2024-07-23drm/amd/display: fix dscclk programming sequence on DCN401Wenjing Liu
[why] The mux to switch between refclk and dto_dsc_clk is non double buffered. However dto dsc clk's phase and modulo divider registers are currently configured as double buffered update. This causes a problem when we switch to use dto dsc clk and program phase and modulo in the same sequence. In this sequence dsc clk is switched to dto but the clock divider programming doesn't take effect until next frame. When we try to program DSCC registers, SMN bus will hang because dto dsc clk divider phase is set to 0. [how] Configure phase and modulo to take effect immediately. Always switch to dto dsc clk before DSC clock is unagted. Switch back to refclk after DSC clock is gated. 2024-06-05drm/amd/display: Keep VBios pixel rate div setting until next mode setyi-lchen
[why] Vbios & Driver have difference pixel rate div policy. When enabling fast boot & performing blank & unblank w/o timing setting, pixel clock & pixel rate dividor are not match. It would cause too high pixel reate and eDP would be black screen. [How] We would keep pixel rate div setting by Vbios until next timing setting. 2023-12-06drm/amd/display: add support for DTO genarated dscclkWenjing Liu
Current implementation will choose to use refclk as dscclk. This is not recommended by hardware team as refclk is a fixed value which could cause unnecessary power consumption or it could be not enough for large DSC timings. So we are adding new interfaces so we could switch to use dynamically generated DSCCLK by DTO. So DSCCLK is programmable based on current pixel clock and dispclk. 2023-06-15drm/amd/display: Skip DPP DTO update if root clock is gatedNicholas Kazlauskas
[Why] Hardware implements root clock gating by utilizing the DPP DTO registers with a special case of DTO enabled, phase = 0, modulo = 1. This conflicts with our policy to always update the DPPDTO for cases where it's expected to be disabled. The pipes unexpectedly enter a higher power state than expected because of this programming flow. [How] Guard the upper layers of HWSS against this hardware quirk with programming the register with an internal state flag in DCCG. While technically acting as global state for the DCCG, HWSS shouldn't be expected to understand the hardware quirk for having DTO disabled causing more power than DTO enabled with this specific setting. This also prevents sequencing errors from occuring in the future if we have to program DPP DTO in multiple locations. 2023-03-31drm/amd/display: Fix 4to1 MPC black screen with DPP RCONicholas Kazlauskas
[Why] DPP Root clock optimization when combined with 4to1 MPC combine results in the screen turning black. This is because the DPPCLK is stopped during the middle of an optimize_bandwidth sequence during commit_minimal_transition without going through plane power down/power up. [How] The intent of a 0Hz DPP clock through update_clocks is to disable the DTO. This differs from the behavior of stopping the DPPCLK entirely (utilizing a 0Hz clock on some ASIC) so it's better to move this logic to reside next to plane power up/power down where we gate the HUBP/DPP DOMAIN. The new sequence should be: Power down: PG enabled -> RCO on Power up: RCO off -> PG disabled Rename power_on_plane to power_on_plane_resources to reflect the actual operation that's occurring. [WHY] Very low rate to cause memory access issue while resetting DMCUB after the halt command was sent to it. The process of stopping fw of DMCUB may be timeout, that means it is not in idle state, such as the window frames may still be kept in cache, so reset by force will cause MMHUB hang. [HOW] After the halt command was sent, keep checking the DMCUB state until it is idle. 2022-06-01drm/amd/display: Pass the new context into disable OTG WANicholas Kazlauskas
[Why] When enabling an HPO stream for the first time after having previously enabled a DIO stream there may be lingering DIO FIFO errors even though the DIO is no longer enabled. These can cause display clock change to hang if we don't apply the OTG disable workaround since the ramping logic is tied to OTG on. [How] The workaround wasn't being applied in the sequence of: 1 DIO stream 0 streams 1 HPO stream because current_state has no stream or planes in its context - and it's only swapped after optimize has finished. We should be using the incoming context instead to determine whether this logic is needed or not. [Why] before update dpp DTO, we check dppclks in context to determine it is changed or not, but dppclks in context will be updated anyways after flip is done, so compare dppclks in context will always get an equal result. 2019-08-15drm/amd/display: fixup DPP programming sequenceJun Lei
[why] DC does not correct account for the fact that DPP DTO is double buffered while DPP ref is not. This means that when DPP ref clock is lowered when it's "safe to lower", the DPP blocks that need an increased divider will temporarily have actual DPP clock drop below minimum while DTO double buffering takes effect. This results in temporary underflow. [how] To fix this, DPP clock cannot be programmed atomically, but rather be broken up into the DTO and the ref. Each has a separate "safe to lower" logic. When doing "prepare" the ref and dividers may only increase. When doing "optimize", both may decrease. It is guaranteed that we won't exceed max DPP clock because we do not use dividers larger than 1.
