2024-10-11net: enetc: block concurrent XDP transmissions during ring reconfigurationWei Fang
When testing the XDP_REDIRECT function on the LS1028A platform, we found a very reproducible issue that the Tx frames can no longer be sent out even if XDP_REDIRECT is turned off. Similarly, XDP_TX verdicts on received frames can also lead to frames being enqueued in the Tx rings. Because XDP ignores the state set by the netif_tx_wake_queue() API, so introduce the ENETC_TX_DOWN flag to suppress transmission of XDP frames. 2024-10-11net: enetc: remove xdp_drops statistic from enetc_xdp_drop()Wei Fang
The xdp_drops statistic indicates the number of XDP frames dropped in the Rx direction. However, enetc_xdp_drop() is also used in XDP_TX and XDP_REDIRECT actions. If frame loss occurs in these two actions, the frames loss count should not be included in xdp_drops, because there are already xdp_tx_drops and xdp_redirect_failures to count the frame loss of these two actions, so it's better to remove xdp_drops statistic from enetc_xdp_drop() and increase xdp_drops in XDP_DROP action. 2024-10-09net: fec: don't save PTP state if PTP is unsupportedWei Fang
Some platforms (such as i.MX25 and i.MX27) do not support PTP, so on these platforms fec_ptp_init() is not called and the related members in fep are not initialized. However, fec_ptp_save_state() is called unconditionally, which causes the kernel to panic. Therefore, add a condition so that fec_ptp_save_state() is not called if PTP is not supported. 2024-10-09net: dpaa: use __dev_mc_sync in dpaa_set_rx_mode()Jonas Rebmann
The original driver first unregisters then re-registers all multicast addresses in the struct net_device_ops::ndo_set_rx_mode() callback. As the networking stack calls ndo_set_rx_mode() if a single multicast address change occurs, a significant amount of time may be used to first unregister and then re-register unchanged multicast addresses. This leads to performance issues when tracking large numbers of multicast addresses. Replace the unregister and register loop and the hand crafted mc_addr_list list handling with __dev_mc_sync(), to only update entries which have changed. On profiling with an fsl_dpa NIC, this patch presented a speedup of around 40 when successively setting up 2000 multicast groups using setsockopt(), without drawbacks on smaller numbers of multicast groups. 2024-10-01net: fec: Reload PTP registers after link-state changeCsókás, Bence
On link-state change, the controller gets reset, which clears all PTP registers, including PHC time, calibrated clock correction values etc. For correct IEEE 1588 operation we need to restore these after the reset. 2024-09-13net: enetc: Replace ifdef with IS_ENABLEDMartyn Welch
The enetc driver uses ifdefs when checking whether CONFIG_FSL_ENETC_PTP_CLOCK is enabled in a number of places. This works if the driver is built-in but fails if the driver is available as a kernel module. Replace the instances of ifdef with use of the IS_ENABLED macro, that will evaluate as true when this feature is built as a kernel module and follows the kernel's coding style. fs_enet is a quite old but still used Ethernet driver found on some NXP devices. It has support for 10/100 Mbps ethernet, with half and full duplex. Some variants of it can use RMII, while other integrations are MII-only. Add phylink support, thus removing custom fixed-link hanldling. This also allows removing some internal flags such as the use_rmii flag. 2024-09-09net: ethernet: fs_enet: only protect the .restart() call in .adjust_linkMaxime Chevallier
When .adjust_link() gets called, it runs in thread context, with the phydev->lock held. We only need to protect the fep->fecp/fccp/sccp register that are accessed within the .restart() function from concurrent access from the interrupts. These registers are being protected by the fep->lock spinlock, so we can move the spinlock protection around the .restart() call instead of the entire adjust_link() call. By doing so, we can simplify further the .adjust_link() callback and avoid the intermediate helper. In the function dpaa_napi_del(), we execute the netif_napi_del() for each cpu, which is actually a high overhead operation because each call to netif_napi_del() contains a synchronize_net(), i.e. an RCU operation. 2024-08-20dpaa2-switch: Fix error checking in dpaa2_switch_seed_bp()Dan Carpenter
