2015-12-30atl1c: Improve driver not to do order 4 GFP_ATOMIC allocationPavel Machek
[ Upstream commit f2a3771ae8aca879c32336c76ad05a017629bae2 ] atl1c driver is doing order-4 allocation with GFP_ATOMIC priority. That often breaks networking after resume. Switch to GFP_KERNEL. Still not ideal, but should be significantly better. atl1c_setup_ring_resources() is called from .open() function, and already uses GFP_KERNEL, so this change is safe. 2015-12-30can: sja1000: clear interrupts on startMirza Krak
commit 7cecd9ab80f43972c056dc068338f7bcc407b71c upstream. According to SJA1000 data sheet error-warning (EI) interrupt is not cleared by setting the controller in to reset-mode. Then if we have the following case: - system is suspended (echo mem > /sys/power/state) and SJA1000 is left in operating state - A bus error condition occurs which activates EI interrupt, system is still suspended which means EI interrupt will be not be handled nor cleared. If the above two events occur, on resume there is no way to return the SJA1000 to operating state, except to cycle power to it. By simply reading the IR register on start we will clear any previous conditions that could be present. 2015-11-27mwifiex: fix mwifiex_rdeeprom_read()Dan Carpenter

There were several bugs here. 1) The done label was in the wrong place so we didn't copy any information out when there was no command given. 2) We were using PAGE_SIZE as the size of the buffer instead of "PAGE_SIZE - pos". 3) snprintf() returns the number of characters that would have been printed if there were enough space. If there was not enough space (and we had fixed the memory corruption bug #2) then it would result in an information leak when we do simple_read_from_buffer(). I've changed it to use scnprintf() instead. I also removed the initialization at the start of the function, because I thought it made the code a little more clear. 2015-11-17asix: Do full reset during ax88772_bindCharles Keepax
[ Upstream commit 436c2a5036b6ffe813310df2cf327d3b69be0734 ] commit 3cc81d85ee01 ("asix: Don't reset PHY on if_up for ASIX 88772") causes the ethernet on Arndale to no longer function. This appears to be because the Arndale ethernet requires a full reset before it will function correctly, however simply reverting the above patch causes problems with ethtool settings getting reset. It seems the problem is that the ethernet is not properly reset during bind, and indeed the code in ax88772_bind that resets the device is a very small subset of the actual ax88772_reset function. This patch uses ax88772_reset in place of the existing reset code in ax88772_bind which removes some code duplication and fixes the ethernet on Arndale. It is still possible that the original patch causes some issues with suspend and resume but that seems like a separate issue and I haven't had a chance to test that yet. 2015-11-17asix: Don't reset PHY on if_up for ASIX 88772Michel Stam

It can be tested by: ifconfig eth0 down ethtool -s eth0 autoneg off speed 10 duplex half ifconfig eth0 up Then checking 'dmesg' for the link speed. 2015-11-17ppp: fix pppoe_dev deletion condition in pppoe_release()Guillaume Nault
commit 1acea4f6ce1b1c0941438aca75dd2e5c6b09db60 upstream. We can't rely on PPPOX_ZOMBIE to decide whether to clear po->pppoe_dev. PPPOX_ZOMBIE can be set by pppoe_disc_rcv() even when po->pppoe_dev is NULL. So we have no guarantee that (sk->sk_state & PPPOX_ZOMBIE) implies (po->pppoe_dev != NULL). Since we're releasing a PPPoE socket, we want to release the pppoe_dev if it exists and reset sk_state to PPPOX_DEAD, no matter the previous value of sk_state. So we can just check for po->pppoe_dev and avoid any assumption on sk->sk_state. The code to send the RX PN data (for each TID) to the firmware has a devastating bug: it overwrites the data for TID 0 with all the TID data, leaving the remaining TIDs zeroed. Since it didn't declare this extra required headroom, this led to some nasty issues like randomly dropped packets in some setups. 2015-10-13bonding: correct the MAC address for "follow" fail_over_mac policydingtianhong
