2022-10-06perf test: Add build infra for perf test tools for ARM CoreSight testsCarsten Haitzler
This adds the initial build infrastructure (makefiles maintainers information) for adding follow-on tests for CoreSight. Committer notes: Remove the installation of tests/shell/coresight/*.sh, as there are no files there yet and thus, at this point, make install fails. Use $(QUIET_CLEAN) to avoid having extraneous output in the 'make clean' output. Also use @$(MAKE) in tools/perf/tests/shell/coresight/Makefile as $(Q) is not turning into @ when V=1 isn't used, i.e. in the default case it is not being quiet. The >/dev/null in the all for tools/perf/tests/shell/coresight/Makefile is to avoid this: make[4]: Nothing to be done for 'all'. make[4]: Nothing to be done for 'all'. make[4]: Nothing to be done for 'all'. DESCEND plugins GEN /tmp/build/perf/python/perf.so make[4]: Nothing to be done for 'all'. INSTALL trace_plugins On !arm64 where nothing is done on the main target for tools/perf/tests/shell/coresight/*/Makefile. 2022-10-06perf test: Introduce script for data symbol testingLeo Yan
The test is designed with a data structure with 64-byte alignment, it has two fields "data1" and "data2", and other fields are reserved. Using the "perf mem" command, we can record and report memory samples for a self-contained workload with 1 second duration. If no samples are obtained for the data structure "buf1", it reports failure; and by checking the offset in structure "buf1", if the memory samples aren't for the "data1" and "data2" fields, it means wrong data symbol parsing and returns failure. 2022-10-04perf test: test_intel_pt.sh: Add per-thread testAdrian Hunter
When tracing the kernel with Intel PT, text_poke events are recorded per-cpu. In per-thread mode that results in a mixture of per-thread and per-cpu events and mmaps. Check that happens correctly. The debug output from perf record -vvv is recorded and then awk used to process the debug messages that indicate what file descriptors were opened and whether they were mmapped or set-output. 2022-10-04perf tests: Fix 'perf probe' error log check in skip_if_no_debuginfoAthira Rajeev
The perf probe related tests like probe_vfs_getname.sh which is in "tools/perf/tests/shell" directory have dependency on debuginfo information in the kernel. Currently debuginfo check is handled by skip_if_no_debuginfo function in the file "lib/probe_vfs_getname.sh". skip_if_no_debuginfo function looks for this specific error log from perf probe to skip the testcase: <<>> Failed to find the path for the kernel|Debuginfo-analysis is not supported <>> But in some case, like this one in powerpc, while running this test, observed error logs is: <<>> The /lib/modules/<version>/build/vmlinux file has no debug information. Rebuild with CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO=y, or install an appropriate debuginfo package. for branch filter Commit b55878c90ab92a24 ("perf test: Add test for branch stack sampling") added test for branch stack sampling. There is a sanity check in the beginning to skip the test if the hardware doesn't support branch stack sampling. Snippet <<>> skip the test if the hardware doesn't support branch stack sampling perf record -b -o- -B true > /dev/null 2>&1 || exit 2 <<>> But the testcase also uses branch sample types: save_type, any. if any platform doesn't support the branch filters used in the test, the testcase will fail. In powerpc, currently mutliple branch filters are not supported and hence this test fails in powerpc. Fix the sanity check to look at the support for branch filters used in this test before proceeding with the test. "perf all PMU test" picks the input events from "perf list --raw-dump pmu" list and runs "perf stat -e" for each of the event in the list. In case of powerpc, the PowerVM environment supports events from hv_24x7 and hv_gpci PMU which is of example format like below: - hv_24x7/CPM_ADJUNCT_INST,domain=?,core=?/ - hv_gpci/event,partition_id=?/ The value for "?" needs to be filled in depending on system and respective event. CPM_ADJUNCT_INST needs have core value and domain value. hv_gpci event needs partition_id. Similarly, there are other events for hv_24x7 and hv_gpci having "?" in event format. Hence skip these events on powerpc platform since values like partition_id, domain is specific to system and event. Currently the `perf test` always fails the coresight test like: 89: Check Arm CoreSight trace data recording and synthesized samples: FAILED! That is because the test_arm_coresight.sh is attempting to SIGINT the parent but is using $$ rather than $PPID and it sigint's itself when run under the perf test framework. Since this is done in a trap clause it ends up returning a non zero return. Since $PPID is a bash ism and not all distros are linking /bin/sh to bash, the alternative parent pid lookups are uglier than just dropping the kill, and its not strictly needed, lets pick the simple solution and drop the sigint. 2022-02-14perf test: Allow skip for all metrics testIan Rogers
Some Intel TMA metrics compute a ratio that may divide by 0, which causes the metric not to print. This happens for metrics with FP_ARITH events. If we see these events in the result and would otherwise fail, then switch to a skip. Also, don't early exit when processing metrics.
