2025-07-13iio: adc: ad7124: Use separate structures rather than array for chip infoDavid Lechner
Change the ad7124 driver to use individual chip info structures instead of an array. This reduces the verbosity of the code. Also, the data is now const as it should have been in the first place. 2025-04-22iio: adc: ad7124: Make register naming consistentUwe Kleine-König
Cleanup definition of register related constants: - Use the register and field names exactly as documented in the data sheet. - Consistently use <regname>_<bitfield> to name a register's bitfield. - Drop _MSK definitions and implicit FIELD_PREP calls. - Consistent indentation. 2025-04-22iio: adc: ad7124: Remove ability to write filter_low_pass_3db_frequencyUwe Kleine-König
There are several issues with the function that implements writing to the filter_low_pass_3db_frequency property: - The sinc3 factor should be 0.272 not 0.262 (this is fixed for the reading side in the previous patch). - For freq > 1 the if condition is always true so the sinc4 filter is hardly ever chosen. - In the nearly always taken if branch the filter is set to sinc3, but the frequency is set for sinc4. (And vice versa in the else branch.) This is broken enough to justify the claim that there isn't any serious user. Also it it counter-intuitive that setting the 3db frequency modifies the sample frequency and the filter type. So drop the ability to write that property. 2025-03-11iio: adc: ad7124: Fix comparison of channel configsUwe Kleine-König
Checking the binary representation of two structs (of the same type) for equality doesn't have the same semantic as comparing all members for equality. The former might find a difference where the latter doesn't in the presence of padding or when ambiguous types like float or bool are involved. (Floats typically have different representations for single values, like -0.0 vs +0.0, or 0.5 * 2² vs 0.25 * 2³. The type bool has at least 8 bits and the raw values 1 and 2 (probably) both evaluate to true, but memcmp finds a difference.) When searching for a channel that already has the configuration we need, the comparison by member is the one that is needed. Convert the comparison accordingly to compare the members one after another. Also add a static_assert guard to (somewhat) ensure that when struct ad7124_channel_config::config_props is expanded, the comparison is adapted, too. This issue is somewhat theoretic, but using memcmp() on a struct is a bad pattern that is worth fixing. 2025-02-08iio: adc: ad7124: Really disable all channels at probe timeUwe Kleine-König
If one or more of the 16 channels are enabled and the driver is not aware of that, unexpected things happen because different channels are used than intended. To prevent that, all channels should be disabled at probe time. In Commit 4be339af334c ("iio: adc: ad7124: Disable all channels at probe time") I intended do that, however only the channels that are potentially used by the driver and not all channels are disabled since then. So disable all 16 channels and not only the used ones. Also fix the same issue in the .disable_all() callback. 2025-02-08iio: adc: ad7124: Micro-optimize channel disablingUwe Kleine-König
The key objective in ad7124_disable_one() is clearing the AD7124_CHANNEL_EN_MSK bit in the channel register. However there is no advantage to keep the other bits in that register because when the channel is used next time, all fields are rewritten anyhow. So instead of using ad7124_spi_write_mask() (which is a register read plus a register write) use a simple register write clearing the complete register. Also do the same in the .disable_all() callback by using the .disable_one() callback there. 2024-12-11iio: adc: ad_sigma_delta: Store information about reset sequence lengthUwe Kleine-König
The various chips can be reset using a sequence of SPI transfers with MOSI = 1. The length of such a sequence varies from chip to chip. Store that length in struct ad_sigma_delta_info and replace the respective parameter to ad_sd_reset() with it. Note the ad7192 used to pass 48 as length but the documentation specifies 40 as the required length. Assuming the latter is right. (Using a too long sequence doesn't hurt apart from using a longer spi transfer than necessary, so this is no relevant fix.) The motivation for storing this information is that this is useful to clear a pending R̅D̅Y̅ signal in the next change. 2024-12-11iio: adc: ad7124: Refuse invalid input specifiersUwe Kleine-König
The ad7124-4 has 8 analog inputs; the input select values 8 to 15 are reserved and not to be used. These are fine for ad7124-8. For both ad7124-4 and ad7124-8 values bigger than 15 are internal channels that might appear as inputs in the channels specified in the device description according to the description of commit f1794fd7bdf7 ("iio: adc: ad7124: Remove input number limitation"), values bigger than 31 don't fit into the respective register bit field and the driver masked them to smaller values. 2024-12-11iio: adc: ad7124: Don't create more channels than the driver can handleUwe Kleine-König
