Here are the USB-serial updates for 5.13-rc1, including:

suspend() does its poisoning conditionally, resume() does it
unconditionally. On a device with combined interfaces this
will balance, on a device with two interfaces the counter will
go negative and resubmission will fail.
Both actions need to be done conditionally.

Now that the xr_serial got support for other models, add their USB IDs
as well.
The Maxlinear/Exar USB UARTs can be used in either ACM mode using the
cdc-acm driver or in "custom driver" mode in which further features such
as hardware and software flow control, GPIO control and in-band
line-status reporting are available.
In ACM mode the device always enables RTS/CTS flow control, something
which could prevent transmission in case the CTS input isn't wired up
correctly.
Ensure that cdc_acm will not bind to these devices if the custom
USB-serial driver is enabled.

TIOCSSERIAL is a horrid, underspecified, legacy interface which for most
serial devices is only useful for setting the close_delay and
closing_wait parameters.
The xmit_fifo_size parameter could be used to set the hardware transmit
fifo size of a legacy UART when it could not be detected, but the
interface is limited to eight bits and should be left unset when it is
not used.
Similarly, baud_base could be used to set the UART base clock when it
could not be detected, but might as well be left unset when it is not
known (which is the case for CDC).
Fix the cdc-acm TIOCGSERIAL implementation by dropping its custom
interpretation of the unused xmit_fifo_size and baud_base fields, which
overflowed the former with the URB buffer size and set the latter to the
current line speed. Also return the port line number, which is the only
other value used besides the close parameters.
Note that the current line speed can still be retrieved through the
standard termios interfaces.

TIOCSSERIAL is a horrid, underspecified, legacy interface which for most
serial devices is only useful for setting the close_delay and
closing_wait parameters.
A non-privileged user has only ever been able to set the since long
deprecated ASYNC_SPD flags and trying to change any other *supported*
feature should result in -EPERM being returned. Setting the current
values for any supported features should return success.
Fix the cdc-acm implementation which instead indicated that the
TIOCSSERIAL ioctl was not even implemented when a non-privileged user
set the current values.

This reverts commit b401f8c4f492cbf74f3f59c9141e5be3071071bb.
The offending commit claimed that trying to set the values reported back
by TIOCGSERIAL as a regular user could result in an -EPERM error when HZ
is 250, but that was never the case.
With HZ=250, the default 0.5 second value of close_delay is converted to
125 jiffies when set and is converted back to 50 centiseconds by
TIOCGSERIAL as expected (not 12 cs as was claimed, even if that was the
case before an earlier fix).
Comparing the internal current and new jiffies values is just fine to
determine if the value is about to change so drop the bogus workaround
(which was also backported to stable).
For completeness: With different default values for these parameters or
with a HZ value not divisible by two, the lack of rounding when setting
the default values in tty_port_init() could result in an -EPERM being
returned, but this is hardly something we need to worry about.

Make sure to always claim the data interface and bail out if binding
fails.
Note that the driver had a check to verify that the data interface was
not already bound to a driver but would not detect other failures (e.g.
if the interface was not authorised).

sequence numbers which is harder to review and maintain (e.g. may

If tty-device registration fails the driver would fail to release the
data interface. When the device is later disconnected, the disconnect
callback would still be called for the data interface and would go about
releasing already freed resources.

If tty-device registration fails the driver copy of any Country
Selection functional descriptor would end up being freed twice; first
explicitly in the error path and then again in the tty-port destructor.
Drop the first erroneous free that was left when fixing a tty-port
resource leak.

The CDC ACM driver is false matching the Goodix Fingerprint device
against the USB_CDC_ACM_PROTO_AT_V25TER.
The Goodix Fingerprint device is a biometrics sensor that should be
handled in user-space. libfprint has some support for Goodix
fingerprint sensors, although not for this particular one. It is
possible that the vendor allocates a PID per OEM (Lenovo, Dell etc).
If this happens to be the case then more devices from the same vendor
could potentially match the ACM modem module table.

Renesas R-Car and RZ/G SoCs have a firmware download mode over USB.
However, on reset a banner string is transmitted out which is not expected
to be echoed back and will corrupt the protocol.

Commit a4e7279cd1d1 ("cdc-acm: introduce a cool down") is causing
regression if there is some USB error, such as -EPROTO.
This has been reported on some samples of the Odroid-N2 using the Combee II
Zibgee USB dongle.
> struct acm *acm = container_of(work, struct acm, work)
is incorrect in case of a delayed work and causes warnings, usually from
the workqueue:
> WARNING: CPU: 0 PID: 0 at kernel/workqueue.c:1474 __queue_work+0x480/0x528.
When this happens, USB eventually stops working completely after a while.
Also the ACM_ERROR_DELAY bit is never set, so the cooldown mechanism
previously introduced cannot be triggered and acm_submit_read_urb() is
never called.
This changes makes the cdc-acm driver use a single delayed work, fixing the
pointer arithmetic in acm_softint() and set the ACM_ERROR_DELAY when the
cooldown mechanism appear to be needed.

For interfaces that lack a union descriptor, probe for a
"combined-interface" before falling back to the call-management
descriptor instead of the other way round.
This allows for the removal of the NO_DATA_INTERFACE quirk and makes the
probe algorithm somewhat easier to follow.

Handle broken union functional descriptors where the master-interface
doesn't exist or where its class is of neither Communication or Data
type (as required by the specification) by falling back to
"combined-interface" probing.
Note that this still allows for handling union descriptors with switched
interfaces.
This specifically makes the Whistler radio scanners TRX series devices
work with the driver without adding further quirks to the device-id
table.

