Commit cc34acd577f1 ("docs: net: document new locking reality") introduced netif_ vs dev_ function semantics: the former expects locked netdev, the latter takes care of the locking. We don't strictly follow this semantics on either side, but there are more dev_xxx handlers now that don't fit. Rename them to netif_xxx where appropriate. netif_close_many is used only by vlan/dsa and one mtk driver, so move it into NETDEV_INTERNAL namespace. We recently changed this from using devm_ioremap() to using devm_ioremap_resource() and unfortunately the former returns NULL while the latter returns error pointers. The check for errors needs to be updated as well. 2025-07-08net: Use of_reserved_mem_region_to_resource{_byname}() for "memory-region"Rob Herring (Arm)
Use the newly added of_reserved_mem_region_to_resource{_byname}() functions to handle "memory-region" properties. The error handling is a bit different for mtk_wed_mcu_load_firmware(). A failed match of the "memory-region-names" would skip the entry, but then other errors in the lookup and retrieval of the address would not skip the entry. However, that distinction is not really important. Either the region is available and usable or it is not. So now, errors from of_reserved_mem_region_to_resource() are ignored so the region is simply skipped. The MediaTek MT7988 SoC comes with an single built-in Ethernet PHY for 2500Base-T/1000Base-T/100Base-TX/10Base-T link partners in addition to the built-in 1GE switch. The built-in PHY only supports full duplex. Add muxes allowing to select GMAC2->2.5G PHY path and add basic support for XGMAC as the built-in 2.5G PHY is internally connected via XGMII. The XGMAC features will also be used by 5GBase-R, 10GBase-R and USXGMII SerDes modes which are going to be added once support for standalone PCS drivers is in place. 2025-04-24net: ethernet: mtk_eth_soc: convert cap_bit in mtk_eth_muxc struct to u64Bo-Cun Chen
With commit 51a4df60db5c2 ("net: ethernet: mtk_eth_soc: convert caps in mtk_soc_data struct to u64") the capabilities bitfield was converted to a 64-bit value, but a cap_bit in struct mtk_eth_muxc which is used to store a full bitfield (rather than the bit number, as the name would suggest) still holds only a 32-bit value. Change the type of cap_bit to u64 in order to avoid truncating the bitfield which results in path selection to not work with capabilities above the 32-bit limit. The values currently stored in the cap_bit field are MTK_ETH_MUX_GDM1_TO_GMAC1_ESW: BIT_ULL(18) | BIT_ULL(5) MTK_ETH_MUX_GMAC2_GMAC0_TO_GEPHY: BIT_ULL(19) | BIT_ULL(5) | BIT_ULL(6) MTK_ETH_MUX_U3_GMAC2_TO_QPHY: BIT_ULL(20) | BIT_ULL(5) | BIT_ULL(6) MTK_ETH_MUX_GMAC1_GMAC2_TO_SGMII_RGMII: BIT_ULL(20) | BIT_ULL(5) | BIT_ULL(7) MTK_ETH_MUX_GMAC12_TO_GEPHY_SGMII: BIT_ULL(21) | BIT_ULL(5) While all those values are currently still within 32-bit boundaries, the addition of new capabilities of MT7988 as well as future SoC's like MT7987 will exceed them. Also, the use of a 32-bit 'int' type to store the result of a BIT_ULL(...) is misleading. 2025-02-27net: ethernet: mtk_ppe_offload: Allow QinQ, double ETH_P_8021Q onlyEric Woudstra
mtk_foe_entry_set_vlan() in mtk_ppe.c already supports double vlan tagging, but mtk_flow_offload_replace() in mtk_ppe_offload.c only allows for 1 vlan tag, optionally in combination with pppoe and dsa tags. However, mtk_foe_entry_set_vlan() only allows for setting the vlan id. The protocol cannot be set, it is always ETH_P_8021Q, for inner and outer tag. This patch adds QinQ support to mtk_flow_offload_replace(), only in the case that both inner and outer tags are ETH_P_8021Q. Only PPPoE-in-Q (as before) and Q-in-Q are allowed. A combination of PPPoE and Q-in-Q is not allowed. For GSO packets, skb_cow_head() will reallocate the skb for TSO header cloned skbs in airoha_dev_xmit(). For this reason, sinfo pointer can be no more valid. Fix the issue relying on skb_shinfo() macro directly in airoha_dev_xmit(). The problem exists since commit 23020f049327 ("net: airoha: Introduce ethernet support for EN7581 SoC") but it is not a user visible, since we can't currently enable TSO for DSA user ports since we are missing to initialize net_device vlan_features field. 2025-01-22net: airoha: Fix wrong GDM4 register definitionChristian Marangi
Fix wrong GDM4 register definition, in Airoha SDK GDM4 is defined at offset 0x2400 but this doesn't make sense as it does conflict with the CDM4 that is in the same location. Following the pattern where each GDM base is at the FWD_CFG, currently GDM4 base offset is set to 0x2500. This is correct but REG_GDM4_FWD_CFG and REG_GDM4_SRC_PORT_SET are still using the SDK reference with the 0x2400 offset. Fix these 2 define by subtracting 0x100 to each register to reflect the real address location. 2025-01-07net: airoha: Add sched HTB offload supportLorenzo Bianconi
Introduce support for HTB Qdisc offload available in the Airoha EN7581 ethernet controller. EN7581 can offload only one level of HTB leafs. Each HTB leaf represents a QoS channel supported by EN7581 SoC. 2024-11-03dim: pass dim_sample to net_dim() by referenceCaleb Sander Mateos
net_dim() is currently passed a struct dim_sample argument by value. struct dim_sample is 24 bytes. Since this is greater 16 bytes, x86-64 passes it on the stack. All callers have already initialized dim_sample on the stack, so passing it by value requires pushing a duplicated copy to the stack. Either witing to the stack and immediately reading it, or perhaps dereferencing addresses relative to the stack pointer in a chain of push instructions, seems to perform quite poorly. In a heavy TCP workload, mlx5e_handle_rx_dim() consumes 3% of CPU time, 94% of which is attributed to the first push instruction to copy dim_sample on the stack for the call to net_dim(): // Call ktime_get() 0.26 |4ead2: call 4ead7 <mlx5e_handle_rx_dim+0x47> // Pass the address of struct dim in %rdi |4ead7: lea 0x3d0(%rbx),%rdi // Set dim_sample.pkt_ctr |4eade: mov %r13d,0x8(%rsp) // Set dim_sample.byte_ctr |4eae3: mov %r12d,0xc(%rsp) // Set dim_sample.event_ctr 0.15 |4eae8: mov %bp,0x10(%rsp) // Duplicate dim_sample on the stack 94.16 |4eaed: push 0x10(%rsp) 2.79 |4eaf1: push 0x10(%rsp) 0.07 |4eaf5: push %rax // Call net_dim() 0.21 |4eaf6: call 4eafb <mlx5e_handle_rx_dim+0x6b> To allow the caller to reuse the struct dim_sample already on the stack, pass the struct dim_sample by reference to net_dim().
