2016-10-20ethernet: use net core MTU range checking in more driversJarod Wilson
Somehow, I missed a healthy number of ethernet drivers in the last pass. Most of these drivers either were in need of an updated max_mtu to make jumbo frames possible to enable again. In a few cases, also setting a different min_mtu to match previous lower bounds. There are also a few drivers that had no upper bounds checking, so they're getting a brand new ETH_MAX_MTU that is identical to IP_MAX_MTU, but accessible by includes all ethernet and ethernet-like drivers all have already. acenic: - min_mtu = 0, max_mtu = 9000 amazon/ena: - min_mtu = 128, max_mtu = adapter->max_mtu amd/xgbe: - min_mtu = 0, max_mtu = 9000 sb1250: - min_mtu = 0, max_mtu = 1518 cxgb3: - min_mtu = 81, max_mtu = 65535 cxgb4: - min_mtu = 81, max_mtu = 9600 cxgb4vf: - min_mtu = 81, max_mtu = 65535 benet: - min_mtu = 256, max_mtu = 9000 ibmveth: - min_mtu = 68, max_mtu = 65535 ibmvnic: - min_mtu = adapter->min_mtu, max_mtu = adapter->max_mtu - remove now redundant ibmvnic_change_mtu jme: - min_mtu = 1280, max_mtu = 9202 mv643xx_eth: - min_mtu = 64, max_mtu = 9500 mlxsw: - min_mtu = 0, max_mtu = 65535 - Basically bypassing the core checks, and instead relying on dynamic checks in the respective switch drivers' ndo_change_mtu functions ns83820: - min_mtu = 0 - remove redundant ns83820_change_mtu, only checked for mtu > 1500 netxen: - min_mtu = 0, max_mtu = 8000 (P2), max_mtu = 9600 (P3) qlge: - min_mtu = 1500, max_mtu = 9000 - driver only supports setting mtu to 1500 or 9000, so the core check only rules out < 1500 and > 9000, qlge_change_mtu still needs to check that the value is 1500 or 9000 qualcomm/emac: - min_mtu = 46, max_mtu = 9194 xilinx_axienet: - min_mtu = 64, max_mtu = 9000 Fixes: 61e84623ace3 ("net: centralize net_device min/max MTU checking") CC: netdev@vger.kernel.org CC: Jes Sorensen <jes@trained-monkey.org> CC: Netanel Belgazal <netanel@annapurnalabs.com> CC: Tom Lendacky <thomas.lendacky@amd.com> CC: Santosh Raspatur <santosh@chelsio.com> CC: Hariprasad S <hariprasad@chelsio.com> CC: Sathya Perla <sathya.perla@broadcom.com> CC: Ajit Khaparde <ajit.khaparde@broadcom.com> CC: Sriharsha Basavapatna <sriharsha.basavapatna@broadcom.com> CC: Somnath Kotur <somnath.kotur@broadcom.com> CC: Thomas Falcon <tlfalcon@linux.vnet.ibm.com> CC: John Allen <jallen@linux.vnet.ibm.com> CC: Guo-Fu Tseng <cooldavid@cooldavid.org> CC: Sebastian Hesselbarth <sebastian.hesselbarth@gmail.com> CC: Jiri Pirko <jiri@mellanox.com> CC: Ido Schimmel <idosch@mellanox.com> CC: Manish Chopra <manish.chopra@qlogic.com> CC: Sony Chacko <sony.chacko@qlogic.com> CC: Rajesh Borundia <rajesh.borundia@qlogic.com> CC: Timur Tabi <timur@codeaurora.org> CC: Anirudha Sarangi <anirudh@xilinx.com> CC: John Linn <John.Linn@xilinx.com> Signed-off-by: Jarod Wilson <jarod@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2016-10-13net: deprecate eth_change_mtu, remove usageJarod Wilson
With centralized MTU checking, there's nothing productive done by eth_change_mtu that isn't already done in dev_set_mtu, so mark it as deprecated and remove all usage of it in the kernel. All callers have been audited for calls to alloc_etherdev* or ether_setup directly, which means they all have a valid dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu. Now eth_change_mtu prints out a netdev_warn about being deprecated, for the benefit of out-of-tree drivers that might be utilizing it. Of note, dvb_net.c actually had dev->mtu = 4096, while using eth_change_mtu, meaning that if you ever tried changing it's mtu, you couldn't set it above 1500 anymore. It's now getting dev->max_mtu also set to 4096 to remedy that. v2: fix up lantiq_etop, missed breakage due to drive not compiling on x86 CC: netdev@vger.kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jarod Wilson <jarod@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2016-08-19ibmvnic: Handle backing device failover and reinitializationThomas Falcon
An upcoming feature of IBM VNIC protocol is the ability to configure redundant backing devices for a VNIC client. In case of a failure on the current backing device, the driver will receive a signal from the hypervisor indicating that a failover will occur. The driver will then wait for a message from the backing device before establishing a new connection. Signed-off-by: Thomas Falcon <tlfalcon@linux.vnet.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2016-07-09ibmvnic: Fix passive VNIC server login processThomas Falcon
In some cases, if there is no VNIC server available during the driver probe, the driver should wait until it receives an initialization request from the VNIC Server to start the login process. Recent testing has show that this is incorrectly handled in the current driver. The proposed solution handles this initialization request by scheduling a task in the shared workqueue that completes the login process and registers the net device. 2016-07-09ibmvnic: simplify and improve driver probe functionThomas Falcon
This patch creates a function that handles sub-CRQ IRQ creation separately from sub-CRQ initialization. Another function is then needed to release sub-CRQ resources prior to sub-CRQ IRQ creation. These additions allow the driver probe function to be simplified, specifically during the VNIC Server login process. A timeout is also included while waiting for completion of the login process in case the VNIC Server is not available or some other error occurs. 2016-04-09ibmvnic: Enable use of multiple tx/rx scrqsJohn Allen
