2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Check the PLL type used by an enabled TC portImre Deak
The current way to determine during HW state sanitization if a PHY is connected in the expected way doesn't work in all cases. The check for this considers only the PHY ready/owned state and the initial TC mode which was determined earlier by the TC port HW readout - using the sink's HPD and the same PHY ready/owned states. For instance for an enabled DP-alt/TBT port without the PHY ready/owned flags set the initial mode will be TBT, and this will be regarded as a valid PHY state. However it's possible that the port is actually enabled in DP-alt mode, but for some reason the PHY ownership was not acquired. Make sure the driver can detect invalid PHY states as in the above example by checking the PHY ready/owned state wrt. the PLL type used. This should be the TBT PLL if the PHY is not owned and the MG (non-TBT) PLL if the PHY is owned. v2: Rebased on change passing crtc_state in the previous patch. 2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Fix initial TC mode on disabled legacy portsImre Deak
Atm, a TC port's initial mode will be read out as TBT mode in any case the PHY ownership is not held. This isn't correct for legacy ports which should be used only in legacy mode. Fix the above initial mode to be disconnected mode for a legacy port and TBT mode for DP-alt/TBT ports. Determine the port type by checking first the HPD state and then the legacy VBT flag (so the HPD state can correct a bogus VBT flag). If a sink is connected on a disabled port the PHY will get also connected (switching it to legacy mode on a legacy port). Also connect the PHY on a legacy port if it's enabled but BIOS incorrectly left it in the disconnected state for some reason. 2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Fix TC mode for a legacy port if the PHY is not readyImre Deak
A legacy TC port can't be switched to TBT mode, even if the PHY initialization wasn't ready yet for some reason, so prevent this. This shouldn't normally happen as the driver waits for the IOM/TCSS PHY initialization during driver loading and system resume. 2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Fix target TC mode for a disconnected legacy portImre Deak
Atm, the target TC mode - which the PHY should be switched to at any point it's used - is TBT in case there is no sink connected. However legacy ports are only used in the legacy mode regardless of the sink connected state. Fix the mode returned by intel_tc_port_get_target_mode() accordingly. Despite of the above issue, the PHY got disconnected as expected in response to a sink disconnect event, causing only a redundant PHY disconnect->reconnect sequence whenever the port was used. 2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Wait for IOM/FW PHY initialization of legacy TC portsImre Deak
During boot-up/system resume, the TC PHY on legacy ports will be initialized by the IOM/TCSS firmware regardless of a sink being connected or not (as opposed to DP-alt/TBT ports, which the FW only inits once a sink is connected). Wait for the above initialization to complete during HW readout, so that connecting the PHY later will already see the expected PHY ready state. 2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Fix system resume MST mode restore for DP-alt sinksImre Deak
At least restoring the MST topology during system resume needs to use AUX before the display HW readout->sanitization sequence is complete, but on TC ports the PHY may be in the wrong mode for this, resulting in the AUX transfers to fail. The initial TC port mode is kept fixed as BIOS left it for the above HW readout sequence (to prevent changing the mode on an enabled port). If the port is disabled this initial mode is TBT - as in any case the PHY ownership is not held - even if a DP-alt sink is connected. Thus, the AUX transfers during this time will use TBT mode instead of the expected DP-alt mode and so time out. Fix the above by connecting the PHY during port initialization if the port is disabled, which will switch to the expected mode (DP-alt in the above case). As the encoder/pipe HW state isn't read-out yet at this point, check if the port is enabled based on the DDI_BUF enabled flag. Save the read-out initial mode, so intel_tc_port_sanitize_mode() can check this wrt. the read-out encoder HW state. 2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Fix TC port link ref init for DP MST during HW readoutImre Deak
An enabled TC MST port holds one TC port link reference, regardless of the number of enabled streams on it, but the TC port HW readout takes one reference for each active MST stream. 2023-03-22drm/i915/tc: Abort DP AUX transfer on a disconnected TC portImre Deak
On TC ports the 4ms AUX timeout combined with the 5 * 32 retry attempts during DPCD accesses adds a 640ms delay to each access if the sink is disconnected. This in turn slows down a modeset during which the sink is disconnected (for instance a disabling modeset). Prevent the above delay by aborting AUX transfers on a TC port with a disconnected sink. The DP 1.4a link CTS (4.2.1.5 Source Device Inactive HPD / Inactive AUX Test") also requires not to initiate AUX transfers on disconnected DP ports in general, however this patch doesn't change the behavior on non-TC ports, leaving that for a follow-up. 2022-09-27drm/i915: Fix TypeC mode initialization during system resumeImre Deak
During system resume DP MST requires AUX to be working already before the HW state readout of the given encoder. Since AUX requires the encoder/PHY TypeC mode to be initialized, which atm only happens during HW state readout, these AUX transfers can change the TypeC mode incorrectly (disconnecting the PHY for an enabled encoder) and trigger the state check WARNs in intel_tc_port_sanitize(). Fix this by initializing the TypeC mode earlier both during driver loading and system resume and making sure that the mode can't change until the encoder's state is read out. 2022-04-20drm/i915: Sanitize the port -> DDI/AUX power domain mapping for each platformImre Deak
