2025-02-04drm/amd/display: Respect user's CONFIG_FRAME_WARN more for dml filesNathan Chancellor
Currently, there are several files in drm/amd/display that aim to have a higher -Wframe-larger-than value to avoid instances of that warning with a lower value from the user's configuration. However, with the way that it is currently implemented, it does not respect the user's request via CONFIG_FRAME_WARN for a higher stack frame limit, which can cause pain when new instances of the warning appear and break the build due to CONFIG_WERROR. Adjust the logic to switch from a hard coded -Wframe-larger-than value to only using the value as a minimum clamp and deferring to the requested value from CONFIG_FRAME_WARN if it is higher. 2023-06-09drm/amdgpu/display: Enable DC_FP for LoongArchHuacai Chen
LoongArch now provides kernel_fpu_begin() and kernel_fpu_end() that are used like the x86 counterparts in commit 2b3bd32ea3a22ea2d ("LoongArch: Provide kernel fpu functions"), so we can enable DC_FP on LoongArch for supporting more DCN devices. When clang's -Qunused-arguments is dropped from KBUILD_CPPFLAGS, it warns: clang-16: error: argument unused during compilation: '-mhard-float' [-Werror,-Wunused-command-line-argument] Similar to commit 84edc2eff827 ("selftest/fpu: avoid clang warning"), just add this flag to GCC builds. Commit 0f0727d971f6 ("drm/amd/display: readd -msse2 to prevent Clang from emitting libcalls to undefined SW FP routines") added '-msse2' to prevent clang from emitting software floating point routines. Building 32-bit images may fail with the following error. drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../display/dc/dml/dcn32/display_mode_vba_util_32.c: In function ‘dml32_UseMinimumDCFCLK’: drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../display/dc/dml/dcn32/display_mode_vba_util_32.c:3142:1: error: the frame size of 1096 bytes is larger than 1024 bytes This is seen when building i386:allmodconfig with any of the following compilers. gcc (Debian 12.2.0-3) 12.2.0 gcc (Ubuntu 9.4.0-1ubuntu1~20.04.1) 9.4.0 The problem is not seen if the compiler supports GCC_PLUGIN_LATENT_ENTROPY because in that case CONFIG_FRAME_WARN is already set to 2048 even for 32-bit builds. dml32_UseMinimumDCFCLK() was introduced with commit dda4fb85e433 ("drm/amd/display: DML changes for DCN32/321"). It declares a large number of local variables. Increase the frame size for the affected file to 2048, similar to other files in the same directory, to enable 32-bit build tests with affected compilers. We are working to isolate FPU operations inside the DML folder, and the file dcn32_clk_mgr has some of these operations. This commit moves the FPU operations inside the clock manager and creates the dcn32_fpu file to aggregate those operations. Note that there is no functional change ere, just moving code from one part to another. The display core files rely on FPU, which requires to be compiled with special flags. Ideally, we don't want these FPU operations spread around the DC code; nevertheless, it happens in the current source. This commit introduces a new directory inside DML for centralizing shared DCN functions that require FPU and have been used outside DML. For illustrating this process of transferring FPU functions to the DML folder, this commit moves one of the functions dcn20_populate_dml_writeback_from_context) that require FPU access to a single shared file. Notice that this is the first part of the work, and it does not fix the FPU issue yet; we still need other patches for achieving the complete FPU isolation. From Ard: "Simply disabling -mgeneral-regs-only left and right is risky, given that the standard AArch64 ABI permits the use of FP/SIMD registers anywhere, and GCC is known to use SIMD registers for spilling, and may invent other uses of the FP/SIMD register file that have nothing to do with the floating point code in question. Note that putting kernel_neon_begin() and kernel_neon_end() around the code that does use FP is not sufficient here, the problem is in all the other code that may be emitted with references to SIMD registers in it. So the only way to do this properly is to put all floating point code in a separate compilation unit, and only compile that unit with -mgeneral-regs-only." Disable support until the code can be properly refactored to support this properly on aarch64. DCN requires floating point support to operate. Add the appropriate x86/ppc64 guards and FPU / AltiVec / VSX context switches to DCN.