Enables the use of multiple transmit and receive scrqs allowing the ibmvnic driver to take advantage of multiqueue functionality. To achieve this, the driver must implement the process of negotiating the maximum number of queues allowed by the server. Initially, the driver will attempt to login with the maximum number of tx and rx queues supported by the server. If the server fails to allocate the requested number of scrqs, it will return partial success in the login response. In this case, we must reinitiate the login process from the request capabilities stage and attempt to login requesting fewer scrqs. Allow the VNIC driver to provide descriptors containing L2/L3/L4 headers to firmware. This feature is needed for greater hardware compatibility and enablement of checksum and TCP offloading features. A new function is included for the hypervisor call, H_SEND_SUBCRQ_INDIRECT, allowing a DMA-mapped array of SCRQ descriptor elements to be sent to the VNIC server. These additions will help fully enable checksum offloading as well as other features as they are included later. 2015-12-15net: Rename NETIF_F_ALL_CSUM to NETIF_F_CSUM_MASKTom Herbert
The name NETIF_F_ALL_CSUM is a misnomer. This does not correspond to the set of features for offloading all checksums. This is a mask of the checksum offload related features bits. It is incorrect to set both NETIF_F_HW_CSUM and NETIF_F_IP_CSUM or NETIF_F_IPV6 at the same time for features of a device. This patch: - Changes instances of NETIF_F_ALL_CSUM to NETIF_F_CSUM_MASK (where NETIF_F_ALL_CSUM is being used as a mask). - Changes bonding, sfc/efx, ipvlan, macvlan, vlan, and team drivers to use NEITF_F_HW_CSUM in features list instead of NETIF_F_ALL_CSUM. 2015-09-28net/ibm/emac: bump version numbers for correct work with ethtoolIvan Mikhaylov
The size of the MAC register dump used to be the size specified by the reg property in the device tree. Userland has no good way of finding out that size, and it was not specified consistently for each MAC type, so ethtool would end up printing junk at the end of the register dump if the device tree didn't match the size it assumed. Using the new version numbers indicates unambiguously that the size of the MAC register dump is dependent only on the MAC type. 2015-06-23drivers/net: remove all references to obsolete Ethernet-HOWTOPaul Gortmaker
This howto made sense in the 1990s when users had to manually configure ISA cards with jumpers or vendor utilities, but with the implementation of PCI it became increasingly less and less relevant, to the point where it has been well over a decade since I last updated it. And there is no value in anyone else taking over updating it either. However the references to it continue to spread as boiler plate text from one Kconfig file into the next. We are not doing end users any favours by pointing them at this old document, so lets kill it with fire, once and for all, to hopefully stop any further spread. 2015-04-25ehea: Fix memory hook reference counting crashesMichael Ellerman
The recent commit to only register the EHEA memory hotplug hooks on adapter probe has a few problems. Firstly the reference counting is wrong for multiple adapters, in that the hooks are registered multiple times. Secondly the check in the tear down path is backward. Finally the error path doesn't decrement the count. The multiple registration of the hooks is the biggest problem, as it leads to oopses when the system is rebooted, and/or errors during memory hotplug, eg: $ ./mem-on-off-test.sh -r 2 ... ehea: memory is going offline ehea: LPAR memory changed - re-initializing driver ehea: re-initializing driver complete ehea: memory is going offline ehea: LPAR memory changed - re-initializing driver ehea: opcode=26c ret=fffffffffffffffc arg1=8000000003000003 arg2=0 arg3=700000060000d600 arg4=3fded0000 arg5=200 arg6=0 arg7=0 ehea: register_rpage_mr failed ehea: registering mr failed ehea: register MR failed - driver inoperable! ehea: memory is going offline Fixes: aa183323312d ("ehea: Register memory hotplug, reboot and crash hooks on adapter probe") Signed-off-by: Michael Ellerman <mpe@ellerman.id.au> Signed-off-by: David S. 2015-04-23ibmveth: Fix off-by-one error in ibmveth_change_mtu()David Gibson
AFAIK the PAPR document which defines the virtual device interface used by the ibmveth driver doesn't specify a specific maximum MTU. So, in the ibmveth driver, the maximum allowed MTU is determined by the maximum allocated buffer size of 64k (corresponding to one page in the common case) minus the per-buffer overhead IBMVETH_BUFF_OH (which has value 22 for 14 bytes of ethernet header, plus 8 bytes for an opaque handle). This suggests a maximum allowable MTU of 65514 bytes, but in fact the driver only permits a maximum MTU of 65513. This is because there is a < instead of an <= in ibmveth_change_mtu(), which only permits an MTU which is strictly smaller than the buffer size, rather than allowing the buffer to be completely filled. Conflicts: drivers/net/ethernet/emulex/benet/be_main.c net/core/sysctl_net_core.c net/ipv4/inet_diag.c The be_main.c conflict resolution was really tricky. The conflict hunks generated by GIT were very unhelpful, to say the least. It split functions in half and moved them around, when the real actual conflict only existed solely inside of one function, that being be_map_pci_bars(). So instead, to resolve this, I checked out be_main.c from the top of net-next, then I applied the be_main.c changes from 'net' since the last time I merged. And this worked beautifully. The inet_diag.c and sysctl_net_core.c conflicts were simple overlapping changes, and were easily to resolve. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