The dpaa2_switch_add_bufs() function returns the number of bufs that it was able to add. It returns BUFS_PER_CMD (7) for complete success or a smaller number if there are not enough pages available. However, the error checking is looking at the total number of bufs instead of the number which were added on this iteration. Thus the error checking only works correctly for the first iteration through the loop and subsequent iterations are always counted as a success. Fix this by checking only the bufs added in the current iteration. 2024-07-15net: Add struct kernel_ethtool_ts_infoKory Maincent
In prevision to add new UAPI for hwtstamp we will be limited to the struct ethtool_ts_info that is currently passed in fixed binary format through the ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO ethtool ioctl. It would be good if new kernel code already started operating on an extensible kernel variant of that structure, similar in concept to struct kernel_hwtstamp_config vs struct hwtstamp_config. Since struct ethtool_ts_info is in include/uapi/linux/ethtool.h, here we introduce the kernel-only structure in include/linux/ethtool.h. The manual copy is then made in the function called by ETHTOOL_GET_TS_INFO. 2024-07-14net: dpaa: no need to make sure all CPUs receive a corresponding Tx queueVladimir Oltean
dpaa_fq_setup() iterates through the &priv->dpaa_fq_list elements allocated by dpaa_alloc_all_fqs(). This includes a call to: if (!dpaa_fq_alloc(dev, 0, dpaa_max_num_txqs(), list, FQ_TYPE_TX)) goto fq_alloc_failed; which gives us dpaa_max_num_txqs() elements of FQ_TYPE_TX type. The code block which we are deleting runs after an earlier iteration through &priv->dpaa_fq_list. So at the end of this iteration (for which there is no early break), egress_cnt will be unconditionally equal to dpaa_max_num_txqs(). In other words, dpaa_alloc_all_fqs() has already allocated TX queues for all possible CPUs and the maximal number of traffic classes, and we've already iterated once through them all. The while() condition is dead code, remove it. The allocation for FQ_TYPE_TX looks as follows: if (!dpaa_fq_alloc(dev, 0, dpaa_max_num_txqs(), list, FQ_TYPE_TX)) goto fq_alloc_failed; Thus, iterating again through FQ_TYPE_TX queues in dpaa_fq_setup() and counting them will never yield an egress_cnt larger than the allocated size, dpaa_max_num_txqs(). The comparison serves no purpose since it is always true; remove it. 2024-07-14net: dpaa: eliminate NR_CPUS dependency in egress_fqs[] and conf_fqs[]Vladimir Oltean
The driver uses the DPAA_TC_TXQ_NUM and DPAA_ETH_TXQ_NUM macros for TX queue handling, and they depend on CONFIG_NR_CPUS. In generic .config files, these can go to very large (8096 CPUs) values for the systems that DPAA1 is integrated in (1-24 CPUs). We allocate a lot of resources that will never be used. Those are: - system memory - QMan FQIDs as managed by qman_alloc_fqid_range(). This is especially painful since currently, when booting with CONFIG_NR_CPUS=8096, a LS1046A-RDB system will only manage to probe 3 of its 6 interfaces. The rest will run out of FQD ("/reserved-memory/qman-fqd" in the device tree) and fail at the qman_create_fq() stage of the probing process. - netdev queues as alloc_etherdev_mq() argument. The high queue indices are simply hidden from the network stack after the call to netif_set_real_num_tx_queues(). With just a tiny bit more effort, we can replace the NR_CPUS compile-time constant with the num_possible_cpus() run-time constant, and dynamically allocate the egress_fqs[] and conf_fqs[] arrays. Even on a system with a high CONFIG_NR_CPUS, num_possible_cpus() will remain equal to the number of available cores on the SoC. 2024-07-14net: dpaa: avoid on-stack arrays of NR_CPUS elementsVladimir Oltean
The dpaa-eth driver is written for PowerPC and Arm SoCs which have 1-24 CPUs. It depends on CONFIG_NR_CPUS having a reasonably small value in Kconfig. Otherwise, there are 2 functions which allocate on-stack arrays of NR_CPUS elements, and these can quickly explode in size, leading to warnings such as: drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/dpaa/dpaa_eth.c:3280:12: warning: stack frame size (16664) exceeds limit (2048) in 'dpaa_eth_probe' [-Wframe-larger-than] The problem is twofold: - Reducing the array size to the boot-time num_possible_cpus() (rather than the compile-time NR_CPUS) creates a variable-length array, which should be avoided in the Linux kernel. - Using NR_CPUS as an array size makes the driver blow up in stack consumption with generic, as opposed to hand-crafted, .config files. A simple solution is to use dynamic allocation for num_possible_cpus() elements (aka a small number determined at runtime).
