdev mask for firmware PPDU_STATS requestSarika Sharma
Currently, the HTT_H2T_MSG_TYPE_PPDU_STATS_CFG request uses bits 8 to 15 as the bitmask for HTT_PPDU_STATS_CFG_PDEV_ID for firmware PPDU_STATS. However, bit 8 is reserved for SOC stats, and the actual PDEV ID should be encoded using bits 9 to 15. This leads to incorrect PDEV ID encoding in the request, causing it to either ignore the request or apply it to the wrong PDEV. Additionally, pdev_mask calculation is done as pdev_mask = 1 << (i + 1); (i.e. i= num_rxmda_per_pdev) but this is not valid for multiple pdevs(multi-MAC configurations) with 1 rxdma per pdev, as this will mask the same value for all pdevs. To correctly identify each and exact MAC in multi-MAC configurations, the calculation should include ar->pdev_idx: pdev_mask = 1 << i + ar->pdev_idx; Due to these issues, the firmware does not send PPDU_STATS for the intended PDEV, leading to inaccurate and incomplete statistics on the host. This might trigger certain WARN_ON() conditions in host that rely on these statistics. Hence, change the bitmask for HTT_PPDU_STATS_CFG_PDEV_ID as bit 9 to 15 to properly fill the pdev id in request message and change the pdev_mask calculation to consider ar->pdev_idx to mask pdev correctly. 2025-05-16wifi: ath12k: Enable AST index based address search in Station ModeThiraviyam Mariyappan
Currently, TCL performs the TX address search for each entry during transmission, which may lead to packet delays. To mitigate this issue, enable AST index-based address search during transmission in station mode. This AST index-based search is not enabled in AP mode due to the complexity involved in fetching peer information. Implement changes to retrieve the offset of ast_idx/ast_hash values from the PEER_MAP3 event, update the vdev search type to ADDRX, and enable AST lookup in the bank configuration. WCN7850 uses monitor status ring to store status buffer. Status buffer contains many TLVs such as MPDU START/END. From these TLVs, can get necessary information about related payload, such as PPDU ID. Add helper function to reap status buffer from monitor status ring so that can parse TLVs later by ath12k_dp_mon_parse_rx_dest(). 2025-05-16wifi: ath12k: add ring config for monitor mode on WCN7850Kang Yang
For WCN7850, it doesn't have an RX MON component(RX MON dest ring and RX MON buffer ring). So it can only reuse the mon status ring, RX refill ring, and error dst ring for monitor mode. Every time the hardware captures a packet, it will store status information into the status ring and store the MSDU payload buffer address into the error dst ring. When host reaps the MSDU payload and consumes a buffer, it will replenish the RX refill ring to indicate a new buffer. The configuration of the error dst/RX ring already exists. But there is no configuration for mon status ring. So add ring configuration for it. 2025-05-16wifi: ath12k: parse msdu_end tlv in ath12k_dp_mon_rx_parse_status_tlv()Kang Yang
Currently, error bitmap and decap format are parsed in ath12k_dp_mon_parse_rx_dest_tlv(). Then stored into dp_rx_mon_mpdu_list. ath12k_dp_mon_parse_rx_dest_tlv() and dp_rx_mon_mpdu_list are only used by QCN9274. For WCN7850, error bitmap and decap format are also needed. So need to parse MSDU END TLV in ath12k_dp_mon_rx_parse_status_tlv(), this is the common function for WCN7850 and QCN9274. Then store error bitmap and decap format so that QCN9274 can fetch them when processing MSDU payload. 2025-04-17wifi: ath12k: Fix memory leak during extended skb allocationP Praneesh
In ath12k_dp_tx(), memory allocated for extended skb is not freed properly, causing a memory leak even when the host receives tx completion for those skbs. Fix this issue by storing skb_ext_desc in the host tx descriptor and using this skb_ext_desc field during completion or during ath12k_dp_cc_cleanup(). 2025-04-17wifi: ath12k: Refactor tx descriptor handling in tx completion handlerP Praneesh
Current code uses mac_id and msdu parameters in ath12k_dp_tx_free_txbuf() and ath12k_dp_tx_process_htt_tx_complete(). Since these parameters are already encapsulated by struct ath12k_dp_tx_desc, passing them individually results in redundant arguments. Introduce struct ath12k_tx_desc_params to capture the skb, mac_id, and pass it to the corresponding functions. Refactor these functions to use struct ath12k_tx_desc_params instead, reducing the number of arguments and improving function argument handling efficiency. Additionally, use struct ath12k_tx_desc_params in ath12k_dp_tx_htt_tx_complete_buf() and ath12k_dp_tx_complete_msdu(), which will be utilized for fetching extended skb in a future patch. 2025-04-03wifi: ath12k: Fix the enabling of REO queue lookup table featureSriram R
