2025-04-23PCI: Add CONFIG_MMU dependencyArnd Bergmann
It turns out that there are no platforms that have PCI but don't have an MMU, so adding a Kconfig dependency on CONFIG_PCI simplifies build testing kernels for those platforms a lot, and avoids a lot of inadvertent build regressions. Add a dependency for CONFIG_PCI and remove all the ones for PCI specific device drivers that are currently marked not having it. There are a few platforms that have an optional MMU, but they usually cannot have PCI at all. The one exception is Coldfire MCF54xx, but this is mainly for historic reasons, and anyone using those chips should really use the MMU these days. 2023-02-01bnxt_en: Add auxiliary driver supportAjit Khaparde
Add auxiliary driver support. An auxiliary device will be created if the hardware indicates support for RDMA. The bnxt_ulp_probe() function has been removed and a new bnxt_rdma_aux_device_add() function has been added. The bnxt_free_msix_vecs() and bnxt_req_msix_vecs() will now hold the RTNL lock when they call the bnxt_close_nic()and bnxt_open_nic() since the device close and open need to be protected under RTNL lock. The operations between the bnxt_en and bnxt_re will be protected using the en_ops_lock. This will be used by the bnxt_re driver in a follow-on patch to create ROCE interfaces. ARCH_BCM2835 commit 8d820bc9d12b ("net: broadcom: Fix BCMGENET Kconfig") fixes the build that contain 99addbe31f55 ("net: broadcom: Select BROADCOM_PHY for BCMGENET") and enable BCMGENET=y but PTP_1588_CLOCK_OPTIONAL=m, which otherwise leads to a link failure. However this may trigger a runtime failure. Fix the original issue by propagating the PTP_1588_CLOCK_OPTIONAL dependency of BROADCOM_PHY down to BCMGENET. The 'imply' keyword does not do what most people think it does, it only politely asks Kconfig to turn on another symbol, but does not prevent it from being disabled manually or built as a loadable module when the user is built-in. I'm providing a link to the previous email thread for reference, which discusses some related problems. To solve the dependency issue better than the 'imply' keyword, introduce a separate Kconfig symbol "CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK_OPTIONAL" that any driver can depend on if it is able to use PTP support when available, but works fine without it. Whenever CONFIG_PTP_1588_CLOCK=m, those drivers are then prevented from being built-in, the same way as with a 'depends on PTP_1588_CLOCK || !PTP_1588_CLOCK' dependency that does the same trick, but that can be rather confusing when you first see it. Since this should cover the dependencies correctly, the IS_REACHABLE() hack in the header is no longer needed now, and can be turned back into a normal IS_ENABLED() check. Any driver that gets the dependency wrong will now cause a link time failure rather than being unable to use PTP support when that is in a loadable module. However, the two recently added ptp_get_vclocks_index() and ptp_convert_timestamp() interfaces are only called from builtin code with ethtool and socket timestamps, so keep the current behavior by stubbing those out completely when PTP is in a loadable module. This should be addressed properly in a follow-up. As Richard suggested, we may want to actually turn PTP support into a 'bool' option later on, preventing it from being a loadable module altogether, which would be one way to solve the problem with the ethtool interface. The driver registers eswitch mode get/set methods with the devlink interface that allow a user to enable SRIOV switchdev mode. When enabled, the driver registers a VF-rep netdev object for each VF with the stack. This can essentially bring the VFs unders the management perview of the hypervisor and applications such as OVS. In order to break the hard dependency between the PTP clock subsystem and ethernet drivers capable of being clock providers, this patch provides simple PTP stub functions to allow linkage of those drivers into the kernel even when the PTP subsystem is configured out. Drivers must be ready to accept NULL from ptp_clock_register() in that case. And to make it possible for PTP to be configured out, the select statement in those driver's Kconfig menu entries is converted to the new "imply" statement. This way the PTP subsystem may have Kconfig dependencies of its own, such as POSIX_TIMERS, without having to make those ethernet drivers unavailable if POSIX timers are cconfigured out. And when support for POSIX timers is selected again then the default config option for PTP clock support will automatically be adjusted accordingly. The pch_gbe driver is a bit special as it relies on extra code in drivers/ptp/ptp_pch.c. Therefore we let the make process descend into drivers/ptp/ even if PTP_1588_CLOCK is unselected. 2016-01-29net: bgmac: clarify CONFIG_BCMA dependencyArnd Bergmann
The bgmac driver depends on BCMA_HOST_SOC, which is only used when CONFIG_BCMA is enabled. However, it is a bool option and can be set when CONFIG_BCMA=m, and then bgmac can be built-in, leading to an obvious link error: drivers/built-in.o: In function `bgmac_init': :(.init.text+0x7f2c): undefined reference to `__bcma_driver_register' drivers/built-in.o: In function `bgmac_exit': :(.exit.text+0x110a): undefined reference to `bcma_driver_unregister' To avoid this case, we need to depend on both BCMA and BCMA_SOC, as this patch does. I'm also trying to make the dependency more readable by splitting it into three lines, and adding a COMPILE_TEST alternative so we can test-build it in all configurations that support BCMA. The added dependency on FIXED_PHY addresses a related issue where we cannot call fixed_phy_register() when CONFIG_FIXED_PHY=m and CONFIG_BGMAC=y. Latest FW submission added some vxlan offload capabilities to our device. This patch adds the ability to connect to the vxlan NDOs and configure the UDP port associated with it in the HW. The device would now be capable of performing RSS according to the inner headers of the vxlan packets.
