If the stream's pause_supported flag is false then mask out the PAUSE support, so user space will be prevented to use it. 2022-10-20ALSA/ASoC: hda: move SPIB/DRMS functionality from ext layerPierre-Louis Bossart
The SPIB and DRMS capabilities are orthogonal to the DSP enablement and can be used whether the stream is coupled or not. The existing code partitioning makes limited sense, the capabilities are parsed at the sound/hda level but helpers are located in sound/hda/ext. This patch moves all the SPIB/DRMS functionality to the sound/hda layer. This reduces the complexity of the sound/hda/ext layer which is now limited to handling the multi-link extensions and stream coupling/decoupling helpers. Note that this is an iso-functionality code move and rename, the HDaudio legacy driver would need additional changes to make use of these capabilities. 2022-02-09ASoC: SOF: Intel: hdac_ext_stream: consistent prefixes for variables/membersPierre-Louis Bossart
The existing code maximizes confusion by using 'stream' and 'hstream' variables of different types, e.g: struct hdac_stream *stream; struct hdac_ext_stream *stream; struct hdac_stream *hstream; struct hdac_ext_stream *hstream; This confusion is partly inherited from legacy code but SOF contributors added their own creative spin, e.g. struct hdac_ext_stream *link_dev; struct hdac_ext_stream *dsp_stream; struct hdac_ext_stream hda_stream; and my personal favorite: stream = &hda_stream->hda_stream; This patch suggests a consistent naming across all Intel code related to HDAudio stream management. The convention is - by hierarchical order: struct sof_intel_hda_stream *hda_stream; struct hdac_ext_stream *hext_stream; struct hdac_stream *hstream; No functionality change - just renaming of variables/members. 2021-11-24ASoC: SOF: Intel: add .ack support for HDaudio platformsRanjani Sridharan
When we disable rewinds, then the .ack can be used to program SPIB with the application pointer, which allows the HDaudio DMA to save power by opportunistically bursting data transfers when the path to memory is enabled (and conversely to shut it down when there are no transfer requests). The SPIB register can only be programmed with incremental values with wrap-around after the DMA RUN bits are set. For simplicity, we set the INFO_NO_REWINDS flag in the .open callback when we already need to program the SNDRV_PCM_INFO_SYNC_APPLPTR flag. Rewinds are not used by many applications. One notable application using rewinds is PulseAudio. Practical experiments with Ubuntu/PulseAudio default settings did not show any audible issues, but the user may hear volume changes and notification with a delay, depending on the size of the ring buffer and latency constraints. The choice of disabling rewinds is exposed as a kernel parameter and not a Kconfig option to avoid any undesirable side-effects. 2021-08-13ASoC: SOF: Intel: make DMI L1 selection more robustPierre-Louis Bossart
Exposing the DMI L1 configuration as a kernel Kconfig option was in hindsight a really bad idea. It led to several errors reported by distributions which selected it by mistake. The Kconfig is now replaced with a kernel parameter. Since DMI L1 entry is incompatible with pause on a capture stream, the latter is disabled when the kernel parameter is set. Experimental results show an increased residency in higher C states and a significant decrease of system power consumption for "work from home" usages such as VoIP calls.
