2022-08-25drm/vc4: plane: protect device resources after removalDanilo Krummrich
(Hardware) resources which are bound to the driver and device lifecycle must not be accessed after the device and driver are unbound. However, the DRM device isn't freed as long as the last user closed it, hence userspace can still call into the driver. Therefore protect the critical sections which are accessing those resources with drm_dev_enter() and drm_dev_exit(). 2022-08-03drm/gem: rename struct drm_gem_dma_object.{paddr => dma_addr}Danilo Krummrich
The field paddr of struct drm_gem_dma_object holds a DMA address, which might actually be a physical address. However, depending on the platform, it can also be a bus address or a virtual address managed by an IOMMU. Hence, rename the field to dma_addr, which is more applicable. In order to do this renaming the following coccinelle script was used: ``` @@ struct drm_gem_dma_object *gem; @@ - gem->paddr + gem->dma_addr @@ struct drm_gem_dma_object gem; @@ - gem.paddr + gem.dma_addr @exists@ typedef dma_addr_t; symbol paddr; @@ dma_addr_t paddr; <... - paddr + dma_addr ...> @@ symbol paddr; @@ dma_addr_t - paddr + dma_addr ; ``` This patch is compile-time tested with: ``` make ARCH={x86_64,arm,arm64} allyesconfig make ARCH={x86_64,arm,arm64} drivers/gpu/drm` ``` Acked-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Suggested-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Reviewed-by: Laurent Pinchart <laurent.pinchart@ideasonboard.com> Signed-off-by: Danilo Krummrich <dakr@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20220802000405.949236-5-dakr@redhat.com
2022-08-03drm/gem: rename GEM CMA helpers to GEM DMA helpersDanilo Krummrich
Rename "GEM CMA" helpers to "GEM DMA" helpers - considering the hierarchy of APIs (mm/cma -> dma -> gem dma) calling them "GEM DMA" seems to be more applicable. Besides that, commit e57924d4ae80 ("drm/doc: Task to rename CMA helpers") requests to rename the CMA helpers and implies that people seem to be confused about the naming. In order to do this renaming the following script was used: ``` #!/bin/bash DIRS="drivers/gpu include/drm Documentation/gpu" REGEX_SYM_UPPER="[0-9A-Z_\-]" REGEX_SYM_LOWER="[0-9a-z_\-]" REGEX_GREP_UPPER="(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)(GEM)_CMA_(${REGEX_SYM_UPPER}*)" REGEX_GREP_LOWER="(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)(gem)_cma_(${REGEX_SYM_LOWER}*)" REGEX_SED_UPPER="s/${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}/\1\2_DMA_\3/g" REGEX_SED_LOWER="s/${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}/\1\2_dma_\3/g" # Find all upper case 'CMA' symbols and replace them with 'DMA'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_UPPER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_UPPER" $ff done # Find all lower case 'cma' symbols and replace them with 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -REHl "${REGEX_GREP_LOWER}" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "$REGEX_SED_LOWER" $ff done # Replace all occurrences of 'CMA' / 'cma' in comments and # documentation files with 'DMA' / 'dma'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl " cma " $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/ cma / dma /g" $ff sed -i -E "s/ CMA / DMA /g" $ff done # Rename all 'cma_obj's to 'dma_obj'. for ff in $(grep -RiHl "cma_obj" $DIRS) do sed -i -E "s/cma_obj/dma_obj/g" $ff done ``` Only a few more manual modifications were needed, e.g. reverting the following modifications in some DRM Kconfig files - select CMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS + select DMA if HAVE_DMA_CONTIGUOUS as well as manually picking the occurrences of 'CMA'/'cma' in comments and documentation which relate to "GEM CMA", but not "FB CMA". Also drivers/gpu/drm/Makefile was fixed up manually after renaming drm_gem_cma_helper.c to drm_gem_dma_helper.c. Note: even if all coordinates are fully integer. e.g. src:[0,0,1920,1080] dest:[-10,-10,1940,1100] it will still get rejected as drm_atomic_helper_check_plane_state uses drm_rect_clip_scaled which transforms this to fractional src coords Fixes: 21af94cf1a4c ("drm/vc4: Add support for scaling of display planes.") 2022-06-16drm/vc4: plane: Register a different drm_plane_helper_funcs on BCM2711Maxime Ripard

2022-06-16drm/vc4: plane: Prevent async update if we don't have a dlistMaxime Ripard
The vc4 planes are setup in hardware by creating a hardware descriptor in a dedicated RAM. As part of the process to setup a plane in KMS, we thus need to allocate some part of that dedicated RAM to store our descriptor there. The async update path will just reuse the descriptor already allocated for that plane and will modify it directly in RAM to match whatever has been asked for. In order to do that, it will compare the descriptor for the old plane state and the new plane state, will make sure they fit in the same size, and check that only the position or buffer address have changed. 2021-11-04drm/vc4: Leverage the load tracker on the BCM2711Maxime Ripard
