2022-06-27docs: rename Documentation/vm to Documentation/mmMike Rapoport
so it will be consistent with code mm directory and with Documentation/admin-guide/mm and won't be confused with virtual machines. 2022-06-16mm/memory-failure: disable unpoison once hw error happenszhenwei pi
Currently unpoison_memory(unsigned long pfn) is designed for soft poison(hwpoison-inject) only. Since 17fae1294ad9d, the KPTE gets cleared on a x86 platform once hardware memory corrupts. Unpoisoning a hardware corrupted page puts page back buddy only, the kernel has a chance to access the page with *NOT PRESENT* KPTE. This leads BUG during accessing on the corrupted KPTE. Suggested by David&Naoya, disable unpoison mechanism when a real HW error happens to avoid BUG like this: Unpoison: Software-unpoisoned page 0x61234 BUG: unable to handle page fault for address: ffff888061234000 #PF: supervisor write access in kernel mode #PF: error_code(0x0002) - not-present page PGD 2c01067 P4D 2c01067 PUD 107267063 PMD 10382b063 PTE 800fffff9edcb062 Oops: 0002 [#1] PREEMPT SMP NOPTI CPU: 4 PID: 26551 Comm: stress Kdump: loaded Tainted: G M OE 5.18.0.bm.1-amd64 #7 Hardware name: QEMU Standard PC (i440FX + PIIX, 1996) ... 2022-02-23x86/mce: Remove the tolerance level controlBorislav Petkov
This is pretty much unused and not really useful. What is more, all relevant MCA hardware has recoverable machine checks support so there's no real need to tweak MCA tolerance levels in order to *maybe* extend machine lifetime. So rip it out. 2021-09-03doc: hwpoison: correct the support for hugepageYang Shi
The hwpoison support for huge page, both hugetlb and THP, has been in kernel for a while, the statement in document is obsolete, correct it. 2019-06-20docs/vm: hwpoison.rst: Fix quote formattingValentin Schneider
The asterisks prepended to the quoted text currently get translated to bullet points, which gets increasingly confusing the smaller your screen is (when viewing the sphinx output, that is). Convert the whole quote to a literal block. Signed-off-by: Valentin Schneider <valentin.schneider@arm.com> Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>
2018-04-27docs/admin-guide/mm: start moving here files from Documentation/vmMike Rapoport
Several documents in Documentation/vm fit quite well into the "admin/user guide" category. The documents that don't overload the reader with lots of implementation details and provide coherent description of certain feature can be moved to Documentation/admin-guide/mm.
