2025-05-31batman-adv: store hard_iface as iflink private dataMatthias Schiffer
By passing the hard_iface to netdev_master_upper_dev_link() as private data, we can iterate over hardifs of a mesh interface more efficiently using netdev_for_each_lower_private*() (instead of iterating over the global hardif list). In addition, this will enable resolving a hardif from its netdev using netdev_lower_dev_get_private() and getting rid of the global list altogether in the following patches. A similar approach can be seen in the bonding driver. 2025-02-22batman-adv: Use consistent name for mesh interfaceSven Eckelmann
The way how the virtual interface is called inside the batman-adv source code is not consistent. The genl headers call it meshif and the rest of the code calls is (mostly) softif. The genl definitions cannot be touched because they are part of the UAPI. But the rest of the batman-adv code can be touched to have a consistent name again. The bulk of the renaming was done using sed -i -e 's/soft\(-\|\_\| \|\)i\([nf]\)/mesh\1i\2/g' \ -e 's/SOFT\(-\|\_\| \|\)I\([NF]\)/MESH\1I\2/g' and then it was adjusted slightly when proofreading the changes. 2025-02-08batman-adv: Ignore own maximum aggregation size during RXSven Eckelmann
An OGMv1 and OGMv2 packet receive processing were not only limited by the number of bytes in the received packet but also by the nodes maximum aggregation packet size limit. But this limit is relevant for TX and not for RX. It must not be enforced by batadv_(i)v_ogm_aggr_packet to avoid loss of information in case of a different limit for sender and receiver. This has a minor side effect for B.A.T.M.A.N. IV because the batadv_iv_ogm_aggr_packet is also used for the preprocessing for the TX. But since the aggregation code itself will not allow more than BATADV_MAX_AGGREGATION_BYTES bytes, this check was never triggering (in this context) prior of removing it. 2023-01-21batman-adv: tvlv: prepare for tvlv enabled multicast packet typeLinus Lüssing
Prepare TVLV infrastructure for more packet types, in particular the upcoming batman-adv multicast packet type. For that swap the OGM vs. unicast-tvlv packet boolean indicator to an explicit unsigned integer packet type variable. And provide the skb to a call to batadv_tvlv_containers_process(), as later the multicast packet's TVLV handler will need to have access not only to the TVLV but the full skb for forwarding. Forwarding will be invoked from the multicast packet's TVLVs' contents later. 2021-02-06batman-adv: Drop publication years from copyright infoSven Eckelmann
The batman-adv source code was using the year of publication (to net-next) as "last" year for the copyright statement. The whole source code mentioned in the MAINTAINERS "BATMAN ADVANCED" section was handled as a single entity regarding the publishing year. This avoided having outdated (in sense of year information - not copyright holder) publishing information inside several files. But since the simple "update copyright year" commit (without other changes) in the file was not well received in the upstream kernel, the option to not have a copyright year (for initial and last publication) in the files are chosen instead. More detailed information about the years can still be retrieved from the SCM system. 2020-08-18batman-adv: Fix own OGM check in aggregated OGMsLinus Lüssing
The own OGM check is currently misplaced and can lead to the following issues: For one thing we might receive an aggregated OGM from a neighbor node which has our own OGM in the first place. We would then not only skip our own OGM but erroneously also any other, following OGM in the aggregate. For another, we might receive an OGM aggregate which has our own OGM in a place other then the first one. Then we would wrongly not skip this OGM, leading to populating the orginator and gateway table with ourself. 2020-06-26batman-adv: Introduce a configurable per interface hop penaltyLinus Lüssing
In some setups multiple hard interfaces with similar link qualities or throughput values are available. But people have expressed the desire to consider one of them as a backup only. Some creative solutions are currently in use: Such people are configuring multiple batman-adv mesh/soft interfaces, wire them together with some veth pairs and then tune the hop penalty to achieve an effect similar to a tunable per interface hop penalty. This patch introduces a new, configurable, per hard interface hop penalty to simplify such setups. 2020-04-21batman-adv: Fix refcnt leak in batadv_v_ogm_processXiyu Yang
