2025-07-16drm: Pass pixel_format+modifier to .get_format_info()Ville Syrjälä
Decouple .get_format_info() from struct drm_mode_fb_cmd2 and just pass the pixel format+modifier combo in by hand. 2025-02-06drm/i915: Calculate the VT-d guard size in the display codeVille Syrjälä
Currently i915_gem_object_pin_to_display_plane() uses i915_gem_object_get_tile_row_size() to calculate the tile row size for the VT-d guard w/a. That's not really proper since i915_gem_object_get_tile_row_size() only works for fenced BOs, nor does it take rotation into account. Remedy the situation by calculating the VT-d guard size in the display code where we have more information readily available. Although the default guard size (168 PTEs now) should cover the more typical fb size use cases anyway, and only very large Y/Yf-tiled framebuffers might have tile row size that exceeds it. 2024-06-24drm/i915: Nuke the TGL+ chroma plane tile row alignment stuffVille Syrjälä
I don't think the display hardware really has such chroma plane tile row alignment requirements as outlined in commit d156135e6a54 ("drm/i915/tgl: Make sure a semiplanar UV plane is tile row size aligned") Bspec had the same exact thing to say about earlier hardware as well, but we never cared and things work just fine. The one thing mentioned in that commit that is definitely true however is the fence alignment issue. But we don't deal with that on earlier hardware either. We do have code to deal with that issue for the first color plane, but not the chroma planes. So I think if we did want to check this more extensively we should do it in the same places where we already check the first color plane (namely convert_plane_offset_to_xy() and intel_fb_bo_framebuffer_init()). 2021-10-21drm/i915: Add a platform independent way to check for CCS AUX planesImre Deak
Future platforms change the location of CCS AUX planes in CCS framebuffers, so add intel_fb_is_ccs_aux_plane() to query for these planes independently of the platform. This function can be used everywhere instead of is_ccs_plane() (or is_ccs_plane() && !cc_plane()), since all the callers are only interested in CCS AUX planes (and not CCS color-clear planes). Add the corresponding intel_fb_is_gen12_ccs_aux_plane(), which can be used everywhere instead of is_gen12_ccs_plane(), based on the above explanation. This change also unexports the is_gen12_ccs_modifier(), is_gen12_ccs_plane(), is_gen12_ccs_cc_plane() functions as they are only used in intel_fb.c v1-v2: Unchanged v3: (Ville) - Use ccs_aux instead of the ccs_ctrl term everywhere. - Use color_plane instead of plane term for FB plane indicies. v4: Fix version range check. 2021-10-21drm/i915: Add a platform independent way to get the RC CCS CC planeImre Deak

Move intel_format_info_is_yuv_semiplanar() to intel_fb.c . The number of planes for YUV semiplanar formats using CCS modifiers will change on future platforms. 2021-10-21drm/i915: Move intel_get_format_info() to intel_fb.cImre Deak
Move the function retrieving the format override information for a given format/modifier to intel_fb.c. We can store a pointer to the format list in each modifier's descriptor instead of the corresponding switch/case logic, avoiding the listing of the modifiers twice. v1: Unchanged. v2: Handle invalid modifiers in intel_fb_get_format_info() passed from userspace. 2021-10-21drm/i915: Add a table with a descriptor for all i915 modifiersImre Deak
Add a table describing all the framebuffer modifiers used by i915 at one place. This has the benefit of deduplicating the listing of supported modifiers for each platform and checking the support of these modifiers on a given plane. This also simplifies in a similar way getting some attribute for a modifier, for instance checking if the modifier is a CCS modifier type. While at it drop the cursor plane filtering from skl_plane_has_rc_ccs(), as the cursor plane is registered with DRM core elsewhere. v1: Unchanged. v2: - Keep the plane caps calculation in the plane code and pass an enum with these caps to intel_fb_get_modifiers(). (Ville) - Get the modifiers calling intel_fb_get_modifiers() in i9xx_plane.c as well. v3: - s/.id/.modifier/ (Ville) - Keep modifier_desc vs. plane_cap filter conditions consistent. (Ville) - Drop redundant cursor plane check from skl_plane_has_rc_ccs(). (Ville) - Use from, until display version fields in modifier_desc instead of a mask. (Jani) - Unexport struct intel_modifier_desc, separate its decl and init. (Jani) - Remove enum pipe, plane_id forward decls from intel_fb.h, which are not needed after v2. v4: - Reuse IS_DISPLAY_VER() instead of open-coding it. (Jani) - Preserve the current modifier order exposed to user space. (Ville) v5: Use }, { on one line to seperate the descriptor array elements. 2021-04-26drm/i915: Simplify CCS and UV plane alignment handlingImre Deak
We can handle the surface alignment of CCS and UV color planes for all modifiers at one place, so do this. An AUX color plane can be a CCS or a UV plane, use only the more specific query functions and remove is_aux_plane() becoming redundant. While at it add a TODO for linear UV color plane alignments. The spec requires this to be stride-in-bytes * 64 on all platforms, whereas the driver uses an alignment of 4k for gen<12 and 256k for gen>=12 for linear UV planes. v2: - Restore previous alignment for linear UV surfaces. 2021-03-29drm/i915: Simplify copying the FB view state to the plane stateImre Deak
Instead of copying separately the GTT remapped and color plane view info from the FB to the plane state, do this by copying the whole intel_fb_view struct. For this we make sure the FB view state is fully inited (that is also including the view type) already during FB creation, so this init is not required during atomic check time. This also means the we don't need to reset the unused color plane info during atomic check, as these are already reset during FB creation. I noticed that initial FBs will only work atm if they are page aligned (which BIOS most probably always ensures), but add a comment to sanitize this part once. Also we won't disable the plane if get_initial_plane_config() failed for some reason (for instance due to unsupported rotation), add a TODO: comment for this too.
