2025-06-09drm/msm: Temporarily disable stall-on-fault after a page faultConnor Abbott
When things go wrong, the GPU is capable of quickly generating millions of faulting translation requests per second. When that happens, in the stall-on-fault model each access will stall until it wins the race to signal the fault and then the RESUME register is written. This slows processing page faults to a crawl as the GPU can generate faults much faster than the CPU can acknowledge them. It also means that all available resources in the SMMU are saturated waiting for the stalled transactions, so that other transactions such as transactions generated by the GMU, which shares translation resources with the GPU, cannot proceed. This causes a GMU watchdog timeout, which leads to a failed reset because GX cannot collapse when there is a transaction pending and a permanently hung GPU. On older platforms with qcom,smmu-v2, it seems that when one transaction is stalled subsequent faulting transactions are terminated, which avoids this problem, but the MMU-500 follows the spec here. To work around these problems, disable stall-on-fault as soon as we get a page fault until a cooldown period after pagefaults stop. This allows the GMU some guaranteed time to continue working. We only use stall-on-fault to halt the GPU while we collect a devcoredump and we always terminate the transaction afterward, so it's fine to miss some subsequent page faults. We also keep it disabled so long as the current devcoredump hasn't been deleted, because in that case we likely won't capture another one if there's a fault. After this commit HFI messages still occasionally time out, because the crashdump handler doesn't run fast enough to let the GMU resume, but the driver seems to recover from it. This will probably go away after the HFI timeout is increased. Really the only purpose of this was to limit the address space size to 4GB to avoid 32b rollover problems in 64b pointer math in older sqe fw. So replace the address_space_size with a quirk limiting the address space to 4GB. 2025-01-03drm/msm: adreno: find bandwidth index of OPP and set it along freq indexNeil Armstrong
The Adreno GPU Management Unit (GMU) can also scale the DDR Bandwidth along the Frequency and Power Domain level, until now we left the OPP core scale the OPP bandwidth via the interconnect path. In order to enable bandwidth voting via the GPU Management Unit (GMU), when an opp is set by devfreq we also look for the corresponding bandwidth index in the previously generated bw_table and pass this value along the frequency index to the GMU. The GMU also takes another vote called AB which is a 16bit quantized value of the floor bandwidth against the maximum supported bandwidth. The AB is calculated with a default 25% of the bandwidth like the downstream implementation too inform the GMU firmware the minimal quantity of bandwidth we require for this OPP. Only pass the AB vote starting from A750 GPUs. Since we now vote for all resources via the GMU, setting the OPP is no more needed, so we can completely skip calling dev_pm_opp_set_opp() in this situation. 2023-10-09drm/msm/a6xx: Add skeleton A7xx supportKonrad Dybcio
A7xx GPUs are - from kernel's POV anyway - basically another generation of A6xx. They build upon the A650/A660_family advancements, skipping some writes (presumably more values are preset correctly on reset), adding some new ones and changing others. One notable difference is the introduction of a second shadow, called BV. To handle this with the current code, allocate it right after the current RPTR shadow. BV handling and .submit are mostly based on Jonathan Marek's work. All A7xx GPUs are assumed to have a GMU. A702 is not an A7xx-class GPU, it's a weird forked A610. 2023-06-18drm/msm/a6xx: Add A610 supportKonrad Dybcio
A610 is one of (if not the) lowest-tier SKUs in the A6XX family. It features no GMU, as it's implemented solely on SoCs with SMD_RPM. What's more interesting is that it does not feature a VDDGX line either, being powered solely by VDDCX and has an unfortunate hardware quirk that makes its reset line broken - after a couple of assert/ deassert cycles, it will hang for good and will not wake up again. This GPU requires mesa changes for proper rendering, and lots of them at that. The command streams are quite far away from any other A6XX GPU and hence it needs special care. This patch was validated both by running an (incomplete) downstream mesa with some hacks (frames rendered correctly, though some instructions made the GPU hangcheck which is expected - garbage in, garbage out) and by replaying RD traces captured with the downstream KGSL driver - no crashes there, ever. Add support for this GPU on the kernel side, which comes down to pretty simply adding A612 HWCG tables, altering a few values and adding a special case for handling the reset line. 2023-06-18drm/msm/a6xx: Introduce GMU wrapper supportKonrad Dybcio
Some (particularly SMD_RPM, a.k.a non-RPMh) SoCs implement A6XX GPUs but don't implement the associated GMUs. This is due to the fact that the GMU directly pokes at RPMh. Sadly, this means we have to take care of enabling & scaling power rails, clocks and bandwidth ourselves. Reuse existing Adreno-common code and modify the deeply-GMU-infused A6XX code to facilitate these GPUs. This involves if-ing out lots of GMU callbacks and introducing a new type of GMU - GMU wrapper (it's the actual name that Qualcomm uses in their downstream kernels). This is essentially a register region which is convenient to model as a device. We'll use it for managing the GDSCs. The register layout matches the actual GMU_CX/GX regions on the "real GMU" devices and lets us reuse quite a bit of gmu_read/write/rmw calls. 2023-06-18drm/msm/adreno: Use adreno_is_revn for A690Konrad Dybcio
The adreno_is_revn rework came at the same time as A690 introduction and that resulted in it not covering all cases. Fix it. Signed-off-by: Konrad Dybcio <konrad.dybcio@linaro.org> Patchwork: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/542754/ Signed-off-by: Rob Clark <robdclark@chromium.org>
2023-06-15drm/msm/adreno: make adreno_is_a690()'s argument constDmitry Baryshkov
Change adreno_is_a690() prototype to accept the const struct adreno_gpu pointer instead of a non-const one. This fixes the following warning: In file included from drivers/gpu/drm/msm/msm_drv.c:33: drivers/gpu/drm/msm/adreno/adreno_gpu.h: In function ‘adreno_is_a660_family’: drivers/gpu/drm/msm/adreno/adreno_gpu.h:303:54: warning: passing argument 1 of ‘adreno_is_a690’ discards ‘const’ qualifier from pointer target type [-Wdiscarded-qualifiers] 303 | return adreno_is_a660(gpu) || adreno_is_a690(gpu) || adreno_is_7c3(gpu); Fixes: 1b90e8f8879c ("drm/msm/adreno: change adreno_is_* functions to accept const argument") Signed-off-by: Dmitry Baryshkov <dmitry.baryshkov@linaro.org> Reviewed-by: Rob Clark <robdclark@gmail.com> Reviewed-by: Douglas Anderson <dianders@chromium.org> Patchwork: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/542138/ Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20230612182527.3345786-1-dmitry.baryshkov@linaro.org
2023-06-10drm/msm/adreno: change adreno_is_* functions to accept const argumentDmitry Baryshkov
All adreno_is_*() functions do not modify their argument in any way, so they can be changed to accept const struct adreno_gpu pointer. 2023-06-10drm/msm/adreno: warn if chip revn is verified before being setDmitry Baryshkov
The commit 010c8bbad2cb ("drm: msm: adreno: Disable preemption on Adreno 510") tried to check GPU's revn before revn being set. Add WARN_ON_ONCE to prevent such bugs from happening again. A separate helper is necessary so that the warning is displayed really just once instead of being displayed for each of comparisons.
