2024-10-17usb: gadget: uvc: dont call usb_composite_setup_continue when not streamingMichael Grzeschik
If the streamoff call was triggered by some previous disconnect or userspace application shutdown the uvc_function_setup_continue should not be called and the state should not be overwritten. For this situation the set_alt(0) was never called and the streaming ep has no USB_GADGET_DELAYED_STATUS pending. Since the state then was already updated before we also omit the state update. 2024-10-16usb: gadget: uvc: configfs: Add frame-based frame format supportAkash Kumar
Add support for frame-based frame format, which can be used to support multiple formats like H264 or H265, in addition to MJPEG and YUV frames. The frame-based format is set to H264 by default, but it can be updated to other formats by modifying the GUID through the guid configfs attribute. Different structures are used for all three formats, as H264 has a different structure compared to MJPEG and uncompressed formats. These structures will be passed to the frame make function based on the active format, using a common frame structure with additional parameters needed only for frame-based formats. These parameters are handled at runtime in the UVC driver. 2023-11-23usb: gadget: uvc: Fix use-after-free for inflight usb_requestsAvichal Rakesh
Currently, the uvc gadget driver allocates all uvc_requests as one array and deallocates them all when the video stream stops. This includes de-allocating all the usb_requests associated with those uvc_requests. This can lead to use-after-free issues if any of those de-allocated usb_requests were still owned by the usb controller. This is patch 2 of 2 in fixing the use-after-free issue. It adds a new flag to uvc_video to track when frames and requests should be flowing. When disabling the video stream, the flag is tripped and, instead of de-allocating all uvc_requests and usb_requests, the gadget driver only de-allocates those usb_requests that are currently owned by it (as present in req_free). Other usb_requests are left untouched until their completion handler is called which takes care of freeing the usb_request and its corresponding uvc_request. Now that uvc_video does not depends on uvc->state, this patch removes unnecessary upates to uvc->state that were made to accommodate uvc_video logic. This should ensure that uvc gadget driver never accidentally de-allocates a usb_request that it doesn't own. 2023-11-23usb: gadget: uvc: prevent use of disabled endpointAvichal Rakesh
Currently the set_alt callback immediately disables the endpoint and queues the v4l2 streamoff event. However, as the streamoff event is processed asynchronously, it is possible that the video_pump thread attempts to queue requests to an already disabled endpoint. This change moves disabling usb endpoint to the end of streamoff event callback. As the endpoint's state can no longer be used, video_pump is now guarded by uvc->state as well. To be consistent with the actual streaming state, uvc->state is now toggled between CONNECTED and STREAMING from the v4l2 event callback only. 2022-05-05usb: gadget: uvc: allow for application to cleanly shutdownDan Vacura
Several types of kernel panics can occur due to timing during the uvc gadget removal. This appears to be a problem with gadget resources being managed by both the client application's v4l2 open/close and the UDC gadget bind/unbind. Since the concept of USB_GADGET_DELAYED_STATUS doesn't exist for unbind, add a wait to allow for the application to close out. Some examples of the panics that can occur are: <1>[ 1147.652313] Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000000000000028 <4>[ 1147.652510] Call trace: <4>[ 1147.652514] usb_gadget_disconnect+0x74/0x1f0 <4>[ 1147.652516] usb_gadget_deactivate+0x38/0x168 <4>[ 1147.652520] usb_function_deactivate+0x54/0x90 <4>[ 1147.652524] uvc_function_disconnect+0x14/0x38 <4>[ 1147.652527] uvc_v4l2_release+0x34/0xa0 <4>[ 1147.652537] __fput+0xdc/0x2c0 <4>[ 1147.652540] ____fput+0x10/0x1c <4>[ 1147.652545] task_work_run+0xe4/0x12c <4>[ 1147.652549] do_notify_resume+0x108/0x168 <1>[ 282.950561][ T1472] Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000000005b8 <6>[ 282.953111][ T1472] Call trace: <6>[ 282.953121][ T1472] usb_function_deactivate+0x54/0xd4 <6>[ 282.953134][ T1472] uvc_v4l2_release+0xac/0x1e4 <6>[ 282.953145][ T1472] v4l2_release+0x134/0x1f0 <6>[ 282.953167][ T1472] __fput+0xf4/0x428 <6>[ 282.953178][ T1472] ____fput+0x14/0x24 <6>[ 282.953193][ T1472] task_work_run+0xac/0x130 <3>[ 213.410077][ T29] configfs-gadget gadget: uvc: Failed to queue request (-108). <1>[ 213.410116][ T29] Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000000000000003 <6>[ 213.413460][ T29] Call trace: <6>[ 213.413474][ T29] uvcg_video_pump+0x1f0/0x384 <6>[ 213.413489][ T29] process_one_work+0x2a4/0x544 <6>[ 213.413502][ T29] worker_thread+0x350/0x784 <6>[ 213.413515][ T29] kthread+0x2ac/0x320 <6>[ 213.413528][ T29] ret_from_fork+0x10/0x30 Signed-off-by: Dan Vacura <w36195@motorola.com> Cc: stable <stable@vger.kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220503201039.71720-1-w36195@motorola.com Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

2021-10-05usb: gadget: uvc: fix multiple opensThomas Haemmerle
Currently, the UVC function is activated when open on the corresponding v4l2 device is called. On another open the activation of the function fails since the deactivation counter in `usb_function_activate` equals 0. However the error is not returned to userspace since the open of the v4l2 device is successful. On a close the function is deactivated (since deactivation counter still equals 0) and the video is disabled in `uvc_v4l2_release`, although the UVC application potentially is streaming. Move activation of UVC function to subscription on UVC_EVENT_SETUP because there we can guarantee for a userspace application utilizing UVC. Block subscription on UVC_EVENT_SETUP while another application already is subscribed to it, indicated by `bool func_connected` in `struct uvc_device`. Extend the `struct uvc_file_handle` with member `bool is_uvc_app_handle` to tag it as the handle used by the userspace UVC application. With this a process is able to check capabilities of the v4l2 device without deactivating the function for the actual UVC application. This patch changes the function uvc_video_pump to be a separate scheduled worker. This way the completion handler of each usb request and every direct caller of the pump has only to schedule the worker instead of doing the request handling by itself. Moving the request handling to one thread solves the locking problems between the three queueing cases in the completion handler, v4l2_qbuf and video_enable. Many drivers handle the completion handlers directly in their interrupt handlers. This patch also reduces the workload on each interrupt. 2015-03-02[media] uvc gadget: switch to v4l2 core lockingHans Verkuil
Switch this driver over to the V4L2 core locking mechanism in preparation for switching to unlocked_ioctl. Suggested by Laurent Pinchart. This patch introduces a new mutex at the struct uvc_video level and drops the old mutex at the queue level. The new lock is now used for all ioctl locking and in the release file operation (the driver always has to take care of locking in file operations, the core only serializes ioctls). Note that the mmap and get_unmapped_area file operations no longer take a lock. Commit f035eb4e976ef5a059e30bc91cfd310ff030a7d3 fixed a AB-BA deadlock by moving all the locking down into vb2, so the mmap and get_unmapped_area file operations should no longer do any locking before calling into vb2. 2014-09-08usb: gadget: f_uvc: Store EP0 control request state during setup stageLaurent Pinchart
To handle class requests received on ep0, the driver needs to access the length and direction of the request after the setup stage. It currently stores them in a v4l2 event during the setup stage, and then copies them from the event structure to the driver internal state structure when the event is dequeued. This two-steps approach isn't necessary. Simplify the driver by storing the needed information in the driver internal state structure directly during the setup stage.
