2025-07-10remoteproc: k3-r5: Refactor sequential core power up/down operationsBeleswar Padhi
[ Upstream commit 701177511abd295e0fc2499796e466d8ff12165c ] The existing implementation of the waiting mechanism in "k3_r5_cluster_rproc_init()" waits for the "released_from_reset" flag to be set as part of the firmware boot process in "k3_r5_rproc_start()". The "k3_r5_cluster_rproc_init()" function is invoked in the probe routine which causes unexpected failures in cases where the firmware is unavailable at boot time, resulting in probe failure and removal of the remoteproc handles in the sysfs paths. To address this, the waiting mechanism is refactored out of the probe routine into the appropriate "k3_r5_rproc_{prepare/unprepare}()" functions. This allows the probe routine to complete without depending on firmware booting, while still maintaining the required power-synchronization between cores. Further, this wait mechanism is dropped from "k3_r5_rproc_{start/stop}()" functions as they deal with Core Run/Halt operations, and as such, there is no constraint in Running or Halting the cores of a cluster in order. [ Upstream commit a36d9f96d1cf7c0308bf091e810bec06ce492c3d ] An of_node_put(rmem_np) call was immediately used after a pointer check for a of_reserved_mem_lookup() call in three function implementations. 2025-06-27remoteproc: k3-m4: Don't assert reset in detach routineBeleswar Padhi
commit 23532524594c211871054a15c425812a4ac35102 upstream. The rproc_detach() function invokes __rproc_detach() before rproc_unprepare_device(). The __rproc_detach() function sets the rproc->state to "RPROC_DETACHED". However, the TI K3 M4 driver erroneously looks for "RPROC_ATTACHED" state in its .unprepare ops to identify IPC-only mode; which leads to resetting the rproc in detach routine. Therefore, correct the IPC-only mode detection logic to look for "RPROC_DETACHED" in k3_m4_rproc_unprepare() function. 2025-06-27remoteproc: core: Cleanup acquired resources when rproc_handle_resources() ↵Xiaolei Wang
fails in rproc_attach() commit 7692c9fbedd9087dc9050903f58095915458d9b1 upstream. When rproc->state = RPROC_DETACHED and rproc_attach() is used to attach to the remote processor, if rproc_handle_resources() returns a failure, the resources allocated by imx_rproc_prepare() should be released, otherwise the following memory leak will occur. Since almost the same thing is done in imx_rproc_prepare() and rproc_resource_cleanup(), Function rproc_resource_cleanup() is able to deal with empty lists so it is better to fix the "goto" statements in rproc_attach(). replace the "unprepare_device" goto statement with "clean_up_resources" and get rid of the "unprepare_device" label. unreferenced object 0xffff0000861c5d00 (size 128): comm "kworker/u12:3", pid 59, jiffies 4294893509 (age 149.220s) hex dump (first 32 bytes): 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................ 00 00 02 88 00 00 00 00 00 00 10 00 00 00 00 00 ............ backtrace: [<00000000f949fe18>] slab_post_alloc_hook+0x98/0x37c [<00000000adbfb3e7>] __kmem_cache_alloc_node+0x138/0x2e0 [<00000000521c0345>] kmalloc_trace+0x40/0x158 [<000000004e330a49>] rproc_mem_entry_init+0x60/0xf8 [<000000002815755e>] imx_rproc_prepare+0xe0/0x180 [<0000000003f61b4e>] rproc_boot+0x2ec/0x528 [<00000000e7e994ac>] rproc_add+0x124/0x17c [<0000000048594076>] imx_rproc_probe+0x4ec/0x5d4 [<00000000efc298a1>] platform_probe+0x68/0xd8 [<00000000110be6fe>] really_probe+0x110/0x27c [<00000000e245c0ae>] __driver_probe_device+0x78/0x12c [<00000000f61f6f5e>] driver_probe_device+0x3c/0x118 [<00000000a7874938>] __device_attach_driver+0xb8/0xf8 [<0000000065319e69>] bus_for_each_drv+0x84/0xe4 [<00000000db3eb243>] __device_attach+0xfc/0x18c [<0000000072e4e1a4>] device_initial_probe+0x14/0x20 Fixes: 10a3d4079eae ("remoteproc: imx_rproc: move memory parsing to rproc_ops") Suggested-by: Mathieu Poirier <mathieu.poirier@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Xiaolei Wang <xiaolei.wang@windriver.com> Reviewed-by: Peng Fan <peng.fan@nxp.com> Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20250430092043.1819308-2-xiaolei.wang@windriver.com Signed-off-by: Mathieu Poirier <mathieu.poirier@linaro.org> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@linuxfoundation.org>

2024-08-26remoteproc: imx_rproc: Add support for poweroff and rebootPeng Fan
On some NXP platforms (e.g i.MX7ULP) the poweroff and reboot operations are done via a separate remote core. Typically Linux needs to send a message to the remote core and requests for poweroff or reboot. By default the communication between Linux core and the remote core is is done via a blocking mailbox mechanism but Linux doesn't allow blocking operations in the system off (reboot, power off) handlers. So, we need to make sure the mailbox message send operations do not block for this specific operations. Fortunately, Linux allows us to register handlers that are called in preparation of the system off operations. Thus, before carrying the power off or reboot preparations, just destroy the existing mailboxes and create them as non-blocking. Note that power off and restart are totally different operations and are not complementary. We introduce a new flag in the imx remoteproc per device data which tells us when a device needs this special setup. For now, only imx7ulp needs it. 2024-08-21remoteproc: k3-m4: Add a remoteproc driver for M4F subsystemMartyn Welch
The AM62x and AM64x SoCs of the TI K3 family has a Cortex M4F core in the MCU domain. This core is typically used for safety applications in a stand alone mode. However, some application (non safety related) may want to use the M4F core as a generic remote processor with IPC to the host processor. The M4F core has internal IRAM and DRAM memories and are exposed to the system bus for code and data loading. A remote processor driver is added to support this subsystem, including being able to load and boot the M4F core. Loading includes to M4F internal memories and predefined external code/data memories. The carve outs for external contiguous memory is defined in the M4F device node and should match with the external memory declarations in the M4F image binary. The M4F subsystem has two resets. One reset is for the entire subsystem i.e including the internal memories and the other, a local reset is only for the M4F processing core. When loading the image, the driver first releases the subsystem reset, loads the firmware image and then releases the local reset to let the M4F processing core run. 2024-08-16remoteproc: k3-dsp: Acquire mailbox handle during probe routineBeleswar Padhi
Acquire the mailbox handle during device probe and do not release handle in stop/detach routine or error paths. This removes the redundant requests for mbox handle later during rproc start/attach. This also allows to defer remoteproc driver's probe if mailbox is not probed yet. 2024-08-13remoteproc: Use of_property_present()Rob Herring (Arm)
Use of_property_present() to test for property presence rather than of_(find|get)_property(). This is part of a larger effort to remove callers of of_find_property() and similar functions. of_find_property() leaks the DT struct property and data pointers which is a problem for dynamically allocated nodes which may be freed.