batadv_v_ogm_process() invokes batadv_hardif_neigh_get(), which returns a reference of the neighbor object to "hardif_neigh" with increased refcount. When batadv_v_ogm_process() returns, "hardif_neigh" becomes invalid, so the refcount should be decreased to keep refcount balanced. The reference counting issue happens in one exception handling paths of batadv_v_ogm_process(). When batadv_v_ogm_orig_get() fails to get the orig node and returns NULL, the refcnt increased by batadv_hardif_neigh_get() is not decreased, causing a refcnt leak. Fix this issue by jumping to "out" label when batadv_v_ogm_orig_get() fails to get the orig node. 'aggr_list.lock' can safely be used in place of another explicit spinlock when access to 'aggr_list' has to be guarded. This avoids to take 2 locks, knowing that the 2nd one is always successful. Now that the 'aggr_list.lock' is handled explicitly, the lock-free __sbk_something() variants should be used when dealing with 'aggr_list'. 2019-10-13batman-adv: Avoid free/alloc race when handling OGM2 bufferSven Eckelmann
A B.A.T.M.A.N. V virtual interface has an OGM2 packet buffer which is initialized using data from the netdevice notifier and other rtnetlink related hooks. It is sent regularly via various slave interfaces of the batadv virtual interface and in this process also modified (realloced) to integrate additional state information via TVLV containers. It must be avoided that the worker item is executed without a common lock with the netdevice notifier/rtnetlink helpers. Otherwise it can either happen that half modified data is sent out or the functions modifying the OGM2 buffer try to access already freed memory regions. 2019-08-23batman-adv: Only read OGM2 tvlv_len after buffer len checkSven Eckelmann
Multiple batadv_ogm2_packet can be stored in an skbuff. The functions batadv_v_ogm_send_to_if() uses batadv_v_ogm_aggr_packet() to check if there is another additional batadv_ogm2_packet in the skb or not before they continue processing the packet. The length for such an OGM2 is BATADV_OGM2_HLEN + batadv_ogm2_packet->tvlv_len. The check must first check that at least BATADV_OGM2_HLEN bytes are available before it accesses tvlv_len (which is part of the header. Otherwise it might try read outside of the currently available skbuff to get the content of tvlv_len. The header file is used by different userspace programs to inject packets or to decode sniffed packets. It should therefore be available to them as userspace header. The FSFE REUSE practices [1] would also require the same tags but have no restrictions on the placement in the source file. Using the "Linux kernel licensing rules" is therefore also fulfilling the FSFE REUSE practices requirements at the same time. With this patch, (re)broadcasting on a specific interfaces is avoided: * No neighbor: There is no need to broadcast on an interface if there is no node behind it. * Single neighbor is source: If there is just one neighbor on an interface and if this neighbor is the one we actually got this broadcast packet from, then we do not need to echo it back. * Single neighbor is originator: If there is just one neighbor on an interface and if this neighbor is the originator of this broadcast packet, then we do not need to echo it back. Goodies for BATMAN V: ("Upgrade your BATMAN IV network to V now to get these for free!") Thanks to the split of OGMv1 into two packet types, OGMv2 and ELP that is, we can now apply the same optimizations stated above to OGMv2 packets, too. Furthermore, with BATMAN V, rebroadcasts can be reduced in certain multi interface cases, too, where BATMAN IV cannot. This is thanks to the removal of the "secondary interface originator" concept in BATMAN V. The routing API data structure contains several function pointers that can easily be grouped together based on the component they work with. Split the API in subobjects in order to improve definition readability. At the same time, remove the "bat_" prefix from the API object and its fields names. These are batman-adv private structs and there is no need to always prepend such prefix, which only makes function invocations much much longer.
