2024-03-03powerpc/machdep: Define 'compatibles' property in ppc_md and use itChristophe Leroy
Most probe functions that do not use the 'compatible' string do nothing else than checking whether the machine is compatible with one of the strings in a NULL terminated table of strings. Define that table of strings in ppc_md structure and check it directly from probe_machine() instead of using ppc_md.probe() for that. Keep checking in ppc_md.probe() only for more complex probing. All .compatible could be replaced with a single element NULL terminated list but that's not worth the churn. Can be do incrementaly in follow-up patches. 2023-03-16powerpc: Make generic_calibrate_decr() the defaultChristophe Leroy
ppc_md.calibrate_decr() is a mandatory item. Its nullity is never checked so it must be non null on all platforms. Most platforms define generic_calibrate_decr() as their ppc_md.calibrate_decr(). Have time_init() call generic_calibrate_decr() when ppc_md.calibrate_decr() is NULL, and remove default assignment from all machines. 2016-07-21powerpc: Move 32-bit probe() machine to later in the boot processBenjamin Herrenschmidt
This converts all the 32-bit platforms to use the expanded device-tree which is a pretty mechanical change. Unlike 64-bit, the 32-bit kernel didn't rely on platform initializations to setup the MMU since it sets it up entirely before probe_machine() so the move has comparatively less consequences though it's a bigger patch. 2014-09-25powerpc: make of_device_ids constUwe Kleine-König
of_device_ids (i.e. compatible strings and the respective data) are not supposed to change at runtime. All functions working with of_device_ids provided by <linux/of.h> work with const of_device_ids. This allows to mark all struct of_device_id const, too. While touching these line also put the __init annotation at the right position where necessary. This patch moves the declaration of of_get_address(), of_get_pci_address(), and of_pci_address_to_resource() out of arch code and into the common linux/of_address header file. This patch also fixes some of the asm/prom.h ordering issues. There is no good reason for board platform code to mess with the ROOT_DEV. Remove it from all in-tree platforms except powermac This is a follow on to commit 745e1027751acbc1f14f8bbef378b491242b9c83. The original patch had this change to lite5200.c, but it got dropped in the psycho madness that is the 2.6.24 merge window. 2007-10-10[POWERPC] MPC5200: Don't make firmware fixups into common codeGrant Likely
The Lite5200 u-boot image doesn't entirely configure the processor correctly and so Linux needs to fixup the cpu setup in setup_arch. Fixing the CPU setup is good, but making it into common code is not a good idea. New board ports should be encouraged not to take the lead of the lite5200 and instead get their firmware to setup the CPU the right way. Implement deep-sleep on MPC52xx. SDRAM is put into self-refresh with help of SRAM code (alternatives would be code in FLASH, I-cache). Interrupt code must also not be in SDRAM, so put it in I-cache. MPC52xx core is static, so contents will remain intact even with clocks turned off. 2007-01-09[POWERPC] 52xx: Don't use device_initcall to probe of_platform_busSylvain Munaut
Using device_initcall makes it happen for every platform that compiles this file in. This is really bad, for obvious reasons. Instead, we use the .init field of the machine description. If the platform needs the hook to do something specific it can provides its own function and call mpc52xx_declare_of_platform_devices from there. If not, the mpc52xx_declare_of_platform_devices function can directly be used as the init hook.