[ Upstream commit a951bc1e6ba58f11df5ed5ddc41311e10f5fd20b ] The "follow" fail_over_mac policy is useful for multiport devices that either become confused or incur a performance penalty when multiple ports are programmed with the same MAC address, but the same MAC address still may happened by this steps for this policy: 1) echo +eth0 > /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/slaves bond0 has the same mac address with eth0, it is MAC1. 2) echo +eth1 > /sys/class/net/bond0/bonding/slaves eth1 is backup, eth1 has MAC2. 3) ifconfig eth0 down eth1 became active slave, bond will swap MAC for eth0 and eth1, so eth1 has MAC1, and eth0 has MAC2. 4) ifconfig eth1 down there is no active slave, and eth1 still has MAC1, eth2 has MAC2. 5) ifconfig eth0 up the eth0 became active slave again, the bond set eth0 to MAC1. Something wrong here, then if you set eth1 up, the eth0 and eth1 will have the same MAC address, it will break this policy for ACTIVE_BACKUP mode. This patch will fix this problem by finding the old active slave and swap them MAC address before change active slave. commit 48900cb6af4282fa0fb6ff4d72a81aa3dadb5c39 upstream. virtio declares support for NETIF_F_FRAGLIST, but assumes that there are at most MAX_SKB_FRAGS + 2 fragments which isn't always true with a fraglist. A longer fraglist in the skb will make the call to skb_to_sgvec overflow the sg array, leading to memory corruption. Drop NETIF_F_FRAGLIST so we only get what we can handle. Cc: Michael S. 2015-08-12stmmac: troubleshoot unexpected bits in des0 & des1Alexey Brodkin

Current implementation of descriptor init procedure only takes care about setting/clearing ownership flag in "des0"/"des1" fields while it is perfectly possible to get unexpected bits set because of the following factors: [1] On driver probe underlying memory allocated with dma_alloc_coherent() might not be zeroed and so it will be filled with garbage. [2] During driver operation some bits could be set by SD/MMC controller (for example error flags etc). And unexpected and/or randomly set flags in "des0"/"des1" fields may lead to unpredictable behavior of GMAC DMA block. This change addresses both items above with: [1] Use of dma_zalloc_coherent() instead of simple dma_alloc_coherent() to make sure allocated memory is zeroed. That shouldn't affect performance because this allocation only happens once on driver probe. [2] Do explicit zeroing of both "des0" and "des1" fields of all buffer descriptors during initialization of DMA transfer. And while at it fixed identation of dma_free_coherent() counterpart as well. 2015-08-07xen: netback: read hotplug script once at start of day.Ian Campbell
[ Upstream commit 31a418986a5852034d520a5bab546821ff1ccf3d ] When we come to tear things down in netback_remove() and generate the uevent it is possible that the xenstore directory has already been removed (details below). In such cases netback_uevent() won't be able to read the hotplug script and will write a xenstore error node. A recent change to the hypervisor exposed this race such that we now sometimes lose it (where apparently we didn't ever before). Instead read the hotplug script configuration during setup and use it for the lifetime of the backend device. The apparently more obvious fix of moving the transition to state=Closed in netback_remove() to after the uevent does not work because it is possible that we are already in state=Closed (in reaction to the guest having disconnected as it shutdown). Being already in Closed means the toolstack is at liberty to start tearing down the xenstore directories. In principal it might be possible to arrange to unregister the device sooner (e.g on transition to Closing) such that xenstore would still be there but this state machine is fragile and prone to anger... A modern Xen system only relies on the hotplug uevent for driver domains, when the backend is in the same domain as the toolstack it will run the necessary setup/teardown directly in the correct sequence wrt xenstore changes. If the function is called more than once, the calibration fails and bogus offsets will be programmed into the devices. In a well hidden spot, the device documentation tells that trigger indexes 0 and 1 are special in allowing the TRIG_IF_LATE flag to actually work. In some instances where the interface is shutting down, this infinite wait results in a CPU deadlock. A one second timeout fixes this problem without affecting any normal operations. I tracked the crashes