Instead of storing the REO queue address inside peer entries, REO hardware module prefers them to be stored in SRAM which could be directly accessed by REO using peer_ID/TID based lookup table mechanism. Fix the enabling of the REO queue lookup table(LUT) feature by configuring the LUT address information in the REO hardware register and setting the host service flags. Currently, the monitor Rx parser handler is inherited from the ath11k. However, the ath12k 802.11be hardware does not report the Rx TLV header in the MSDU data. Instead, the hardware reports those TLVs under the following TLV tags: 1. Buffer address 2. MPDU start 3. MPDU end 4. MSDU end Therefore, add support for parsing the above TLVs in the Rx monitor path and use this information for MSDU buffer and status updates. 2025-02-11wifi: ath12k: Add support for MLO Multicast handling in driverBalamurugan Mahalingam
For MLO netdevice, the broadcast frame should be transmitted with the same sequence number on all the links. Per IEEE 802.11be-2024 section 10.3.2.14.2 "Transmitter requirements", An AP MLD shall use SNS11 in Table 10-5 (Transmitter sequence number spaces) maintained by the MLD to determine the sequence number of a group addressed data frame that is transmitted by an AP affiliated with the AP MLD so that the same group addressed Data frame transmitted over multiple links by the AP MLD uses the same sequence number for transmission on each link. Currently the MLO multicast handling is done in the mac80211 layer. Enable support for handling MLO Multicast in the driver to update the hardware descriptors in a custom way to handle the multicast frames. Firmware expects the MLO multicast frames to the submitted to the hardware with special vdev_id (actual vdev_id + 128) to recognize it as a host inspected frame to avoid using the reinjected path and it also uses the multicast global sequence number (GSN) provided by the host in the HTT metadata to process and transmit it with the same sequence number. 2025-02-11wifi: ath12k: Update HTT_TCL_METADATA version and bit mask definitionsBalamurugan Mahalingam
Update the HTT_TCL_METADATA version to the latest version (2) as the bit definitions have changed a little to support more features. This new version allows the host to submit a packet with more information to the firmware. Firmware uses this additional information to do special processing for certain frames. All the firmware binaries available in upstream/public are compatible with this HTT version update. 2025-01-26wifi: ath12k: Restructure the code for monitor ring processingP Praneesh
Currently, monitor ring reaping and processing occur in the same loop, which requires holding ring locks until skb processing is complete. However, only the ring reaping part requires the ring lock; the skb processing part does not need it. This approach is problematic because it unnecessarily extends the duration for which the ring locks are held, leading to increased contention and potential backpressure issues. Fix it by holding ring locks only during the reaping phase, as skb processing does not require them. First, reap the monitor destination ring with the ring lock and queue the skbs into an skb list. Then, process the skbs in this list in a separate loop without holding the ring lock. Add source buffer ring and destination buffer ring ID for monitor rings. These IDs are used for ring configuration during initial ring setup. Since monitor rings are enabled based on the rxdma1_enable flag, enable it in the hardware param for the QCN9274 version 2 hardware and increase the destination ring size to handle MSDU data buffers. This requires changing the use of arvif to per link and not per hw which can now comprise of multiple links. Those two fields are used to store the per SPT page of tx/rx descriptors send to the firmware for cookie conversion. Right now they are in struct ath12k_spt_info which means they are duplicated PPT page times while we only need one instance of them. When a packet arrives in Rx rings, the RX descriptor moves from the used list to the free list. Then, the rxdma ring gets replenished, where the Rx descriptor again moves from the free list to the used list. At the end, the descriptor came to the used list with unnecessary list movement. The descriptor used list is maintained in the Rxdma ring structure, which creates lock contention for the list operations (add, delete) in the Rx data path. Optimize the Rx data path by removing the used list from the common Rxdma ring and maintain as a local variable in the Rx ring handler itself, which avoid lock contention. Now, to find the used list descriptor during descriptor cleanup, we need to check the in_use flag for each Rx descriptor. This is a simple UDP UL throughput test case results on x86+NUC device with QCN9274 card, which clearly shows 8% to 12% improvement in the CPU idle for the same ingress traffic. In tx completion, status desc is obtained from offsetting the address from wbm ring. Most of the RX descriptors fields are currently not used in the ath12k driver. Hence add support to selectively subscribe to the required quad words (64 bits) within msdu_end and mpdu_start of rx_desc. Add compact rx_desc structures and configure the bit mask for Rx TLVs (msdu_end, mpdu_start, mpdu_end) via registers. With these registers SW can configure to DMA the partial TLV struct to Rx buffer. Each TLV type has its own register to configure the mask value. The mask value configured in register will indicate if a particular QWORD has to be written to rx buffer or not i.e., if Nth bit is enabled in the mask Nth QWORD will be written and it will not be written if the bit is disabled in mask. While 0th bit indicates whether TLV tag will be written or not. Advantages of Qword subscription of TLVs - Avoid multiple cache-line misses as the all the required fields of the TLV are within 128 bytes. - Memory optimization as TLVs + DATA + SHINFO can fit in 2k buffer even for 64 bit kernel. 2024-02-02wifi: ath12k: remove hal_desc_sz from hw paramsRaj Kumar Bhagat