The load tracker was initially designed to report and warn about a load too high for the HVS. To do so, it computes for each plane the impact it's going to have on the HVS, and will warn (if it's enabled) if we go over what the hardware can process. While the limits being used are a bit irrelevant to the BCM2711, the algorithm to compute the HVS load will be one component used in order to compute the core clock rate on the BCM2711. Let's remove the hooks to prevent the load tracker to do its computation, but since we don't have the same limits, don't check them against them, and prevent the debugfs file to enable it from being created. The current atomic helpers have either their object state being passed as an argument or the full atomic state. Let's start convert all the remaining helpers to provide a consistent interface, starting with the planes atomic_async_check and atomic_async_update. The function drm_gem_fb_prepare_fb() is a helper for atomic modesetting, but currently located next to framebuffer helpers. Move it to GEM atomic helpers, rename it slightly and adopt the drivers. 2021-02-02drm/vc4: hvs: Fix buffer overflow with the dlist handlingMaxime Ripard
Commit 0a038c1c29a7 ("drm/vc4: Move LBM creation out of vc4_plane_mode_set()") changed the LBM allocation logic from first allocating the LBM memory for the plane to running mode_set, adding a gap in the LBM, and then running the dlist allocation filling that gap. The gap was introduced by incrementing the dlist array index, but was never checking whether or not we were over the array length, leading eventually to memory corruptions if we ever crossed this limit. vc4_dlist_write had that logic though, and was reallocating a larger dlist array when reaching the end of the buffer. Let's share the logic between both functions. 2021-01-25drm/vc4: Correct lbm size and calculationDom Cobley
LBM base address is measured in units of pixels per cycle. That is 4 for 2711 (hvs5) and 2 for 2708. We are wasting 75% of lbm by indexing without the scaling. But we were also using too high a size for the lbm resulting in partial corruption (right hand side) of vertically scaled images, usually at 4K or lower resolutions with more layers. The physical RAM of LBM on 2711 is 8 * 1920 * 16 * 12-bit (pixels are stored 12-bits per component regardless of format). The LBM address indexes work in units of pixels per clock, so for 4 pixels per clock that means we have 32 * 1920 = 60K Fixes: c54619b0bfb3 ("drm/vc4: Add support for the BCM2711 HVS5") Signed-off-by: Dom Cobley <popcornmix@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Maxime Ripard <maxime@cerno.tech> Reviewed-by: Dave Stevenson <dave.stevenson@raspberrypi.com> Tested-By: Lucas Nussbaum <lucas@debian.org> Tested-By: Ryutaroh Matsumoto <ryutaroh@ict.e.titech.ac.jp> Link: https://patchwork.freedesktop.org/patch/msgid/20210121105759.1262699-1-maxime@cerno.tech

Most notably, the display list layout changes a bit, the LBM doesn't have the same size and the formats ordering for some formats is swapped. 2020-06-10drm/vc4: plane: Move additional planes creation to driverMaxime Ripard
So far the plane creation was done when each CRTC was bound, and those planes were only tied to the CRTC that was registering them. This causes two main issues: - The planes in the vc4 hardware are actually not tied to any CRTC, but can be used with every combination - More importantly, so far, we allocate 10 planes per CRTC, with 3 CRTCs. However, the next generation of hardware will have 5 CRTCs, putting us well above the maximum of 32 planes currently allowed by DRM. This patch is the first one in a series of patches that will take down both of these issues so that we can support the next generation of hardware while keeping a good amount of planes. We start by changing the way the planes are registered to first registering the primary planes for each CRTC in the CRTC bind function as we used to, but moving the overlay and cursor creation to the main driver bind function, after all the CRTCs have been bound, and make the planes associated to all CRTCs. This will slightly change the ID order of the planes, since the primary planes of all CRTCs will be first, and then a pattern of 8 overlays, 1 cursor plane for each CRTC. This shouldn't cause any trouble since the ordering between the planes is preserved though. 2020-06-10drm/vc4: plane: Move planes creation to its own functionMaxime Ripard
The planes so far were created as part of the CRTC binding code with each planes created associated only to one CRTC. However, the hardware in the vc4 doesn't really have such constraint and can be used with any CRTC. In order to rework this, let's first move the overlay and cursor planes creation to a function of its own.
