2017-07-20media: pvrusb2: fix the retry logicMauro Carvalho Chehab
As reported by this warning: drivers/media/usb/pvrusb2/pvrusb2-encoder.c:263 pvr2_encoder_cmd() warn: continue to end of do { ... } while(0); loop There's an issue at the retry logic there: the current logic is: do { if (need_to_retry) continue; some_code(); } while (0); Well, that won't work, as continue will make it test for zero, and abort the loop. So, change the loop to: while (1) { if (need_to_retry) continue; some_code(); break; }; With seems to be what's actually expected there. 2017-06-07[media] pvrusb2: remove redundant check on cnt > 8Colin Ian King
The 2nd check of cnt > 8 is redundant as cnt is already checked and thresholded to a maximum of 8 a few statements earlier. Remove this redundant 2nd check. 2017-03-03[media] tveeprom: get rid of unused arg on tveeprom_hauppauge_analog()Mauro Carvalho Chehab
tveeprom_hauppauge_analog() used to need the I2C adapter in order to print debug messages. As it now uses pr_foo() facilities since commit 6037b3ca28f4 ("[media] tveeprom: print log messages using pr_foo()"), the first argument of the function is not needed anymore. So, get rid of it. 2017-03-03[media] pvrusb2: reduce stack usage pvr2_eeprom_analyze()Arnd Bergmann
The driver uses a relatively large data structure on the stack, which showed up on my radar as we get a warning with the "latent entropy" GCC plugin: drivers/media/usb/pvrusb2/pvrusb2-eeprom.c:153:1: error: the frame size of 1376 bytes is larger than 1152 bytes [-Werror=frame-larger-than=] The warning is usually hidden as we raise the warning limit to 2048 when the plugin is enabled, but I'd like to lower that again in the future, and making this function smaller helps to do that without build regressions. Further analysis shows that putting an 'i2c_client' structure on the stack is not really supported, as the embedded 'struct device' is not initialized here, and we are only saved by the fact that the function that is called here does not use the pointer at all. 2016-10-21[media] pvrusb2: don't break long linesMauro Carvalho Chehab
Due to the 80-cols restrictions, and latter due to checkpatch warnings, several strings were broken into multiple lines. This is not considered a good practice anymore, as it makes harder to grep for strings at the source code. As we're right now fixing other drivers due to KERN_CONT, we need to be able to identify what printk strings don't end with a "\n". It is a way easier to detect those if we don't break long lines. So, join those continuation lines. The patch was generated via the script below, and manually adjusted if needed. </script> use Text::Tabs; while (<>) { if ($next ne "") { $c=$_; if ($c =~ /^\s+\"(.*)/) { $c2=$1; $next =~ s/\"\n$//; $n = expand($next); $funpos = index($n, '('); $pos = index($c2, '",'); if ($funpos && $pos > 0) { $s1 = substr $c2, 0, $pos + 2; $s2 = ' ' x ($funpos + 1) . substr $c2, $pos + 2; $s2 =~ s/^\s+//; $s2 = ' ' x ($funpos + 1) . $s2 if ($s2 ne ""); print unexpand("$next$s1\n"); print unexpand("$s2\n") if ($s2 ne ""); } else { print "$next$c2\n"; } $next=""; next; } else { print $next; } $next=""; } else { if (m/\"$/) { if (!m/\\n\"$/) { $next=$_; next; } } } print $_; } </script> Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@s-opensource.com>

2016-08-24[media] pvrusb2: Remove deprecated create_singlethread_workqueueBhaktipriya Shridhar
The workqueue "workqueue" is involved in polling the pvrusb2 hardware (pvr2_hdw). It has a single work item(&hdw->workpoll) and hence doesn't require ordering. Also, it is not being used on a memory reclaim path. Hence, the singlethreaded workqueue has been replaced with the use of system_wq. System workqueues have been able to handle high level of concurrency for a long time now and hence it's not required to have a singlethreaded workqueue just to gain concurrency. Unlike a dedicated per-cpu workqueue created with create_singlethread_workqueue(), system_wq allows multiple work items to overlap executions even on the same CPU; however, a per-cpu workqueue doesn't have any CPU locality or global ordering guarantee unless the target CPU is explicitly specified and thus the increase of local concurrency shouldn't make any difference. Work item has been flushed in pvr2_hdw_destroy to ensure that there are no pending tasks while disconnecting the driver. 2015-11-17[media] include/media: move driver interface headers to a separate dirMauro Carvalho Chehab
Let's not mix headers used by the core with those headers that are needed by some driver-specific interface header. 2015-11-17[media] include/media: split I2C headers from V4L2 coreMauro Carvalho Chehab
Currently, include/media is messy, as it contains both the V4L2 core headers and some driver-specific headers on the same place. That makes harder to identify what core headers should be documented and what headers belong to I2C drivers that are included only by bridge/main drivers that would require the functions provided by them. Let's move those i2c specific files to its own subdirectory. The files to move were produced via the following script: mkdir include/media/i2c (cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done) (cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/*/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done) for i in include/media/*.h; do n=`basename $i`; (for j in $(git grep -l $n); do dirname $j; done)|sort|uniq|grep -ve '^.$' > list; num=$(wc -l list|cut -d' ' -f1); if [ $num == 1 ]; then if [ "`grep i2c list`" != "" ]; then git mv $i include/media/i2c; fi; fi; done And the references corrected via this script: MAIN_DIR="media/" PREV_DIR="media/" DIRS="i2c/" echo "Checking affected files" >&2 for i in $DIRS; do for j in $(find include/$MAIN_DIR/$i -type f -name '*.h'); do n=`basename $j` git grep -l $n done done|sort|uniq >files && ( echo "Handling files..." >&2; echo "for i in \$(cat files|grep -v Documentation); do cat \$i | \\"; ( cd include/$MAIN_DIR; for j in $DIRS; do for i in $(ls $j); do echo "perl -ne 's,(include [\\\"\\<])$PREV_DIR($i)([\\\"\\>]),\1$MAIN_DIR$j\2\3,; print \$_' |\\"; done; done; echo "cat > a && mv a \$i; done"; ); echo "Handling documentation..." >&2; echo "for i in MAINTAINERS \$(cat files); do cat \$i | \\"; ( cd include/$MAIN_DIR; for j in $DIRS; do for i in $(ls $j); do echo " perl -ne 's,include/$PREV_DIR($i)\b,include/$MAIN_DIR$j\1,; print \$_' |\\"; done; done; echo "cat > a && mv a \$i; done" ); ) >script && . ./script Merged Sakari Ailus patch that moves smiapp.h to include/media/i2c. It turns out that code is somewhat insane, being if (x) {...} else { if (x) {...} } Edited it to do the only reasonable thing, which is to log the information about the failed call. The most descriptive logging commands set is taken from original code. 2013-03-24[media] v4l2: pass std by value to the write-only s_std ioctlHans Verkuil
This ioctl is defined as IOW, so pass the argument by value instead of by reference. I could have chosen to add const instead, but this is 1) easier to handle in drivers and 2) consistent with the s_std subdev operation.
