2025-06-03drm/amd/display: replace fast_validate with enum dc_validate_modeYan Li
[Why] The boolean fast_validate is used as an input parameter in multiple functions. To support more scenarios, we are replacing it with enum dc_validate_mode. [How] The enum dc_validate_mode introduces three possible values: 1) DC_VALIDATE_MODE_AND_PROGRAMMING: Apply the mode to hardware 2) DC_VALIDATE_MODE_ONLY: Check whether the mode can be supported 3) DC_VALIDATE_MODE_AND_STATE_INDEX: Check if the mode can be supported, and determine the optimal voltage level needed to support it. 2024-02-07drm/amd/display: set odm_combine_policy based on context in dcn32 resourceWenjing Liu
[why] When populating dml pipes, odm combine policy should be assigned based on the pipe topology of the context passed in. DML pipes could be repopulated multiple times during single validate bandwidth attempt. We need to make sure that whenever we repopulate the dml pipes it is always aligned with the updated context. There is a case where DML pipes get repopulated during FPO optimization after ODM combine policy is changed. Since in the current code we reinitlaize ODM combine policy, even though the current context has ODM combine enabled, we overwrite it despite the pipes are already split. This causes DML to think that MPC combine is used so we mistakenly enable MPC combine because we apply pipe split with ODM combine policy reset. This issue doesn't impact non windowed MPO with ODM case because the legacy policy has restricted use cases. We don't encounter the case where both ODM and FPO optimizations are enabled together. So we decide to leave it as is because it is about to be replaced anyway. [Description] For mode programming we want to extend the prefetch as much as possible (up to oto, or as long as we can for equ) if we're not already applying the 60us prefetch requirement. This is to avoid intermittent underflow issues during prefetch. The prefetch extension is applied under the following scenarios: 1. We're in prefetch mode 1 (i.e. we don't support MCLK switch in blank) 2. We're using subvp or drr methods of p-state switch, in which case we we don't care if prefetch takes up more of the blanking time Mode programming typically chooses the smallest prefetch time possible (i.e. highest bandwidth during prefetch) presumably to create margin between p-states / c-states that happen in vblank and prefetch. Therefore we only apply this prefetch extension when p-state in vblank is not required (UCLK p-states take up the most vblank time). 2023-12-06drm/amd/display: Add ODM check during pipe split/merge validationRelja Vojvodic
[why] When querying DML for a vlevel after pipes have been split or merged the ODM policy would revert to a default policy, which could cause the query to use the incorrect ODM status. In this case ODM 2to1 was validated, but the last DML query would assume no ODM and return the incorrect vlevel. [how] Added ODM check to apply the correct ODM policy before querying DML. [Description] - Previously SubVP would never be selected on 1080p60 displays because it has too much vactive margin. However, implement a change to allow it like how 1440p60 is allowed. - Add a new struct such that we have a list of allowed modes for enabling subvp with vactive margin (currently 1080p60 and 1440p60) - Also ensure to block drr + vblank cases to prevent unexpected enablement of new display configs - Update SW cursor fallback for these new potential cases as well Reviewed-by: Samson Tam <samson.tam@amd.com> Acked-by: Hamza Mahfooz <hamza.mahfooz@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alvin Lee <alvin.lee2@amd.com> Signed-off-by: Alex Deucher <alexander.deucher@amd.com>

[Description] When choosing which dummy p-state latency to use, we need to use the DRAM speed from validation. 2023-11-29drm/amd/display: fix a pipe mapping error in dcn32_fpuWenjing Liu
[why] In dcn32 DML pipes are ordered the same as dc pipes but only for used pipes. For example, if dc pipe 1 and 2 are used, their dml pipe indices would be 0 and 1 respectively. However update_pipe_slice_table_with_split_flags doesn't skip indices for free pipes. This causes us to not reference correct dml pipe output when building pipe topology. [how] Use two variables to iterate dc and dml pipes respectively and only increment dml pipe index when current dc pipe is not free. 2023-10-09drm/amd/display: Disable SubVP if test pattern is enabledGeorge Shen
[Why] Enabling DPG causes HUBP to stay in blank constantly. If DPG is enabled while an MCLK switch is taking place with SubVP, it will cause the MCLK to never complete. This is because SubVP MCLK switch relies a HUBP VLine interrupt, which will never occur when HUBP is constantly in blank. [How] Disable SubVP when test pattern is enabled. DC is transitioning from DML to DML2, and this commit introduces all the required changes for some of the already available ASICs and adds the required code infra to support new ASICs under DML2. DML2 is also a generated code that provides better mode verification and programming models for software/hardware, and it enables a better way to create validation tools. This version is more like a middle step to the complete transition to the DML2 version.
