2025-05-23drm: convert many bridge drivers from devm_kzalloc() to ↵Luca Ceresoli
devm_drm_bridge_alloc() API devm_drm_bridge_alloc() is the new API to be used for allocating (and partially initializing) a private driver struct embedding a struct drm_bridge. For many drivers having a simple code flow in the probe function, this commit does a mass conversion automatically with the following semantic patch. The changes have been reviewed manually for correctness as well as to find any false positives. The patch has been applied with the explicit exclusion of bridge/panel.c, handled by a separate patch. After applying the semantic patch, manually fixed these issues: - 4 drivers need ERR_CAST() instead of PTR_ERR() as the function calling devm_drm_bridge_alloc() returns a pointer - re-added empty lines and comments that the script had removed but that should stay @@ type T; identifier C; identifier BR; expression DEV; expression FUNCS; @@ -T *C; +T *C; ... 2025-04-22drm/meson: use unsigned long long / Hz for frequency typesMartin Blumenstingl
Christian reports that 4K output using YUV420 encoding fails with the following error: Fatal Error, invalid HDMI vclk freq 593406 Modetest shows the following: 3840x2160 59.94 3840 4016 4104 4400 2160 2168 2178 2250 593407 flags: xxxx, xxxx, drm calculated value -------------------------------------^ This indicates that there's a (1kHz) mismatch between the clock calculated by the drm framework and the meson driver. Relevant function call stack: (drm framework) -> meson_encoder_hdmi_atomic_enable() -> meson_encoder_hdmi_set_vclk() -> meson_vclk_setup() The video clock requested by the drm framework is 593407kHz. This is passed by meson_encoder_hdmi_atomic_enable() to meson_encoder_hdmi_set_vclk() and the following formula is applied: - the frequency is halved (which would be 296703.5kHz) and rounded down to the next full integer, which is 296703kHz - TMDS clock is calculated (296703kHz * 10) - video encoder clock is calculated - this needs to match a table from meson_vclk.c and so it doubles the previously halved value again (resulting in 593406kHz) - meson_vclk_setup() can't find (either directly, or by deriving it from 594000kHz * 1000 / 1001 and rounding to the closest integer value - which is 593407kHz as originally requested by the drm framework) a matching clock in it's internal table and errors out with "invalid HDMI vclk freq" Fix the division precision by switching the whole meson driver to use unsigned long long (64-bit) Hz values for clock frequencies instead of unsigned int (32-bit) kHz to fix the rouding error. 2025-03-20drm/bridge: Add encoder parameter to drm_bridge_funcs.attachMaxime Ripard
The drm_bridge structure contains an encoder pointer that is widely used by bridge drivers. This pattern is largely documented as deprecated in other KMS entities for atomic drivers. However, one of the main use of that pointer is done in attach to just call drm_bridge_attach on the next bridge to add it to the bridge list. While this dereferences the bridge->encoder pointer, it's effectively the same encoder the bridge was being attached to. We can make it more explicit by adding the encoder the bridge is attached to to the list of attach parameters. This also removes the need to dereference bridge->encoder in most drivers. 2024-02-19drm/meson: improve encoder probe / initialization error handlingMartin Blumenstingl
Rename meson_encoder_{cvbs,dsi,hdmi}_init() to meson_encoder_{cvbs,dsi,hdmi}_probe() so it's clear that these functions are used at probe time during driver initialization. Also switch all error prints inside those functions to use dev_err_probe() for consistency. This makes the code more straight forward to read and makes the error prints within those functions consistent (by logging all -EPROBE_DEFER with dev_dbg(), while actual errors are logged with dev_err() and get the error value printed). 2024-02-19drm/meson: Don't remove bridges which are created by other driversMartin Blumenstingl
Stop calling drm_bridge_remove() for bridges allocated/managed by other drivers in the remove paths of meson_encoder_{cvbs,dsi,hdmi}. drm_bridge_remove() unregisters the bridge so it cannot be used anymore. Doing so for bridges we don't own can lead to the video pipeline not being able to come up after -EPROBE_DEFER of the VPU because we're unregistering a bridge that's managed by another driver. The other driver doesn't know that we have unregistered it's bridge and on subsequent .probe() we're not able to find those bridges anymore (since nobody re-creates them). This fixes probe errors on Meson8b boards with the CVBS outputs enabled. 2023-07-21drm: Explicitly include correct DT includesRob Herring
The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2022-09-23drm/meson: remove drm bridges at aggregate driver unbind timeAdrián Larumbe
drm bridges added by meson_encoder_hdmi_init and meson_encoder_cvbs_init were not manually removed at module unload time, which caused dangling references to freed memory to remain linked in the global bridge_list. When loading the driver modules back in, the same functions would again call drm_bridge_add, and when traversing the global bridge_list, would end up peeking into freed memory. 2022-06-07drm/meson: encoder_hdmi: Fix refcount leak in meson_encoder_hdmi_initMiaoqian Lin
of_graph_get_remote_node() returns remote device nodepointer with refcount incremented, we should use of_node_put() on it when done. Add missing of_node_put() to avoid refcount leak. 2022-05-18drm/meson: add YUV422 output supportDongjin Kim
Support YUV422 output from the Amlogic Meson SoC VPU to the HDMI controller. Without this YUV422 format out of the HDMI encoder leads to using the dw-hdmi YUV444 to YUV422 color conversion which gives wrong colors and a green line on the left edge of the screen. 2021-11-12drm/meson: encoder_hdmi: switch to bridge DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTORNeil Armstrong
This implements the necessary change to no more use the embedded connector in dw-hdmi and use the dedicated bridge connector driver by passing DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR to the bridge attach call. The necessary connector properties are added to handle the same functionalities as the embedded dw-hdmi connector, i.e. the HDR metadata, the CEC notifier & other flags. The dw-hdmi output_port is set to 1 in order to look for a connector next bridge in order to get DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR working. 2021-11-12drm/meson: split out encoder from meson_dw_hdmiNeil Armstrong
This moves all the non-DW-HDMI code where it should be: an encoder in the drm/meson core driver. The bridge functions are copied as-is, except: - the encoder init uses the simple kms helper - the mode_set has been moved to atomic_enable() - debug prints are converted to dev_debg() For now the bridge attach flags is 0, DRM_BRIDGE_ATTACH_NO_CONNECTOR will be handled later. The meson dw-hdmi glue is slightly fixed to live without the encoder in the same driver.
