2025-05-20PCI: Remove hybrid-devres usage warnings from kernel-docPhilipp Stanner
pci/iomap.c still contains warnings about those functions not behaving in a managed manner if pcim_enable_device() was called. Since all hybrid behavior that users could know about has been removed by now, those explicit warnings are no longer necessary. Remove the hybrid-devres usage warnings from the kernel-doc. 2025-03-14PCI: Check BAR index for validityPhilipp Stanner
Many functions in PCI use accessor macros such as pci_resource_len(), which take a BAR index. That index, however, is never checked for validity, potentially resulting in undefined behavior by overflowing the array pci_dev.resource in the macro pci_resource_n(). Since many users of those macros directly assign the accessed value to an unsigned integer, the macros cannot be changed easily anymore to return -EINVAL for invalid indexes. Consequently, the problem has to be mitigated in higher layers. Add pci_bar_index_valid(). Use it where appropriate. 2024-07-10PCI: Document hybrid devres hazardsPhilipp Stanner
These functions: pci_request_region() pci_request_regions() pci_request_regions_exclusive() pci_request_selected_regions() pci_request_selected_regions_exclusive() pci_intx() are "hybrid" functions that are managed if pcim_enable_device() has been called, but unmanaged otherwise. This is confusing and has already caused a bug (in 8558de401b5f ("drm/vboxvideo: use managed pci functions")) because users believe all PCI functions, such as pci_iomap_range(), can become managed that way, which is not the case. Add comments to the relevant functions' docstrings that warn users about this behavior. 2024-02-12PCI: Move pci_iomap.c to drivers/pci/Philipp Stanner
The entirety of pci_iomap.c is guarded by an #ifdef CONFIG_PCI. It, consequently, does not belong to lib/ because it is not generic infrastructure. Move pci_iomap.c to drivers/pci/ and implement the necessary changes to Makefiles and Kconfigs. Update MAINTAINERS file. Update Documentation.