The ad7124-4 and ad7124-8 both support 16 channel registers and assigns each channel defined in dt statically such a register. While the driver could be a bit more clever about this, it currently isn't and specifying more than 16 channels yields broken behaviour. So just refuse to bind in this situation. 2024-12-07iio: adc: ad7124: Disable all channels at probe timeUwe Kleine-König
When during a measurement two channels are enabled, two measurements are done that are reported sequencially in the DATA register. As the code triggered by reading one of the sysfs properties expects that only one channel is enabled it only reads the first data set which might or might not belong to the intended channel. To prevent this situation disable all channels during probe. This fixes a problem in practise because the reset default for channel 0 is enabled. So all measurements before the first measurement on channel 0 (which disables channel 0 at the end) might report wrong values. This is a frequent minor comment in reviews, so start cleaning up existing drivers in the hope we get fewer cases of cut and paste. There are not kernel wide rules for these, but for IIO the style that I prefer (and hence most common) is: - Space after { and before } - No comma after terminator { } This may cause merge conflicts but they should be trivial to resolve hence I have not broken this into per driver patches. 2024-08-03iio: adc: ad7124: set initial ADC mode to idleDumitru Ceclan
During setup the st->adc_control is 0, which corresponds to a continuous conversion mode. The reset value for channel 1 is to enable it. https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jic23/iio into char-misc-next Jonathan writes: First set of new device support, fixes, cleanups and features for IIO in 5.18 This cycle we had quite a few series that applied similar changes to lots of drivers. To keep this description manageable I have called those out in their own section rather than per driver. Particularly pleased to see the long running AFE precision series going in this cycle. Series includes some late breaking fixes. New device support * adi,ada4250 amplifier - New driver and dt bindings for this programmable gain amplifier. * adi,admv1014 microwave down-converter - New driver, dt bindings and some device specific ABI that may be generalized as more drivers for devices similar to this are added. * adi,admv4420 K Band down-converter. - New driver and dt bindings. * adi,adxl367 accelerometer driver. - New driver, dt-bindings + some new IIO ABI definitions to support reference magnitude events where an estimate of the acceleration due to gravity has been removed. - A few fixes as follow up patches. * adi,ltc2688 DAC with toggle and dither modes. - New driver and bindings. Includes some new driver specific (for now) ABI for handling toggle mode and the addition of a dither waveform to the DAC output. * AFE (analog front end) add support for additional types of analog device in front of an ADC. - RTD temperature sensors with dt bindings. - Temperature transducers wit dt bindings. - Related cleanup and features listed in other sections below. * maxim,ds3502 potentiometer. - Add support to ds1803 driver which required significant rework. * mediatek,mt2701-auxadc driver - Add mediatek,mt8186-auxadc - id table and chip specific info only. * semtech,sx9324, semtech,ax9360 - Substantial refactoring of sx9310 to extract core logic for reuse into a separate module - New driver using this supporting sx9324 proximity sensors. - New driver using this supporting sx9360 proximity sensors. * silan,sc7a20 - Compatible with the st,lis2dh (or nearly anyway) so add ID and chip specific info to enable support. Also silan vendor ID added for dt-bindings. Staging graduation * adi,ad7280a monitoring ADC for stacked lithium-ion batteries in electric cars and similar. - Substantial rework of driver required to bring inline with current IIO best practice. An unusual device in IIO so some interesting features we may see more of in future. Multiple driver/core cleanup - Use sysfs_emit() in simple locations where there is no path to change to various core created attributes. - Trivial white space fixes around inconsistency between space after { and before } in id tables. - Introduce new handling for fractional types to avoid repeated similar implementations. Use this in 3 drivers. Note this is also targeted at future use in the AFE driver and was motivated by discussions around the precision related work on that driver. - of related header cleanups - drop of*.h and add mod_devicetable.h as appropriate. - Move a number of symbol exports into IIO_* namespaces. Two categories, 1) Library used by multiple drivers e.g. st_sensors 2) Core driver module exporting functions used by bus specific modules. A few related cleanups in this set. - Switch from CONFIG_PM_* guards to new DEFINE_SIMPLE_DEV_PM_OPS() and similar to simplify drivers and take advantage of these new macros allowing the compiler