2022-09-28powerpc: Use common syscall handler typeRohan McLure
Cause syscall handlers to be typed as follows when called indirectly throughout the kernel. This is to allow for better type checking. typedef long (*syscall_fn)(unsigned long, unsigned long, unsigned long, unsigned long, unsigned long, unsigned long); Since both 32 and 64-bit abis allow for at least the first six machine-word length parameters to a function to be passed by registers, even handlers which admit fewer than six parameters may be viewed as having the above type. Coercing syscalls to syscall_fn requires a cast to void* to avoid -Wcast-function-type. Fixup comparisons in VDSO to avoid pointer-integer comparison. Introduce explicit cast on systems with SPUs. 2020-06-17powerpc/syscalls: Use the number when building SPU syscall tableMichael Ellerman
Currently the macro that inserts entries into the SPU syscall table doesn't actually use the "nr" (syscall number) parameter. This does work, but it relies on the exact right number of syscall entries being emitted in order for the syscal numbers to line up with the array entries. If for example we had two entries with the same syscall number we wouldn't get an error, it would just cause all subsequent syscalls to be off by one in the spu_syscall_table. So instead change the macro to assign to the specific entry of the array, meaning any numbering overlap will be caught by the compiler. 2019-03-02powerpc: remove nargs from __SYSCALLFiroz Khan
The __SYSCALL macro's arguments are system call number, system call entry name and number of arguments for the system call. Argument- nargs in __SYSCALL(nr, entry, nargs) is neither calculated nor used anywhere. So it would be better to keep the implementaion as __SYSCALL(nr, entry). 2018-12-21powerpc: generate uapi header and system call table filesFiroz Khan
System call table generation script must be run to gener- ate unistd_32/64.h and syscall_table_32/64/c32/spu.h files. This patch will have changes which will invokes the script. This patch will generate unistd_32/64.h and syscall_table- _32/64/c32/spu.h files by the syscall table generation script invoked by parisc/Makefile and the generated files against the removed files must be identical. The generated uapi header file will be included in uapi/- asm/unistd.h and generated system call table header file will be included by kernel/systbl.S file. 2018-05-10powerpc/syscalls: Add COMPAT_SPU_NEW() macroMichael Ellerman
Currently the select system call is wired up with the SYSX_SPU() macro. The SYSX_SPU() is not handled by systbl_chk.c, which means the syscall number for select is not checked. That hides the fact that the syscall number for select is actually __NR__newselect not __NR_select. In a following patch we'd like to drop ppc32_select() which means select will become a regular COMPAT_SYS_SPU() syscall. But COMPAT_SYS_SPU() can't deal with the fact that the syscall number is actually __NR__newselect. We also can't just redefine __NR_select because that's still used for the old select call. So add a new COMPAT_NEW_SPU() that does the same thing as COMPAT_SYS_SPU() except it encodes that we're using the new number. Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au>

2015-03-28powerpc: Add a proper syscall for switching endiannessMichael Ellerman
We currently have a "special" syscall for switching endianness. This is syscall number 0x1ebe, which is handled explicitly in the 64-bit syscall exception entry. That has a few problems, firstly the syscall number is outside of the usual range, which confuses various tools. For example strace doesn't recognise the syscall at all. Secondly it's handled explicitly as a special case in the syscall exception entry, which is complicated enough without it. As a first step toward removing the special syscall, we need to add a regular syscall that implements the same functionality. The logic is simple, it simply toggles the MSR_LE bit in the userspace MSR. This is the same as the special syscall, with the caveat that the special syscall clobbers fewer registers. sys_splice() moves data to/from pipes with a file input/output. sys_vmsplice() moves data to a pipe, with the input being a user address range instead. This uses an approach suggested by Linus, where we can hold partial ranges inside the pages[] map. Hopefully this will be useful for network receive support as well. 2006-03-27[PATCH] spufs: allow SPU code to do syscallsArnd Bergmann
An SPU does not have a way to implement system calls itself, but it can create intercepts to the kernel. This patch uses the method defined by the JSRE interface for C99 host library calls from an SPU to implement Linux system calls. It uses the reserved SPU stop code 0x2104 for this, using the structure layout and syscall numbers for ppc64-linux. I'm still undecided wether it is better to have a list of allowed syscalls or a list of forbidden syscalls, since we can't allow an SPU to call all syscalls that are defined for ppc64-linux. This patch implements the easier choice of them, with a blacklist that only prevents an SPU from calling anything that interacts with its own execution, e.g fork, execve, clone, vfork, exit, spu_run and spu_create and everything that deals with signals.