The second problem is any data in the notification_buffer is lost
when the pointer is freed. In the normal case, the current data
is accumulated in the notification_buffer here.

When a resize happens, anything before
notification_buffer[acm->nb_index] is garbage.
The third problem is the acm->nb_index is not reset on a
resizing buffer error.

The IR Droid / IR Toy device used custom protocol over serial
line, so it is presenting itself as CDC ACM device.
Now that we have proper in-kernel driver for it we need to black-list the
device in cdc-acm driver.

USB_DEVICE(0x0424, 0x274e) can send data before cdc_acm is ready,

Suspend increments a counter, then kills the URBs,
then kills the scheduled work. The scheduled work, however,
may reschedule the URBs. Fix this by having the work
check the counter.

commit b401f8c4f492c ("USB: cdc-acm: fix rounding error in TIOCSSERIAL")
introduced a regression by changing the order of capability and close
settings change checks. When running with CAP_SYS_ADMIN setting the
close settings to the values already set resulted in -EOPNOTSUPP.
Fix this by changing the check order back to how it was before.

By default, tty_port_init() initializes those parameters to a multiple
of HZ. For instance in line 69 of tty_port.c:

With e.g. CONFIG_HZ = 250 (as this is the case for Ubuntu 18.04
linux-image-4.15.0-37-generic), the default setting for close_delay is
thus 125.
When ioctl(fd, TIOCGSERIAL, &s) is executed, the setting returned in
user space is '12' (125/10). When ioctl(fd, TIOCSSERIAL, &s) is then
executed with the same setting '12', the value is interpreted as '120'
which is different from the current setting and a EPERM error may be
raised by set_serial_info() if !CAP_SYS_ADMIN.

Clean up the throttle implementation by dropping the redundant
throttle_req flag which was a remnant from back when USB serial had only
a single read URB, something which was later carried over to cdc-acm.
Also convert the throttled flag to an atomic bit flag.

Fix two long-standing bugs which could potentially lead to memory
corruption or leave the port throttled until it is reopened (on weakly
ordered systems), respectively, when read-URB completion races with
unthrottle().
First, the URB must not be marked as free before processing is complete
to prevent it from being submitted by unthrottle() on another CPU.

Second, the URB must be marked as free before checking the throttled
flag to prevent unthrottle() on another CPU from failing to observe that
the URB needs to be submitted if complete() sees that the throttled flag
is set.

Note that test_and_clear_bit() only implies barriers when the test is
successful. To handle the case where the URB is still in use an explicit
barrier needs to be added to unthrottle() for the second race condition.
Also note that the first race was fixed by 36e59e0d70d6 ("cdc-acm: fix
race between callback and unthrottle") back in 2015, but the bug was
reintroduced a year later.

When the kernel is compiled with preemption enabled, the URB completion
handler can run in parallel with the work responsible for waking up the
tty layer. If the URB handler sets the EVENT_TTY_WAKEUP bit during the
call to tty_port_tty_wakeup() to signal that there is room for additional
input, it will be cleared at the end of this call. As a result, TX traffic
on the upper layer will be blocked.
This can be seen with a kernel configured with CONFIG_PREEMPT, and a fast
modem connected with PPP running over a USB CDC-ACM port.
Use test_and_clear_bit() instead, which ensures that each wakeup requested
by the URB completion code will trigger a call to tty_port_tty_wakeup().

Mediatek Preloader is a proprietary embedded boot loader for loading
Little Kernel and Linux into device DRAM.
This boot loader also handle firmware update. Mediatek Preloader will be
enumerated as a virtual COM port when the device is connected to Windows
or Linux OS via CDC-ACM class driver. When the USB enumeration has been
done, Mediatek Preloader will send out handshake command "READY" to PC
actively instead of waiting command from the download tool.
Since Linux 4.12, the commit "tty: reset termios state on device
registration" (93857edd9829e144acb6c7e72d593f6e01aead66) causes Mediatek
Preloader receiving some abnoraml command like "READYXX" as it sent.
This will be recognized as an incorrect response. The behavior change
also causes the download handshake fail. This change only affects
subsequent connects if the reconnected device happens to get the same minor
number.
By disabling the ECHO termios flag could avoid this problem. However, it
cannot be done by user space configuration when download tool open
/dev/ttyACM0. This is because the device running Mediatek Preloader will
send handshake command "READY" immediately once the CDC-ACM driver is
ready.
This patch wants to fix above problem by introducing "DISABLE_ECHO"
property in driver_info. When Mediatek Preloader is connected, the
CDC-ACM driver could disable ECHO flag in termios to avoid the problem.

Devices") distiguishes between "consistent signals" (DSR, DCD), and
"irregular signals" (break, ring, parity error, framing error, overrun).
The bits of "irregular signals" are set, if this error/event occurred on
the device side and are immeadeatly unset, if the serial state notification
was sent.
Like other drivers of real serial ports do, just the occurence of those
events should be counted in serial_icounter_struct (but no 1->0
transitions).

Resetting the write index of the notification buffer on urb unlink (e.g.
closing a cdc-acm device from userspace) may lead to wrong interpretation
of further received notifications, in case the index is not 0 when urb
unlink happens (i.e. when parts of a notification already have been
transferred). On the device side there is no "reset" of the notification
transimission and thus we would get out of sync with the device.

If a device splits up a control message and a reset() happens
between the parts, the message is lost and already recieved parts
must be dropped.