to do the job or removing unused code without the need for __maybe_unused markings. Conversion of other drivers to these new macros ongoing. Features * adi,adf4350 - Switch from of specific to generic device properties enabling use with other firmware types. * adi,adx345 - Switch from of specific to generic device properties. - Add ACPI ID ADS0345 - Related driver cleanup. * adi,hmc425a - Switch from of specific to generic device properties. * afe analog rescaler driver - Wider range of types supported for scale. - Support offset. - Kunit tests. * atlas,ezo-sensor - Convert from of to device properties. * fsl,mma8452 - Support mount matrix. * infineon,dps310: - Add ACPI ID IFX3100. * invensense,mpu6050 - Convert to generic device properties. * maxim,ds1803 - Add out_raw_available before supporting more devices. - Convert from of specific to device properties. * samsung,ssp_sensors - Convert from of specific to device properties. * st,stm32-timer trigger - Convert from of specific to device properties. * ti,hdc101x - Add ACPI ID TXNW1010. * ti,tsc2046: - Add read_raw support to enable use of iio_hwmon and similar. Use dev_to_iio_dev() instead. Note the original path in here worked more by luck than design. * invensense,mpu6050 - Drop ACPI_PTR() protection to avoid an unused warning. - Use fact ACPI_COMPANION() returns null when ACPI_HANDLE() does to simplify handling. * motorola,cpcap-adc - Drop unused assignment. * qcom,spmi-adc - Fix wrong example of 'reg' in binding document. * renesas,rzg2l-adc - Trivial typo fix. * semtech,sx9360 - Fix wrong register handling for event generation. * st_sensors - Allow manual disabling of I2C or SPI module if not needed for a particular board. 2021-05-13iio: adc: ad7124: Fix potential overflow due to non sequential channel numbersJonathan Cameron
Channel numbering must start at 0 and then not have any holes, or it is possible to overflow the available storage. Note this bug was introduced as part of a fix to ensure we didn't rely on the ordering of child nodes. So we need to support arbitrary ordering but they all need to be there somewhere. Note I hit this when using qemu to test the rest of this series. Arguably this isn't the best fix, but it is probably the most minimal option for backporting etc. Alexandru's sign-off is here because he carried this patch in a larger set that Jonathan then applied. 2021-03-25iio: adc: ad7124: allow more than 8 channelsAlexandru Tachici
Currently AD7124-8 driver cannot use more than 8 IIO channels because it was assigning the channel configurations bijectively to channels specified in the device-tree. This is not possible to do when using more than 8 channels as AD7124-8 has only 8 configuration registers. To allow the user to use all channels at once the driver will keep in memory configurations for all channels but will program only 8 of them at a time on the device. If multiple channels have the same configuration, only one configuration register will be used. If there are more configurations than available registers only the last 8 used configurations will be allowed to exist on the device in a LRU fashion. 2020-07-22iio: adc: ad7124: move chip ID & name on the chip_info tableAlexandru Ardelean
This change does the following: * removes the SPI device table in favor of the OF device table * adds 'name' && 'chip_id' fields to chip_info * implements chip ID & silicon revision checking; the device ID for AD7124-4 is 0x0, so just checking that value can be useless; but at least the silicon revision isn't 0, so a non-zero value can be used to check that "a" device is on the SPI bus; it's probably the best way to narrow it down to one of the 2 AD7124 chip IDs Signed-off-by: Alexandru Ardelean <alexandru.ardelean@analog.com> Signed-off-by: Jonathan Cameron <Jonathan.Cameron@huawei.com>
2020-06-14iio: remove explicit IIO device parent assignmentAlexandru Ardelean
This patch applies the semantic patch: @@ expression I, P, SP; @@ I = devm_iio_device_alloc(P, SP); ... - I->dev.parent = P; It updates 302 files and does 307 deletions. This semantic patch also removes some comments like '/* Establish that the iio_dev is a child of the i2c device */' But this is is only done in case where the block is left empty. The patch does not seem to cover all cases. It looks like in some cases a different variable is used in some cases to assign the parent, but it points to the same reference. In other cases, the block covered by ... may be just too big to be covered by the semantic patch. However, this looks pretty good as well, as it does cover a big bulk of the drivers that should remove the parent assignment. 2020-01-18iio: adc: ad7124: Set IRQ type to fallingAlexandru Tachici
Ad7124 data-sheet specifies that the falling edge of the DOUT line should be used for an interrupt. The current irq flag (IRQF_TRIGGER_LOW) used will cause unwanted behaviour. When enabling the interrupt it will fire once because the DOUT line is already low. This will make the driver to read an unfinished conversion from the chip.
