2025-04-28net: tulip: Use pure PCI devres APIPhilipp Stanner
The currently used function pci_request_regions() is one of the problematic "hybrid devres" PCI functions, which are sometimes managed through devres, and sometimes not (depending on whether pci_enable_device() or pcim_enable_device() has been called before). The PCI subsystem wants to remove this behavior and, therefore, needs to port all users to functions that don't have this problem. Replace pci_request_regions() with pcim_request_all_regions(). 2025-04-05treewide: Switch/rename to timer_delete[_sync]()Thomas Gleixner

2021-10-14net: tulip: winbond-840: fix build for UMLRandy Dunlap
On i386, when builtin (not a loadable module), the winbond-840 driver inspects boot_cpu_data to see what CPU family it is running on, and then acts on that data. The "family" struct member (x86) does not exist when running on UML, so prevent that test and do the default action. 2021-10-14ethernet: replace netdev->dev_addr 16bit writesJakub Kicinski
Commit 406f42fa0d3c ("net-next: When a bond have a massive amount of VLANs...") introduced a rbtree for faster Ethernet address look up. To maintain netdev->dev_addr in this tree we need to make all the writes to it got through appropriate helpers. This patch takes care of drivers which cast netdev->dev_addr to a 16bit type, often with an explicit byte order. 2021-07-27dev_ioctl: split out ndo_eth_ioctlArnd Bergmann
Most users of ndo_do_ioctl are ethernet drivers that implement the MII commands SIOCGMIIPHY/SIOCGMIIREG/SIOCSMIIREG, or hardware timestamping with SIOCSHWTSTAMP/SIOCGHWTSTAMP. Separate these from the few drivers that use ndo_do_ioctl to implement SIOCBOND, SIOCBR and SIOCWANDEV commands. This is a purely cosmetic change intended to help readers find their way through the implementation. The wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h should go away. The patch has been generated with the coccinelle script below and has been hand modified to replace GFP_ with a correct flag. It has been compile tested. When memory is allocated in 'alloc_ringdesc()' GFP_KERNEL can be used because it is only called from 'netdev_open()' which is a '.ndo_open' function. 2020-06-23tulip: windbond-840: use generic power managementVaibhav Gupta
With stable support of generic PM callbacks, drivers no longer need to use legacy .suspend() and .resume() in which they had to maintain PCI states changes and device's power state themselves. Earlier, .resume() was invoking pci_enable_device(). Drivers should not call PCI legacy helper functions, hence, it was removed. This should not change the behavior of the device as this function is called by PCI core if somehow pm_ops is not able to bind with the driver, else, required tasks are managed by the core itself. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. This is the last remaining warning for arm64, and I'd like to get rid of it. We don't really know the cache line size, architecturally it would be at least 16 bytes, but all implementations I found have 64 or 128 bytes. Configuring tulip for 32-byte lines as we do on ARM32 seems to be the safe but slow default, and nobody who cares about performance these days would use a tulip chip anyway, so we can just use that. To save the next person the job of trying to find out what this is for and picking a default for their architecture just to kill off the warning, I'm now removing the preprocessor #warning and turning it into a pr_warn or dev_warn that prints the equivalent information when the driver gets loaded. ARM has 32-byte cache lines, which according to the comment in the init registers function seems to work best with the default value of 0x4800 that is also used on sparc and parisc. This adds ARM to the same list, to use that default but no longer warn about it. The __dev* removal patches for the network drivers ended up messing up the function prototypes for a bunch of drivers. This patch fixes all of them back up to be properly aligned.