Atm the port -> DDI and AUX power domain mapping is specified by relying on the aliasing of the platform specific intel_display_power_domain enum values. For instance D12+ platforms refer to the 'D' port and power domain instances, which doesn't match the bspec terminology, on these platforms the corresponding port is TC1. To make it clear what port/domain the code refers to add a mapping between them which matches the bspec terms on different display versions. 2022-02-18drm/i915: Disconnect PHYs left connected by BIOS on disabled portsImre Deak
BIOS may leave a TypeC PHY in a connected state even though the corresponding port is disabled. This will prevent any hotplug events from being signalled (after the monitor deasserts and then reasserts its HPD) until the PHY is disconnected and so the driver will not detect a connected sink. Rebooting with the PHY in the connected state also results in a system hang. Fix the above by disconnecting TypeC PHYs on disabled ports. Before commit 64851a32c463e5 the PHY connected state was read out even for disabled ports and later the PHY got disconnected as a side effect of a tc_port_lock/unlock() sequence (during connector probing), hence recovering the port's hotplug functionality. 2022-02-02drm/i915: Only include i915_reg.h from .c filesMatt Roper
Several of our i915 header files, have been including i915_reg.h. This means that any change to i915_reg.h will trigger a full rebuild of pretty much every file of the driver, even those that don't have any kind of register access. Let's delete the i915_reg.h include from all headers and add an explicit include from the .c files that truly need the register definitions; those that need a definition of i915_reg_t for a function definition can get it from i915_reg_defs.h instead. We also remove two non-register #define's (VLV_DISPLAY_BASE and GEN12_SFC_DONE_MAX) into i915_reg_defs.h to allow us to drop the i915_reg.h include from a couple of headers. There's probably a lot more header dependency optimization possible, but the changes here roughly cut the number of files compiled after 'touch i915_reg.h' in half --- a good first step. 2021-09-29drm/i915/tc: Fix system hang on ADL-P during TypeC PHY disconnectImre Deak
The PHY ownership release->AUX PW disable steps during a modeset disable->PHY disconnect sequence can hang the system if the PHY disconnect happens after disabling the PHY's PLL. The spec doesn't require a specific order for these two steps, so this issue is still being root caused by HW/FW teams. Until that is found, let's make sure the disconnect happens before the PLL is disabled, and do this on all platforms for consistency. v2: Add a TODO comment to remove the w/a once the issue is root caused/fixed. 2021-09-29drm/i915/tc: Fix TypeC PHY connect/disconnect logic on ADL-PImre Deak
So far TC-cold was blocked only for the duration of TypeC mode resets. The DP-alt and legacy modes require TC-cold to be blocked also whenever the port is in use (AUX transfers, enable modeset), and this was ensured by the held PHY ownership flag. On ADL-P this doesn't work, since the PHY ownership flag is in a register backed by the PW#2 power well. Whenever this power well is disabled the ownership flag is cleared by the HW under the driver. The only way to cleanly release and re-acquire the PHY ownership flag and also allow for power saving (by disabling the display power wells and reaching DC5/6 states) is to hold the TC-cold blocking power domains while the PHY is connected and disconnect/reconnect the PHY on-demand around AUX transfers and modeset enable/disables. Let's do that, disconnecting a PHY with a 1 sec delay after it becomes idle. For consistency do this on all platforms and TypeC modes. v2: Add tc_mode!=disconnected and phy_is_owned asserts to __intel_tc_port_lock(). 2021-09-29drm/i915/tc: Avoid using legacy AUX PW in TBT modeImre Deak
For the ADL-P TBT mode the spec doesn't require blocking TC-cold by using the legacy AUX power domain. To avoid the timeouts that this would cause during PHY disconnect/reconnect sequences (which will be more frequent after a follow-up change) use the TC_COLD_OFF power domain in TBT mode on all platforms. On TGL this power domain blocks TC-cold via a PUNIT command, while on other platforms the domain just takes a runtime PM reference. If the HPD live status indicates that the port mode needs to be reset - for instance after switching from TBT to a DP-alt sink - still take the AUX domain, since the IOM firmware handshake requires this. v2: Rebased on v2 of the previous patch. 2021-04-14drm/i915/display: rename display version macrosLucas De Marchi
While converting the rest of the driver to use GRAPHICS_VER() and MEDIA_VER(), following what was done for display, some discussions went back on what we did for display: 1) Why is the == comparison special that deserves a separate macro instead of just getting the version and comparing directly like is done for >, >=, <=? 2) IS_DISPLAY_RANGE() is weird in that it omits the "_VER" for brevity. If we remove the current users of IS_DISPLAY_VER(), we could actually repurpose it for a range check With (1) there could be an advantage if we used gen_mask since multiple conditionals be combined by the compiler in a single and instruction and check the result. However a) INTEL_GEN() doesn't use the mask since it would make the code bigger everywhere else and b) in the cases it made sense, it also made sense to convert to the _RANGE() variant. So here we repurpose IS_DISPLAY_VER() to work with a [ from, to ] range like was the IS_DISPLAY_RANGE() and convert the current IS_DISPLAY_VER() users to use == and != operators.
