The fence lock currently protects two distinct things. It protects the fence IDR from concurrent inserts and removes and also keeps drm_sched_job_arm and drm_sched_entity_push_job in one atomic section to guarantee the fence seqno monotonicity. 2021-12-23drm/etnaviv: consider completed fence seqno in hang checkLucas Stach
Some GPU heavy test programs manage to trigger the hangcheck quite often. If there are no other GPU users in the system and the test program exhibits a very regular structure in the commandstreams that are being submitted, we can end up with two distinct submits managing to trigger the hangcheck with the FE in a very similar address range. This leads the hangcheck to believe that the GPU is stuck, while in reality the GPU is already busy working on a different job. To avoid those spurious GPU resets, also remember and consider the last completed fence seqno in the hang check. 2021-08-30drm/sched: Split drm_sched_job_initDaniel Vetter
This is a very confusingly named function, because not just does it init an object, it arms it and provides a point of no return for pushing a job into the scheduler. It would be nice if that's a bit clearer in the interface. But the real reason is that I want to push the dependency tracking helpers into the scheduler code, and that means drm_sched_job_init must be called a lot earlier, without arming the job. v2: - don't change .gitignore (Steven) - don't forget v3d (Emma) v3: Emma noticed that I leak the memory allocated in drm_sched_job_init if we bail out before the point of no return in subsequent driver patches. To be able to fix this change drm_sched_job_cleanup() so it can handle being called both before and after drm_sched_job_arm(). Also improve the kerneldoc for this. v4: - Fix the drm_sched_job_cleanup logic, I inverted the booleans, as usual (Melissa) - Christian pointed out that drm_sched_entity_select_rq() also needs to be moved into drm_sched_job_arm, which made me realize that the job->id definitely needs to be moved too. Shuffle things to fit between job_init and job_arm. v5: Reshuffle the split between init/arm once more, amdgpu abuses drm_sched.ready to signal gpu reset failures. Also document this somewhat. (Christian) v6: Rebase on top of the msm drm/sched support. Note that the drm_sched_job_init() call is completely misplaced, and hence also the split-out drm_sched_entity_push_job(). 2021-07-01drm/sched: Allow using a dedicated workqueue for the timeout/fault tdrBoris Brezillon
Mali Midgard/Bifrost GPUs have 3 hardware queues but only a global GPU reset. This leads to extra complexity when we need to synchronize timeout works with the reset work. One solution to address that is to have an ordered workqueue at the driver level that will be used by the different schedulers to queue their timeout work. This patch does not change current behaviour. The driver's job timeout handler now returns status indicating back to the DRM layer whether the device (GPU) is no longer available, such as after it's been unplugged, or whether all is normal, i.e. current behaviour. All drivers which make use of the drm_sched_backend_ops' .timedout_job() callback have been accordingly renamed and return the would've-been default value of DRM_GPU_SCHED_STAT_NOMINAL to restart the task's timeout timer--this is the old behaviour, and is preserved by this patch. v2: Use enum as the status of a driver's job timeout callback method. v3: Return scheduler/device information, rather than task information. 2020-08-24drm/etnaviv: always start/stop scheduler in timeout processingLucas Stach
The drm scheduler currently expects that the stop/start sequence is always executed in the timeout handling, as the job at the head of the hardware execution list is always removed from the ring mirror before the driver function is called and only inserted back into the list when starting the scheduler. This adds some unnecessary overhead if the timeout handler determines that the GPU is still executing jobs normally and just wished to extend the timeout, but a better solution requires a major rearchitecture of the scheduler, which is not applicable as a fix. The documentation of drm_sched_job_init and drm_sched_entity_push_job has been clarified. Both functions should be called under a shared lock, to avoid jobs getting pushed into the scheduler queue in a different order than their sched_fence seqnos, which will confuse checks that are looking at the seqnos to infer information about completion order. 2018-07-05drm/etnaviv: bring back progress check in job timeout handlerLucas Stach
When the hangcheck handler was replaced by the DRM scheduler timeout handling we dropped the forward progress check, as this might allow clients to hog the GPU for a long time with a big job. It turns out that even reasonably well behaved clients like the Armada Xorg driver occasionally trip over the 500ms timeout. Bring back the forward progress check to get rid of the userspace regression. We would still like to fix userspace to submit smaller batches if possible, but that is for another day. The current limit of 2 leads to some GPU idle times, as the usual IRQ latency leads to up to 3 jobs getting signaled at once with some standard workloads. 2018-02-12drm/etnaviv: replace hangcheck with scheduler timeoutLucas Stach
This replaces the etnaviv internal hangcheck logic with the job timeout handling provided by the DRM scheduler. This simplifies the driver further and allows to replay jobs after a GPU reset, so only minimal state is lost. This introduces a user-visible change in that we don't allow jobs to run indefinitely as long as they make progress anymore, as this introduces quality of service issues when multiple processes are using the GPU. This hooks in the DRM GPU scheduler. No improvement yet, as all the dependency handling is still done in etnaviv_gem_submit. This just replaces the actual GPU submit by passing through the scheduler.
