Unlike X2 and EF100, we do not attempt to parse the firmware file to find an image within it; we simply hand the entire file to the MC, which is responsible for understanding any container formats we might use and validating that the firmware file is applicable to this NIC. 2024-10-06sfc: implement basic per-queue statsEdward Cree
Just RX and TX packet counts and TX bytes for now. We do not have per-queue RX byte counts, which causes us to fail stats.pkt_byte_sum selftest with "Drivers should always report basic keys" error. Per-queue counts are since the last time the queue was inited (typically by efx_start_datapath(), on ifup or reconfiguration); device-wide total (efx_get_base_stats()) is since driver probe. This is not the same lifetime as rtnl_link_stats64, which uses firmware stats which count since FW (re)booted; this can cause a "Qstats are lower" or "RTNL stats are lower" failure in stats.pkt_byte_sum selftest. Move the increment of rx_queue->rx_packets to match the semantics specified for netdev per-queue stats, i.e. just before handing the packet to XDP (if present) or the netstack (through GRO). This will affect the existing ethtool -S output which also reports these counters. XDP TX packets are not yet counted into base_stats. The n_rx_tobe_disc and n_rx_mcast_mismatch counters are a legacy from farch, and are never written in EF10 or EF100 code. 2024-06-28sfc: use new rxfh_context APIEdward Cree
The core is now responsible for allocating IDs and a memory region for us to store our state (struct efx_rss_context_priv), so we no longer need efx_alloc_rss_context_entry() and friends. Since the contexts are now maintained by the core, use the core's lock (net_dev->ethtool->rss_lock), rather than our own mutex (efx->rss_lock), to serialise access against changes; and remove the now-unused efx->rss_lock from struct efx_nic. For each neighbour we're interested in, create a struct efx_neigh_binder object which has a list of all the encap_actions using it. When we receive a neighbouring update (through the netevent notifier), find the corresponding efx_neigh_binder and update all its users. Since the actual generation of encap headers is still only a stub, the resulting rules still get left on fallback actions. The TC extra channel will need its own special RX handling, which must operate before any code that expects the RX buffer to contain a network packet; buffers on this RX queue contain MAE counter packets in a special format that does not resemble an Ethernet frame, and many fields of the RX packet prefix are not populated. The USER_MARK field, however, is populated with the generation count from the counter subsystem, which needs to be passed on to the RX handler. 2022-07-29sfc: insert default MAE rules to connect VFs to representorsEdward Cree
Default rules are low-priority switching rules which the hardware uses in the absence of higher-priority rules. Each representor requires a corresponding rule matching traffic from its representee VF and delivering to the PF (where a check on INGRESS_MPORT in __ef100_rx_packet() will direct it to the representor). No rule is required in the reverse direction, because representor TX uses a TX override descriptor to bypass the MAE and deliver directly to the VF. Since inserting any rule into the MAE disables the firmware's own default rules, also insert a pair of rules to connect the PF to the physical network port and vice-versa. 2022-02-01sfc: The size of the RX recycle ring should be more flexibleMartin Habets
Ideally the size would depend on the link speed, but the recycle ring is created when the interface is brought up before the driver knows the link speed. So size it for the maximum speed of a given NIC. PowerPC is only supported on SFN7xxx and SFN8xxx NICs. With this patch on a 40G NIC the number of calls to alloc_pages and friends went down from about 18% to under 2%. On a 10G NIC the number of calls to alloc_pages and friends went down from about 15% to 0 (perf did not capture any calls during the 60 second test). On a 100G NIC the number of calls to alloc_pages and friends went down from about 23% to 4%. 2021-10-14ethernet: constify references to netdev->dev_addr in driversJakub Kicinski
This big patch sprinkles const on local variables and function arguments which may refer to netdev->dev_addr. Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. Some of the changes here are not strictly required - const is sometimes cast off but pointer is not used for writing. It seems like it's still better to add the const in case the code changes later or relevant -W flags get enabled for the build. No functional changes. 2021-09-09sfc: last resort fallback for lack of xdp tx queuesÍñigo Huguet
Previous patch addressed the situation of having some free resources for xdp tx but not enough for one tx queue per CPU. This patch address the worst case of not having resources at all for xdp tx. Instead of using queues dedicated to xdp, normal queues used by network stack are shared for both cases, using __netif_tx_lock for synchronization. Also queue stop/restart must be considered in the xdp path to avoid freezing the queue. This is not the ideal situation we might want to be, and a performance penalty is expected both for normal and xdp traffic, but at least XDP will work in all possible situations (with a warning in the logs), improving a bit the pain of not knowing in what situations we can use it and in what situations we cannot. If there are not enough resources to allocate one TX queue per core for XDP TX it was completely disabled. This patch implements a fallback solution for sharing the available queues using __netif_tx_lock for synchronization. In the normal case that there is one TX queue per CPU, no locking is done, as it was before. With this fallback solution, XDP TX will work in much more cases that were failing, specially in machines with many CPUs. It's hard for XDP users to know what features are supported across different NICs and configurations, so they will benefit on having wider support. 2020-09-29net: sfc: Replace in_interrupt() usageEdward Cree
efx_ef10_try_update_nic_stats_vf() used in_interrupt() to figure out whether it is safe to sleep (for MCDI) or not. The only caller from which it was not is efx_net_stats(), which can be invoked under dev_base_lock from net-sysfs::netstat_show(). So add a new update_stats_atomic() method to struct efx_nic_type, and call it from efx_net_stats(), removing the need for efx_ef10_try_update_nic_stats_vf() to behave differently for this case (which it wasn't doing correctly anyway). For all nic_types other than EF10 VF, this method is NULL so the the regular update_stats() methods are invoked , which are happy with being called from atomic contexts. This change finally makes the drivers/net/ethernet tree compile with W=1 set on the command line. NOTE: The kernel uses kdoc style (see Documentation/process/kernel-doc.rst) when documenting code, not doxygen or other styles. After this patch the x86_64 build has no warnings from W=1, however scripts/kernel-doc says there are 1545 more warnings in source files, that I need to develop a script to fix in a followup patch. Remove the tx_queue->handle_tso function pointer, and just use tx_queue->tso_version to decide which function to call, thus removing an indirect call from the fast path. Instead of passing a tso_v2 flag to efx_mcdi_tx_init(), set the desired tx_queue->tso_version before calling it. In efx_mcdi_tx_init(), report back failure to obtain a TSOv2 context by setting tx_queue->tso_version to 0, which will cause the TX path to use the GSO-based fallback.