With word mask subscription support, the rx_desc structure will change. The fields in this structure rx_desc will be reduced to only the required fields. To make word mask subscription changes compatible with the older firmware version (firmware that does not support word mask subscription), two different structures of rx_desc will be required for the same hardware. The hardware param hal_desc_sz value cannot be constant for the same hardware. It depends on the size of rx_desc structure which may change based on firmware capability to support word mask subscription. Hence, remove hal_desc_sz from hardware param and add hal_rx_ops to get the size of rx_desc in run time. 2024-01-18wifi: ath12k: change MAC buffer ring size to 2048Baochen Qiang
For WCN7850, there is a SRNG named MAC buffer ring, i.e., dp->rx_mac_buf_ring. During initialization, it is setup by host and then under control of firmware. During RX process, firmware fetches buffers from dp->rx_refill_buf_ring to fill that MAC buffer ring, and those buffers are taken by RXDMA to carry real WLAN frames received from air. Currently a low RX throughput is observed. Checking firmware log, lots of errors are reported by MAC buffer ring, complaining that it is running out of buffers, which further indicates that RXDMA is suffering from starvation. Currently the size of dp->rx_mac_buf_ring is configured as 1024. After changing it to 2048, those error messages are reduced, and a 6.4% increase is seen in peak throughput. Note that 2048 is an empirical value. It is chosen here because the RX throughput meets our expectation after the change. This change only applies to WCN7850 since other chips don't have a MAC buffer ring. 2024-01-18wifi: ath12k: add support for BA1024Baochen Qiang
Currently the maximum block ACK window size supported is 256. This results in that, when connected to an AP which supports larger BA sizes like BA512 or BA1024, only BA256 is established, leading to a lower peak throughput. So add support for BA1024, this is done by allocating a larger REO queue and advertising IEEE80211_MAX_AMPDU_BUF_EHT support to MAC80211. Currently data path Rxdma ring structure store the IDR buffer and lock. These IDR handling is needed only for SW cookie conversion and not needed for HW cookie conversion. REO Rxdma ring use the HW cookie conversion and monitor Rxdma ring use the SW cookie conversion. Since idr not needed for REO Rxdma ring, remove the IDR data entity from the data path Rxdma ring structure. Introduce the new data path ring structure for monitor rxmda rings since it need IDR data entity. 2023-08-23wifi: ath12k: Fix memory leak in rx_desc and tx_descRajat Soni
Currently when ath12k_dp_cc_desc_init() is called we allocate memory to rx_descs and tx_descs. In ath12k_dp_cc_cleanup(), during descriptor cleanup rx_descs and tx_descs memory is not freed. This is cause of memory leak. These allocated memory should be freed in ath12k_dp_cc_cleanup. In ath12k_dp_cc_desc_init(), we can save base address of rx_descs and tx_descs. In ath12k_dp_cc_cleanup(), we can free rx_descs and tx_descs memory using their base address. 2022-11-29wifi: ath12k: driver for Qualcomm Wi-Fi 7 devicesKalle Valo
ath12k is a new mac80211 driver for Qualcomm Wi-Fi 7 devices, first supporting QCN9274 and WCN7850 PCI devices. QCN9274 supports both AP and station; WCN7850 supports only station mode. Monitor mode is not (yet) supported. Only PCI bus devices are supported. ath12k is forked from an earlier version of ath11k. It was simpler to have a "clean start" for the new generation and not try to share the code with ath11k. This makes maintenance easier and avoids major changes in ath11k, which would have significantly increased the risk of regressions in existing setups. ath12k uses le32 and cpu_to_le32() macros to handle endian conversions, instead of using the firmware byte swap feature utilized by ath11k. There is only one kernel module, named ath12k.ko. Currently ath12k only supports HE mode (IEEE 802.11ax) or older, but work is ongoing to add EHT mode (IEEE 802.11be) support. The size of the driver is ~41 kLOC and 45 files. To make the review easier, this initial version of ath12k does not support Device Tree, debugfs or any other extra features. Those will be added later, after ath12k is accepted to upstream. The driver is build tested by Intel's kernel test robot with both GCC and Clang. Sparse reports no warnings.
