The recent fix for the deferred I/O by the commit
3efc61d95259 ("fbdev: Fix invalid page access after closing deferred I/O devices")
caused a regression when the same fb device is opened/closed while
it's being used. It resulted in a frozen screen even if something
is redrawn there after the close. The breakage is because the patch
was made under a wrong assumption of a single open; in the current
code, fb_deferred_io_release() cleans up the page mapping of the
pageref list and it calls cancel_delayed_work_sync() unconditionally,
where both are no correct behavior for multiple opens.
This patch adds a refcount for the opens of the device, and applies
the cleanup only when all files get closed.
As both fb_deferred_io_open() and _close() are called always in the
fb_info lock (mutex), it's safe to use the normal int for the
refcounting.
Also, a useless BUG_ON() is dropped.

Handle the command-line parameter video= in video/cmdline.c. Implement
the fbdev helper fb_get_options() on top. Will allows to handle the
kernel parameter in DRM without fbdev dependencies.
Note that __video_get_options() has the meaning of its return value
inverted compared to fb_get_options(). The new helper returns true if
the adapter has been enabled, and false otherwise.
There is the ofonly parameter, which disables output for non-OF-based
framebuffers. It is only for offb and looks like a workaround. The actual
purpose it not clear to me. Use 'video=off' or 'nomodeset' instead.

In fb_get_options(), always duplicate the returned option string and
transfer ownership of the memory to the function's caller.
Until now, only the global option string got duplicated and transferred
to the caller; the per-driver options were owned by fb_get_options().
In the end, it was impossible for the function's caller to detect if
it had to release the string's memory buffer. Hence, all calling drivers
leak the memory buffer. The leaks have existed ever since, but drivers
only call fb_get_option() once as part of module initialization. So the
amount of leaked memory is not significant.
Fix the semantics of fb_get_option() by unconditionally transferring
ownership of the memory buffer to the caller. Later patches can resolve
the memory leaks in the fbdev drivers.

When a fbdev with deferred I/O is once opened and closed, the dirty
pages still remain queued in the pageref list, and eventually later
those may be processed in the delayed work. This may lead to a
corruption of pages, hitting an Oops.
This patch makes sure to cancel the delayed work and clean up the
pageref list at closing the device for addressing the bug. A part of
the cleanup code is factored out as a new helper function that is
called from the common fb_release().

This moves 32x32 font size limitation checking down to drivers, so that
fbcon can allow large fonts.
We still keep a limitation to 64x128 pixels so as to have a simple bounded
allocation for con_font_get and in the userland kbd tool. That glyph size
will however be enough to have 128x36 characters on a "16/9 8K display".

The current con_font_get/set API currently hardcodes a 32-pixel-tall
limitation, which only dates from the old VGA hardware which could not
handle taller fonts than that.
This change just adds a vpitch parameter to release this
constraint. Drivers which do not support vpitch != 32 can just return
EINVAL when it is not 32, font loading tools will revert to trying 32
and succeed.
This change makes the fbcon driver consider vpitch appropriately, thus
making it able to load large fonts.

This reverts commit ae1287865f5361fa138d4d3b1b6277908b54eac9.
Always free the console font when deinitializing the framebuffer
console. Subsequent framebuffer consoles will then use the default
font. Rely on userspace to load any user-configured font for these
consoles.
Commit ae1287865f53 ("fbcon: don't lose the console font across
generic->chip driver switch") was introduced to work around losing
the font during graphics-device handover. [1][2] It kept a dangling
pointer with the font data between loading the two consoles, which is
fairly adventurous hack. It also never covered cases when the other
consoles, such as VGA text mode, where involved.
The problem has meanwhile been solved in userspace. Systemd comes
with a udev rule that re-installs the configured font when a console
comes up. [3] So the kernel workaround can be removed.
This also removes one of the two special cases triggered by setting
FBINFO_MISC_FIRMWARE in an fbdev driver.
Tested during device handover from efifb and simpledrm to radeon. Udev
reloads the configured console font for the new driver's terminal.

Support the kernel's nomodeset parameter for all PCI-based fbdev
drivers that use aperture helpers to remove other, hardware-agnostic
graphics drivers.
The parameter is a simple way of using the firmware-provided scanout
buffer if the hardware's native driver is broken. The same effect
could be achieved with per-driver options, but the importance of the
graphics output for many users makes a single, unified approach
worthwhile.
With nomodeset specified, the fbdev driver module will not load. This
unifies behavior with similar DRM drivers. In DRM helpers, modules
first check the nomodeset parameter before registering the PCI
driver. As fbdev has no such module helpers, we have to modify each
driver individually.
The name 'nomodeset' is slightly misleading, but has been chosen for
historical reasons. Several drivers implemented it before it became a
general option for DRM. So keeping the existing name was preferred over
introducing a new one.

* print a warning if a driver does not init (Helge)
* wrap video_firmware_drivers_only() in helper

Schedule the deferred-I/O worker instead of the damage worker after
writing to the fbdev framebuffer. The deferred-I/O worker then performs
the dirty-fb update. The fbdev emulation will initialize deferred I/O
for all drivers that require damage updates. It is therefore a valid
assumption that the deferred-I/O worker is present.
It would be possible to perform the damage handling directly from within
the write operation. But doing this could increase the overhead of the
write or interfere with a concurrently scheduled deferred-I/O worker.
Instead, scheduling the deferred-I/O worker with its regular delay of
50 ms removes load off the write operation and allows the deferred-I/O
worker to handle multiple write operations that arrived during the delay
time window.
v3:
* remove unused variable (lkp)
v2:
* keep drm_fb_helper_damage() (Daniel)
* use fb_deferred_io_schedule_flush() (Daniel)
* clarify comments (Daniel)

fbcon_do_set_font() calls vc_resize() when font size is changed.
However, if if vc_resize() failed, current implementation doesn't
revert changes for font size, and this causes inconsistent state.
syzbot reported unable to handle page fault due to this issue [1].
syzbot's repro uses fault injection which cause failure for memory
allocation, so vc_resize() failed.
This patch fixes this issue by properly revert changes for font
related date when vc_resize() failed.

"Here is the big set of tty and serial driver changes for 6.0-rc1.
It was delayed from last week as I wanted to make sure the last commit

Nothing major here, just lots of cleanups from Jiri and Ilpo to make

Also included in here is the obligatory n_gsm updates from Daniel

Remove the call to do_remove_conflicting_framebuffers() from the
framebuffer registration. Aperture helpers take care of removing
conflicting devices. With all ownership information stored in the
aperture datastrcutures, remove remove_conflicting_framebuffers()
entirely.
This change also rectifies DRM generic-framebuffer registration, which
tried to unregister conflicting framebuffers, even though it's entirely
build on top of DRM.

We need to prevent that users configure a screen size which is smaller than the
currently selected font size. Otherwise rendering chars on the screen will
access memory outside the graphics memory region.
This patch adds a new function fbcon_modechange_possible() which
implements this check and which later may be extended with other checks
if necessary. The new function is called from the FBIOPUT_VSCREENINFO
ioctl handler in fbmem.c, which will return -EINVAL if userspace asked
