2010-05-27fs/: do not fallback to default_llseek() when readdir() uses BKLjan Blunck
Do not use the fallback default_llseek() if the readdir operation of the filesystem still uses the big kernel lock. Since llseek() modifies file->f_pos of the directory directly it may need locking to not confuse readdir which usually uses file->f_pos directly as well Since the special characteristics of the BKL (unlocked on schedule) are not necessary in this case, the inode mutex can be used for locking as provided by generic_file_llseek(). This is only possible since all filesystems, except reiserfs, either use a directory as a flat file or with disk address offsets. Reiserfs on the other hand uses a 32bit hash off the filename as the offset so generic_file_llseek() can get used as well since the hash is always smaller than sb->s_maxbytes (= (512 << 32) - blocksize). Converting from ->ioctl to ->unlocked_ioctl with explicit lock_kernel lets us kill the ioctl operation. Signed-off-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> [fixed inode reference in smb_ioctl] Signed-off-by: Frederic Weisbecker <fweisbec@gmail.com>

2008-11-14CRED: Wrap task credential accesses in the SMBFS filesystemDavid Howells
Wrap access to task credentials so that they can be separated more easily from the task_struct during the introduction of COW creds. Change most current->(|e|s|fs)[ug]id to current_(|e|s|fs)[ug]id(). Change some task->e?[ug]id to task_e?[ug]id(). In some places it makes more sense to use RCU directly rather than a convenient wrapper; these will be addressed by later patches. 2007-05-21Detach sched.h from mm.hAlexey Dobriyan
First thing mm.h does is including sched.h solely for can_do_mlock() inline function which has "current" dereference inside. By dealing with can_do_mlock() mm.h can be detached from sched.h which is good. See below, why. This patch a) removes unconditional inclusion of sched.h from mm.h b) makes can_do_mlock() normal function in mm/mlock.c c) exports can_do_mlock() to not break compilation d) adds sched.h inclusions back to files that were getting it indirectly. e) adds less bloated headers to some files (asm/signal.h, jiffies.h) that were getting them indirectly Net result is: a) mm.h users would get less code to open, read, preprocess, parse, ... if they don't need sched.h b) sched.h stops being dependency for significant number of files: on x86_64 allmodconfig touching sched.h results in recompile of 4083 files, after patch it's only 3744 (-8.3%). Cross-compile tested on all arm defconfigs, all mips defconfigs, all powerpc defconfigs, alpha alpha-up arm i386 i386-up i386-defconfig i386-allnoconfig ia64 ia64-up m68k mips parisc parisc-up powerpc powerpc-up s390 s390-up sparc sparc-up sparc64 sparc64-up um-x86_64 x86_64 x86_64-up x86_64-defconfig x86_64-allnoconfig as well as my two usual configs. 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 3Arjan van de Ven
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-05-15[PATCH] smbfs chroot issue (CVE-2006-1864)Olaf Kirch
Mark Moseley reported that a chroot environment on a SMB share can be left via "cd ..\\". Similar to CVE-2006-1863 issue with cifs, this fix is for smbfs. Steven French <sfrench@us.ibm.com> wrote: Looks fine to me. This should catch the slash on lookup or equivalent, which will be all obvious paths of interest. 2006-03-28[PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven
This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-02-01[PATCH] smbfs readdir vs signal fixAndrew Morton
An old patch designed to fix http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4497, "getdents gives empty/random result upon signal". If smbfs's readdir() is interupted by a signal, smb_readdir() failed to noticed that and proceeded to treat the unread-into page as valid directory contents. Fix that up by handling the -ERESTARTSYS. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