in neigh_hh_output() -> memcpy(skb->data - HH_DATA_MOD, hh->hh_data, HH_DATA_MOD); Neighbour code assumes headroom to push Ethernet header is at least 16 bytes. It appears macvtap has only 14 bytes available on arches where NET_IP_ALIGN is 0 (like x86) Effect is a corruption of 2 bytes right before skb->head, and possible crashes if accessing non existing memory. commit 16a3fa28630331e28208872fa5341ce210b901c7 upstream. We currently use hdr_len as a hint of head length which is advertised by guest. But when guest advertise a very big value, it can lead to an 64K+ allocating of kmalloc() which has a very high possibility of failure when host memory is fragmented or under heavy stress. The huge hdr_len also reduce the effect of zerocopy or even disable if a gso skb is linearized in guest. commit 0c36820e2ab7d943ab1188230fdf2149826d33c0 upstream. xen-netfront limits transmitted skbs to be at most 44 segments in size. However, GSO permits up to 65536 bytes, which means a maximum of 45 segments of 1448 bytes each. This slight reduction in the size of packets means a slight loss in efficiency. Since c/s 9ecd1a75d, xen-netfront sets gso_max_size to XEN_NETIF_MAX_TX_SIZE - MAX_TCP_HEADER, where XEN_NETIF_MAX_TX_SIZE is 65535 bytes. The calculation used by tcp_tso_autosize (and also tcp_xmit_size_goal since c/s 6c09fa09d) in determining when to split an skb into two is sk->sk_gso_max_size - 1 - MAX_TCP_HEADER. So the maximum permitted size of an skb is calculated to be (XEN_NETIF_MAX_TX_SIZE - MAX_TCP_HEADER) - 1 - MAX_TCP_HEADER. Intuitively, this looks like the wrong formula -- we don't need two TCP headers. Instead, there is no need to deviate from the default gso_max_size of 65536 as this already accommodates the size of the header. Currently, the largest skb transmitted by netfront is 63712 bytes (44 segments of 1448 bytes each), as observed via tcpdump. This patch makes netfront send skbs of up to 65160 bytes (45 segments of 1448 bytes each). Similarly, the maximum allowable mtu does not need to subtract MAX_TCP_HEADER as it relates to the size of the whole packet, including the header. commit 87f966d97b89774162df04d2106c6350c8fe4cb3 upstream. On a MIPS Malta board, tons of fifo underflow errors have been observed when using u-boot as bootloader instead of YAMON. The reason for that is that YAMON used to set the pcnet device to SRAM mode but u-boot does not. As a result, the default Tx threshold (64 bytes) is now too small to keep the fifo relatively used and it can result to Tx fifo underflow errors. As a result of which, it's best to setup the SRAM on supported controllers so we can always use the NOUFLO bit. [ Upstream commit 05b0aa579397b734f127af58e401a30784a1e315 ] During driver load in tg3_init_one, if the driver detects DMA activity before intializing the chip tg3_halt is called. As part of tg3_halt interrupts are disabled using routine tg3_disable_ints. This routine was using mailbox value which was not initialized (default value is 0). As a result driver was writing 0x00000001 to pci config space register 0, which is the vendor id / device id. This driver bug was exposed because of the commit a7877b17a667 (PCI: Check only the Vendor ID to identify Configuration Request Retry). Also this issue is only seen in older generation chipsets like 5722 because config space write to offset 0 from driver is possible. The newer generation chips ignore writes to offset 0. Also without commit a7877b17a667, for these older chips when a GRC reset is issued the Bootcode would reprogram the vendor id/device id, which is the reason this bug was masked earlier. Fixed by initializing the interrupt mailbox registers before calling tg3_halt. Please queue for -stable. The bits that are to be changed are given as a bitfield in cm->mask. Therefore checking against cm->flags is wrong as the content can hold any kind of values. The iproute2 tool sets the bits in cm->mask and cm->flags depending on the detected command line options. To be robust against bogus user space applications additionally sanitize the provided flags with the provided mask. Like with ath9k, ath5k queues also need to be ordered by priority. queue_info->tqi_subtype already contains the correct index, so use it instead of relying on the order of ath5k_hw_setup_tx_queue calls.
