2016-12-22drm/i915: Disable L2 cache clock gating on 830 when using the overlayVille Syrjälä
BSpec says: "Overlay Clock Gating Must be Disabled: Overlay & L2 Cache clock gating must be disabled in order to prevent device hangs when turning off overlay.SW must turn off Ovrunit clock gating (6200h) and L2 Cache clock gating (C8h)." We only turned off the overlay clock gating (due to lack of docs I presume). After a bit of experimentation it looks like the the magic C8h register lives in the PCI config space of device 0, and the magic bit appears to be bit 2. Or at the very least this eliminates the GPU death after MI_OVERLAY_OFF. L2 clock gating seems to save ~80mW, so let's keep it on unless we need to actually use the overlay. Also let's move the OVRUNIT clock gating to the same place since we can, and 845 supposedly doesn't need it. 2016-12-22drm/i915: Fix the overlay frontbuffer trackingVille Syrjälä
Do the overlay frontbuffer tracking properly so that it matches the state of the overlay on/off/continue requests. One slight problem is that intel_frontbuffer_flip_complete() may get delayed by an arbitrarily liong time due to the fact that the overlay code likes to bail out when a signal occurs. So the flip may not get completed until the ioctl is restarted. But fixing that would require bigger surgery, so I decided to ignore it for now. 2016-10-14drm/i915: Allocate intel_engine_cs structure only for the enabled enginesAkash Goel
With the possibility of addition of many more number of rings in future, the drm_i915_private structure could bloat as an array, of type intel_engine_cs, is embedded inside it. struct intel_engine_cs engine[I915_NUM_ENGINES]; Though this is still fine as generally there is only a single instance of drm_i915_private structure used, but not all of the possible rings would be enabled or active on most of the platforms. Some memory can be saved by allocating intel_engine_cs structure only for the enabled/active engines. Currently the engine/ring ID is kept static and dev_priv->engine[] is simply indexed using the enums defined in intel_engine_id. To save memory and continue using the static engine/ring IDs, 'engine' is defined as an array of pointers. struct intel_engine_cs *engine[I915_NUM_ENGINES]; dev_priv->engine[engine_ID] will be NULL for disabled engine instances. There is a text size reduction of 928 bytes, from 1028200 to 1027272, for i915.o file (but for i915.ko file text size remain same as 1193131 bytes). v2: - Remove the engine iterator field added in drm_i915_private structure, instead pass a local iterator variable to the for_each_engine** macros. 2016-10-12drm/i915: Allow disabling error captureChris Wilson
We currently capture the GPU state after we detect a hang. This is vital for us to both triage and debug hangs in the wild (post-mortem debugging). However, it comes at the cost of running some potentially dangerous code (since it has to make very few assumption about the state of the driver) that is quite resource intensive. This patch introduces both a method to disable error capture at runtime (for users who hit bugs at runtime and need a workaround) and to disable error capture at compiletime (for realtime users who want to minimise any possible latency, and never require error capture, saving ~30k of code). The cost is that we now have to be wary of (and test!) a kconfig flag and a module parameter. The effect of the module parameter is easy to verify through code inspection and runtime testing, but a kconfig flag needs regular compile checking. 2016-07-21drm/i915: use i915_gem_object_put_unlocked() after releasing mutexDave Gordon
The exit path in intel_overlay_put_image_ioctl() first unlocks the struct_mutex, then drops its reference to 'new_bo' by calling i915_gem_object_put(). 2016-04-14drm/i915: Late request cancellations are harmfulChris Wilson
Conceptually, each request is a record of a hardware transaction - we build up a list of pending commands and then either commit them to hardware, or cancel them. However, whilst building up the list of pending commands, we may modify state outside of the request and make references to the pending request. If we do so and then cancel that request, external objects then point to the deleted request leading to both graphical and memory corruption. The easiest example is to consider object/VMA tracking. When we mark an object as active in a request, we store a pointer to this, the most recent request, in the object. Then we want to free that object, we wait for the most recent request to be idle before proceeding (otherwise the hardware will write to pages now owned by the system, or we will attempt to read from those pages before the hardware is finished writing). If the request was cancelled instead, that wait completes immediately. As a result, all requests must be committed and not cancelled if the external state is unknown. All that remains of i915_gem_request_cancel() users are just a couple of extremely unlikely allocation failures, so remove the API entirely. A consequence of committing all incomplete requests is that we generate excess breadcrumbs and fill the ring much more often with dummy work. We have completely undone the outstanding_last_seqno optimisation.
