2024-07-08mmc: sdhi: Convert from tasklet to BH workqueueAllen Pais
The only generic interface to execute asynchronously in the BH context is tasklet; however, it's marked deprecated and has some design flaws. To replace tasklets, BH workqueue support was recently added. A BH workqueue behaves similarly to regular workqueues except that the queued work items are executed in the BH context. This patch converts the SDHI driver from tasklet to BH workqueue. 2024-03-05mmc: tmio: avoid concurrent runs of mmc_request_done()Wolfram Sang
With the to-be-fixed commit, the reset_work handler cleared 'host->mrq' outside of the spinlock protected critical section. That leaves a small race window during execution of 'tmio_mmc_reset()' where the done_work handler could grab a pointer to the now invalid 'host->mrq'. Both would use it to call mmc_request_done() causing problems (see link below). However, 'host->mrq' cannot simply be cleared earlier inside the critical section. That would allow new mrqs to come in asynchronously while the actual reset of the controller still needs to be done. So, like 'tmio_mmc_set_ios()', an ERR_PTR is used to prevent new mrqs from coming in but still avoiding concurrency between work handlers. After a8402aed8ca5 ("mmc: tmio_mmc_core: Remove local_irq_{save,restore}() around k[un]map_atomic()") and ac91578a6812 ("mmc: tmio_mmc_core: Replace kmap_atomic() with kmap_local_page()"), the helpers contain just a single call. Putting it directly in the code makes it actually more readable. More so, because we now avoid the 'offset' calculation when mapping/unmapping and just use it when we need it in the copy routines. 2022-12-07mmc: tmio_mmc_core: Remove local_irq_{save,restore}() around k[un]map_atomic()Adrian Hunter
A long time ago the kmap_atomic API required a slot to be provided which risked the possibility that other code might use the same slot at the same time. Disabling interrupts prevented the possibility of an interrupt handler doing that. However, that went away with commit 3e4d3af501cc ("mm: stack based kmap_atomic()"). When the second argument to kmap_atomic was removed by commit 482fce997e14 ("mmc: remove the second argument of k[un]map_atomic()"), local_irq_{save,restore}() should have been removed also. Remove it now. If we reset because of an error, we need to preserve values for the clock frequency. Otherwise, glitches may be seen on the bus. To achieve that, we introduce a 'preserve' parameter to the reset function and the IP core specific reset callbacks to handle everything accordingly. 2021-04-15mmc: tmio: always restore irq registerWolfram Sang
Currently, only SDHI on R-Car Gen2+ reinitializes the irq register during reset but it should be done on all instances. We can move it from the SDHI driver to the TMIO core, because we now have the 'sd_irq_mask_all' variable which carries the proper value to use. That also means we can remove the initialization from tmio_mmc_probe() because it calls tmio_mmc_reset(), too. We only move that tmio_mmc_reset() call there a little to ensure 'sd_irq_mask_all' is properly set. RPM handling has been improved twice since this comment, and also SCC handling has been improved a lot. 2021-02-01mmc: tmio: Add data timeout error detectionMasaharu Hayakawa
Currently, busy timeout is not checked for data transfer command. But, if the temperature condition changes, the data cannot be acquired correctly and timeout may occur. Also, we could reproduce an issue by using mmc_test driver (e.g. "Correct xfer_size at write (start failure)"). Therefore, this adds timeout error check. Set max_busy_timeouts for variants known to support the TOPxx bits in the SD_OPTION register. The timeout mechanism was running in the background but not yet properly handled in the driver. So, let the MMC core know when to not use R1B to avoid unhandled timeouts. My datasheets for older variants (tmio_mmc.c) suggest that they support it, too. However, actual bit descriptions are lacking, so I chose an opt-in approach. When powering off a card, we need to disable the tuning HW (like SCC for the Renesas SDHI) to get to a sane state and allow for re-tuning new cards. This was hidden before because we wrongly did that in hw_reset() before which was an unintended use of hw_reset(). Some TMIO variants need specific actions in their reset routine, but they are all based on a generic reset routine. So, the optional 'reset' callback will now only take care of the additional stuff and we will have a generic function around it. Less code, easier to maintain, and much more readable. Code in tmio_mmc.c is untested but in my TC6387XB datasheet the SDIO part is reset independently from the SD part, too. This reverts commit a87852c6b8827b7fece78ae57d871d56e4348e30. It did fix the issue, but was building on top of already wrong assumptions. The driver missed that 'hw_reset' was only for resetting remote HW (card) and not for the IP core. Since we fixed that in a previous patch, we can now remove this patch to make it clear that 'reset' is for resetting the IP core only. Also, cancelling DMA will only be called when actually needed again. It will also allow for further cleanups and better readability. Note that in addition to the revert, the call in 'tmio_mmc_execute_tuning' will be converted, too, to maintain the current behaviour. 2020-05-28mmc: tmio: Make sure the PM domain is 'started' while probingUlf Hansson
If the tmio device is attached to a genpd (PM domain), that genpd may have ->start|stop() callback assigned to it. To make sure the device is accessible during ->probe(), genpd's ->start() callback must be invoked, which is currently managed by tmio_mmc_host_probe(). However, it's likely that may be too late for some cases, as registers may be read and written way before that point. To fix the behaviour, let's move the call to dev_pm_domain_start() from tmio_mmc_host_probe() into those clients that needs it. From discussions at linux-mmc mailing list, it turned out that it should be sufficient to do this for the SDHI renesas variants, hence the call is move to renesas_sdhi_probe(). 2020-05-28mmc: tmio: Further fixup runtime PM management at removeUlf Hansson
Before calling tmio_mmc_host_probe(), the caller is required to enable clocks for its device, as to make it accessible when reading/writing registers during probe. Therefore, the responsibility to disable these clocks, in the error path of ->probe() and during ->remove(), is better managed outside tmio_mmc_host_remove(). As a matter of fact, callers of tmio_mmc_host_remove() already expects this to be the behaviour. However, there's a problem with tmio_mmc_host_remove() when the Kconfig option, CONFIG_PM, is set. More precisely, tmio_mmc_host_remove() may then disable the clock via runtime PM, which leads to clock enable/disable imbalance problems, when the caller of tmio_mmc_host_remove() also tries to disable the same clocks. To solve the problem, let's make sure tmio_mmc_host_remove() leaves the device with clocks enabled, but also make sure to disable the IRQs, as we normally do at ->runtime_suspend().
